Perfect cheaper option on Key West

Many reviews on Vrbo do not accurately depict this Vrbo. Its an upscale hotel that bought and refurbished its next store motel neighbor. The room was clean and newly renovated. The pool area was great and included a poolside bar with TVs. Its a cheaper option due to its distance from downtown, but the hotel offers a 10 min roundtrip shuttle service to downtown. You have to reserve a seat for 5, but the ticket comes with a mix drink from the bar. Ubers are also very accessible. The only issues we experienced were minimal. There are some hidden fees such as a “resort fee”, and parking costs 15 a day. Additionally this side of the island is home to a large population of the roosters, so they do make allot of noise early in the morning. The hotel does provide ear plugs for those that have an issue with the noise. We didn’t have an issue with it and actually didn’t mind the natural wake up. Overall, this was a perfect home base for a long weekend in Key West and I will definitely recommend to anyone in the future. The poor reviews left on this property made us a little nervous going into it but they were all either a stretch or didn’t understand the relationship between Key West and its roosters.

Disappointed

The property is old and although an attempt at remodeling was done it was not done well. Stairwells are rusty, no lift, and the room temperature was off, beds super hard. Also food choices are very limited and they seem to discourage door dash. The employees also seems to have attitudes and were generally not helpful. I ended up leaving early even though it was prepaid - just a bad overall experience. Liked key west though just needed a different hotel.

Stayed on the north side for the first time

We usually stay down in old Key West in a Bed and Breakfast. This was a good value. The 5 shuttle to downtown comes with a coupon for a free drink at the bar, which is a fun touch. The return trip is free.There are two VRBO rooms at this resort as far as I'm aware. The other rooms have nice seating areas outside of their doors. The VRBO rooms do not have space for a seating area You do NOT check in at the Gates hotel. You check in next door at 24 North (the two resorts are connected) There is a coffee pot (Keurig) in the room and a mini refrigerator in the room. There is a Starbucks on site at 24 North. Overall, this was a nice stay. The room itself is super cute and clean

Not the greatest...

Inaccurate web description (did not have a microwave), room smelled like urine, and we were charged us for the bus service which we didn't use! They don't offer breakfast, so we ventured next door to the Hilton. No prices listed, so we grabbed a plate, took half a spoonful of scrambled eggs, a few potatoes and two pieces of bacon...charged us $21 each! I was so disappointed. I will never stay here again.

GATES HOTEL

I must say the hotel is nice. I am very unhappy with the deception in the pricing. I was given a total price for 4 nights which I paid. When I got there they charged me a $200 resort fee and $200 deposit for the room. I never would have booked this room under their terms. I also would like to know why the name of this hotel is kept a secret. It's not on the ad.

The advertisement did not go with the location. It was NOT the perfect beach getaway.

Our room was on the BACK end of the property, where work was being done. Where the ROOSTERS cocadoodle doo from 3am until 7am. I will NEVER EVER book another VENO✌
