Fantastisch verblijf in Langwies

Beautiful chalet in small hamlet outside Arosa.

The chalet is equipped to a very high standard with a beautiful kitchen, large living space upstairs and magnificent views. Originally we invited ten as there are ten bed places but were very glad we ended up with only seven as the two double beds are only 4’ wide and not big enough for the average couple. We therefore used the two double beds as singles.

A lovely week in the mountains

I stayed in the chalet for a week in July with 11 friends. We had a lovely time! The manager met us at the train station and brought our luggage to the house. The house is well-equipped with plenty of dishes and utensils for a week of cooking. We thoroughly enjoyed the view from the balcony upstairs, and ate our breakfast there usually. There are many opportunities for hikes in the mountains, as well as a short train ride to the town of Arosa. In Arosa there is a gondola to a restaurant and a panoramic view of the alps. It is also a short ride to Chur, which has many cultural opportunities. We had a delightful dinner in the next town, Litziruti. Some members of our group took short walks along the river, and others of us walked for hours in the mountains. We found that there was more to do than we had time for. We would happily return for another vacation!

Great stay in a very comfortable chalet!

We stayed at the Chalet im Wieselti with our extended family (10 people in total) and had a great week. The chalet was very comfortable and could easily accommodate us all. The amenities are great and it really felt like a home away from home. Location was excellent for us, close enough to Arosa for skiing but also great hiking possibilities from the doorstep. The owners and caretaker were very helpful and friendly and we will definitely be back!

Great Scenery, Noisy Location

The view from the front windows of this chalet, down into the valley towards Chur and up the valley toward Litziruti and Arosa, are wonderful. However, the chalet is located just a few metres above the main road between Chur and Arosa, which means there is almost non-stop traffic noise from just before 0600 until between 2000 and 2100. This traffic includes trucks, buses, cars, motorcycles, and many are being operated by people who believe they are race car/bike drivers. Driving between Langwies and Chur is a challenge unless you are very used to mountain driving and the trip even takes some courage for the passenger. The chalet has well-equipped kitchens, with all the required cooking and preparation tools. There is HD satellite service but the TVs are old-fashioned and do not transmit the better quality picture to the viewer. The bedrooms are very small, with very little space around the beds to get in or out of bed without bumping into a wall. There was also a very limited provision of linen with only enough provided for each occupant, rather than enough for linen changes, one bath towel, one hand towel, one facecloth per person, and sheet and duvet/pillow covers for each bed which was to be occupied (and we were there for two weeks so did expect at least the offer of clean towels). The caretakers, the Ashwandens, were very friendly and convenient as they live next door. The village of Langwies was very friendly and has a good shop, the Dorfladen, and a good pub/restaurant, the Edelweiss Gasthaus. The train to and from Chur is an excellent way to travel down into the valley and the timings are extremely reliable. Hiking into the mountains was a real treat, especially with the prospect of good food and drink along the way, such as was available from the Pirigen and Heimeli. Days spent walking were terrific with fresh air and lovely vistas.

Comfort, a great location and an unbeatable view!

Great chalet, well equipped and spacious enough for eight adults to cook, eat, drink and relax together! There was even enough room for occasional extra dinner guests. Split across two floors, which could each be self-contained, the layout was flexible and suited the needs of our two families both with university-aged children - in other words it had TVs, Wi-fi etc. Great location in terms of walking, cycling with good access to Arosa, Chur and intervening villages, by car or train. The weather was fantastic and we enjoyed a variety of local events including an Alpfest in Peist and the traditional 1 August festivities. If you like walking, you'll be spoiled for choice - we particularly enjoyed the trek to the Gruner See (take your swimming togs), followed by food at the Berggasthaus Strassberg, and the walk to the Restaurant Heimeli (more good food) on the way to the Strela Pass. The cable car up the Wiesshorn and then the gondola down from the Hornli was a fun day. The train is a great resource for weary walkers - runs like clockwork and will even take your bike. Langwies is up a valley and in the mountains, so there is the trip down to Chur before you can visit other places, but we spent a day enjoying historic Lucerne and one day we nipped over the border into Lichtenstein and Austria, Some of our party were returning to Langwies after 40 years, others had never been to Switzerland but we all agreed it was a truly memorable holiday! We were very lucky with the weather - only one wet day and some spectacular evening storms. The location and local amenities were excellent, the caretaker and people generally were friendly and the chalet well-maintained - has much more to offer than a standard 'holiday let'. I'd happily recommend Chalet im Wieselti for a unique break and would love to revisit in winter.

A magical place in the Swiss Alps

My husband and I had a most enjoyable and memorable stay in the upper appartment of Chalet Im Wieselti in Langwies. Arriving after dark, we woke the next day to the tinkling of cow and sheep bells in the surrounding fields/meadows, the whistle of the train as it neared the famous Langwies viaduct and breathtaking and uninterrupted panoramic views (from all the main living areas of the chalet) of snow-capped mountain peaks, verdant pinewoods, colourful wildflower meadows and the pretty little alpine village of Langwies. We had hot and sunny weather throughout our entire stay and enjoyed evenings relaxing on the beautiful balcony after a days hiking. The chalet was spotlessly clean, the lounge and dining areas were particularly spacious and the kitchen was extremely well equipped. We also had access to the downstairs laundry facilities. The caretaker, who lives next door, was very welcoming and available to assist with anything. The owners were also most helpful in providing information and advice on the chalet and the surrounding area and responding promptly to emails. The location is fantastic - quiet, peaceful and rural - it felt like we were stepping back in time. We rarely took the car out as there were so many scenic and interesting walks from the chalet itself. One of the unexpected highlights of our walks were the friendly family-run mountain restaurants serving excellent food with sun terraces that had magnificent views. The beautiful resort of Arosa (which we also found to be quiet and unspoilt) was a short drive away (or we could have taken the train) and was perfect for shopping, walking and cable car rides. We would highly recommend both this property and location to others. Infact, we enjoyed it so much that we are already planning to return to this magical place in the Swiss Alps.

Swiss Vacation

Beautiful, clean chalet with a beautiful view. Unfortunately we had a week of wet, rainy, snowy weather but the coziness of the chalet was definitely a plus. We enjoyed the fireplace and the rest of the living space. Kitchen was awesome, living space was generous, master bedroom was very tight and the only suggestion is to bring bath towels. We only had 4 simple towels for 4 adults for one week. The garage was great and the check in/out with the neighbor was easy. Access to the owners via email was always easy and met with prompt responses. Washer Dryer in the unit was helpful. I would definitely recommend this property to others.

Great place to relax all year round

The chalet is large, warm, comfortable, extremely well equipped and beautifully decorated and maintained. We rented the whole building (upper and lower), which was perfect for 8 adults and would have also been comfortable for 10. The two kitchens have everything you could possibly require - we even baked a birthday cake. Bedrooms are well laid out with comfortable beds and the bathrooms are both immaculately clean. It would also be great for a family or two families with kids. The location is great for a bit of peace and quiet, whilst still easily accessible for Arosa by car. It took less than 2 hours to drive from Zurich, and those who arrived by rail also found it convenient for them, although it's a very steep slog uphill from the station to the chalet so we picked them up in the car. We stayed with a group of friends for a rainy long weekend in May, and even in the bad weather we still had a great time. We managed to get out and enjoy hiking in the beautiful surroundings, doing the walk from Arosa back to the chalet along the valley. I can imagine that in summer it must be stunning, and that in winter, with a car, it would be perfect for skiing from the several nearby lifts. Our one (small) disappointment was that mid May is the off season between winter and summer, so almost everything in Arosa was closed. We could still shop for groceries, but our advice to anyone else staying at that time is plan around this especially for eating out.

Excellent holiday stay

We had a great week. Our host was extremely helpful, and even arranged for transport to a restaurant in the mountains for our anniversary. The Chalet has the best view in the area by far. We found the house very comfortable and well stocked for cooking, which we did daily.

Very nice!

We rented the whole chalet and really enjoyed our stay. As mentioned in another review, the walk to/from the station is demanding, so we would recommend bringing a car. We would recommend to rent the whole chalet or only the upper floor. The lower floor is OK for sleeping, but lacks by far the athmosphere of the upper floor. It is rather dark and the rooms are quite small. However, the upper floor is just as cosy as shown in the pictures! We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it. The scenery is just amazing and Arosa the perfect resort for a one-week stay!

ALWAYS WONDERFUL HOLIDAYS!!

Our stay at the Wieselti Chalet (upper appartment) in January 2010 has exceeded our expectations. So, that is why we rented it again in January 2012 and we want to rent it again and again! Newxt time maybe on summer. We like this place, view and Arosa ski resort. We enjoyed the hours in front of the fireplace. The kitchen is really well-equipped. Cooking was easy and enjoying! Also I would like to recommend for all buy fresh milk in the farm which is located by the road on the way to the railway station. We want to thank owners of the chalet for attention and care! Especially for bottle of champagne and postcard with warm words and greetings! Best regards, Konstantin and friends Russia, Moscow.

Holiday home Wieselti

We stayed at the place with 9 people, used all sleeping rooms but used mainly the upper rooms including the kitchen. The upper appartment is spacious and offers plenty of space and we felt comfortable. The kitchen offers everything you need for cooking including a coffee machine. The way to the train station was a little demanding because of all the snow. We drove to Langwies by car and changed there to the train to Arosa. Next to the ski lift we could store our skis and our ski boots.

Ski week Holiday

The whole Chalet (both apartments) is really well appointed with all the equipment you need for self catering. It certainly works well for 2 families, as the children could occupy the lower area with the adults above. The access to the wood pile outside meant we had lovely open fires all week, and access to UK TV channels., and Internet if needed The views from the picture windows and the balcony are excellent when accompanied by Gluehwein. The location is such that a car is almost essential as the walk to the station needed a 200-300mm stretch along the road which is not the safest with children. We chose to drive up to Arosa every day : parking is 8 Chf or alternative is to drive to Langwies station where you can park for free and use the train which is included in the ski pass. Arosa was lovely as usual despite snow being thin the pistes were excellently groomed and in great condition.

Chalet Wieselti Langwies

The perfect spot in the Swiss Alps

We really enjoyed an excellent summer stay at Chalet Im Wieselti, which is about 10km down the valley from the holiday resort town of Arosa. The real drawcard was the variety of walking and hiking, from wandering by the river in the valley to full days up and down mountains. As a family, we found there was plenty to interest both the energetic ones and those looking to "chill out". Two pluses we didn't realise beforehand were the multiple mountain restaurants dotted around (honest, Heidi may really be in the kitchen at "Dorfli"), and how having the Langwies train station only 5 minutes from the chalet allowed much more flexibility in one way hikes. The views along the valley were spectacular from the chalet, with the 'peep' of the hourly trains over the viaduct providing a very restful clock all day. Although Arosa is a a true alpine holiday town, the village of Langwies had a shop and an excellent little cafe-restaurant only 5 minutes walk away. The property has a split upstairs-downstairs configuration meaning it's possible to rent either self-contained half, or both floors for 2 families or so. Definitely aim for the upper floor if you can. The living areas were really great - large with big windows open to the view. The smaller bedrooms are typical in chalets, and the kitchen wasn't exactly large, but both were perfectly functional for a holiday stay. Everything was in good condition as you'd expect in Switzerland, although it looks like the kitchens and living areas have been freshly renovated since our stay judging by the photos. The owners were very pleasant, and helped us with the internet connection and TV channels. We would highly recommend this chalet as an excellent spot for a summer holiday in the Swiss Alps.

Nice & cozy

Our stay at the Wieselti Chalet (upper appartment) in January 2011 has exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed the hours in front of the fireplace in the cozy livingroom wich is lovely set and well furnished. We would especially like to mention the well-equipped kitchen - unusual for a holiday home. Cooking was a pleasure!

Chalet im Wieselti, Langwies

The chalet is perfectly fitted out for 10 guests. We booked the whole chalet for a week and were very very comfortable, there is a lovely log fire in the spacious lounge upstairs which was great. The caretaker lives just next door and is a lovely guy, willing to help with anything. Also, the owners were very helpful with ideas for restaurants, ski hire places and general information. Chalet im Wieselti is a 10 minute walk to the train station, the train runs once an hour to Arosa. We were on the 9.00am train in the morning and on the slopes by 9.45am, we left our skis and boots at Luzi ski hire at a cost of SFR 2.00 per night, very handy and right next to the ski lift. Slopes at Arosa are 'to die for', wide slopes, easy blues and reds and a few blacks. The Swiss ski school at Inner Arosa was perfect for the kids and they loved it. We also had great fun on the sled run at innerarosa! In the village of Langwies there is a little shop, about 15min walk from chalet and she stocks all the essentials, you do however have to order your bread the day before. The mountain restaurant of "Heimeli" (hidden in the Sapun valley by Langwies) was fantastic. We were collected in a ski bob and driven up the 5km sled run to the restaurant - it was a fantastic experience and a must for all who visit. To have a car makes it much easier to get around the area. With little kids you need a car as they may not enjoy all of the walking. I would readily recommend this chalet for the great location (amazing views of the mountains), the size and the price.

We are an Anglo-Swiss family who have fallen in love with Arosa-Lenzerheide and love the village of Langwies. We are delighted when people can share in the discovery of the real authentic Switzerland that the region offers. The local people are warm and friendly, and happy to share their culture and way of living.

Why they chose this property

This property offers "mountain life" experiences rather than "resort life" experiences, and is ideal for two families sharing or 6 or 4 people respectively. The views of the dawn and the setting sun are exceptional, with the famous Langwies Viaduct providing a stunning back drop.

What makes this property unique

In either the summer or the winter, the local food, local people and local culture offer additional "out-of-resort" experiences that you would not normally be aware of if limited to "in-resort" locations. Happy to share these with you, just get in touch.
