Very special

We had a really relaxing and stress free holiday in this beautifully and tastefully converted barn, made even better by the generosity and friendliness of Heather, Rad and Fiona. It was very special indeed, the best self catering place we have ever stayed in, having everything we needed and more. We thoroughly recommend it and are already planning a return trip. Thanks again all.

Exactly as pictured

We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at Blanc that the cottage was exactly as pictured! Fiona, the property manager was there when we arrived and gave us a tour of the cottage and the grounds and answered any questions we had. The area is charming and we enjoyed exploring for the 5 days that we were there. We cannot give Fiona enough high praise for her recommendations and for answering our questions while we were there. Our unit was the one bedroom unit. I would love to come back with friends and rent the larger unit, (Rouge?) with friends one day.

PEACEFUL LUXERY IN THE DORDOGNE COUNTRYSIDE

After many years renting properties in Europe, Blanc is by far the most well-appointed and comfortable home we've come across. Fiona met us as we pulled in the driveway, showed us around the house, and helped us get settled. There was a bowl of fresh fruit and a bottle of wine to welcome us. During the course of the week we heard from Fiona and Heather, the owner, checking in to see if our needs were met. We celebrated a wedding anniversary during our stay, and the day of our anniversary there was fresh bread and croissants outside the door, along with a bottle of Champagne! This region of France is very beautiful and unspoiled; there are so many historically significant sights within a short drive. Some days, however, it was hard to pull ourselves away. The surrounding property of Moulin de Malecoste is as lovely and picturesque as any bucolic French country painting you could find. This was our second trip to the Dordogne, and we hope to return again one day.

Fabulous, Charming, Historical - Highly Recommended Property

My husband and I spent 5 nights in the Moulin de Malecoste Blanc apartment (1 of 3 apartments on the property). Our stay was absolutely fabulous. We were greeted by Fiona, the caretaker, who was wonderful to us. To welcome us, she gifted us with local wine, bread, and cheese. Fiona checked in on us numerous times bringing us supplies we had not had a chance to purchase. She made our stay very easy by - orientlng us to the area, making dinner reservations, and recommending local sites/activities. Heather, the owner, checked in with us multiple times via texts/emails to make sure our needs were met, also providing many suggestions that made our stay even better. This property is something out of a magical fairy tale - lush surroundings, beautiful flowers, historic buildings, wonderful outdoor spaces to relax in, and the lovely sounds of the stream. The apartment was super clean and well-stocked with necessities. Incredibly, it was even better than the photos show. Moulin de Malecoste is located in the delightful area of Lot with ‘a lot’ to see and do. We visited beautiful small villages with fine dining and unique shopping experiences. You can see some of man's earliest art work in nearby prehistoric caves. Activities include canoeing, hiking and cycling. We recommend this property without hesitation and hope to return in the future for a longer stay. Thank you Heather and Fiona for sharing this incredible property with us and helping make our 2023 France vacation an unforgetable adventure. Penny & Rea from Denver Colorado USA

Perfect home away from home.

We spent one week in this beautiful gite "Blanc" and wished it could have been longer. An absolutely stunning barn conversion - a perfect meld of traditional and modern design - we felt so comfortable and at home here. The personal touches were much appreciated - on our arrival there was wine and fresh bread, and the kitchen was well stocked with tea, coffee, milk.. everything you need after a long journey. We were lucky to have the whole place to ourselves, and used the all the various outdoor areas in perfect solitude. The gite is one of three buildings, all part of a beautiful old mill house, Le Moulin. There is a large garden, and "Blanc" has a lovely private patio by the mill pond. It was lovely to listen to the sound of the near-by running stream, soothing both day and night. Le Moulin is in a beautiful spot, surrounded by fields, with several villages within walking distance, if you fancy a stroll to the boulangerie. Quartres Routes has a good sized supermarket for pretty much everything you need.. And the bigger town of Martel with more choice is not far away. Carennac is well worth a visit.. but to be honest pretty much everywhere around here is stunning. Personal recommendations are: * Swimming in the Dordogne river! It's worth exploring to find the perfect spot. Maybe head towards Vayrac or Carennac. * Lascaux II is a bit of a drive away, but totally worth it if you have even the slightest interest in the origins of art and humanity. Check the tour times in advance - entrance is only by guided tour only, and we had to wait a couple of hours. But it was totally worth it. * Sarlat is a beautiful old town worth the 45 minute drive. Wednesdays and Saturdays for the market. * Rocamadour is incredible. All in all, we would definitely recommend this gite to anyone looking for a home away from home. Thank you so much to the owners for providing such a wonderful place to stay!

Absolutely Perfect!

Moulin de Malecote was everything we expected and more. The apartment itself is so elegant and perfectly decorated. Fiona and Heather made it all so easy, between local advise on where to go and what to see and even bringing us a couple of beers as we arrived after the stores closed! The area is magical and well worth seeing. The closest town of Martel had enough restuarants and sightseeing to keep us occupied each evening. We spent our days touring different villages in the area. I highly recommend the area and this lodging made it that much more specials.

Perfect get-away

This was the perfect get-away, very comfortable and very tastefully decorated with all the comforts we needed. Although a little out of the way, there are many interesting and beautiful places to see within a relatively short drive, so well located in this respect. Fiona was very helpful when we arrived and happily showed us around and although Heather was not in France at the time, she also kept in touch to ensure everything was OK. Everything including the Wi Fi worked very well, we even lit the log fire, not that we needed the heat as radiators work well. All in all, a fantastic beautiful property and hopefully we will be back to stay sometime soon.

A really special place

An absolutely beautiful gite, in a small complex. The Blanc apartment is an absolute delight for two. We work hard and so want to have really excellent holidays when we can make them and this absolutely hit all the right notes. Big spaces, excellent equipment and a renovation/ decoration done with taste and flair. The building manager lives off-site, but she is there to ensure you have everything you need on the first evening and a 'welcome pack' of fruit, bread, cheese and wine - as well as to provide a friendly face! We speak fluent French, but she will arrange bookings at restaurants, provide advice and recommendations for the local area and generally act as your 'guardian angel' while you're there. The owners are friendly and you get great communications with them! The other buildings are beautiful - great setting! - there are a couple of other gites on site, but they're well spaced, so we imagine either good for an extended family get together, or fine if you're just renting one of them. Beautiful gardens, fantastic local places to visit, and lots of restaurants in easy driving distance. We'd recommend this place for couples looking for a bit of 'us' time in really comfortable surroundings.

Magnifique gite Blanc !

Bravo !

Wonderful well-appointed, comfortable, well-equipped accommodation with everything one would need for a home away from home holiday & set in beautiful grounds in the French countryside yet near to 7 of France's 'beautiful' villages & other interesting places. Heather & Rad are fantastic hosts; very friendly, welcoming, helpful & knowledgeable about the area. A car is a must to explore the surrounding area. We highly recommend you stay here.

Fabulous

Perfect. I do not use this word lightly - there is nothing that either my husband or I can think of that would make Blanc any better. The photos are spot on. It is beautiful. We stayed there towards the end of seven weeks in France and Moulin de Malecoste was our second last stop. I can truly say it was the best accommodation we had in our entire time in France (and we were pretty happy with everything else we had experienced,) The weather was really wet but we have enjoyed visiting many nearby villages and enjoyed even more returning to Blanc to light the fire and hunker down with a glass of wine. The place is spotless and the quality of the furniture, fittings, linen etc is first rate. All the special touches; cheese, sausage, bread and wine on arrival plus fresh fruit in the bowl and then a special breakfast surprise on the 1st morning made it quality service extraordinaire. Highly recommend.

Paradise on earth!

We have had the most amazing time at Le Moulin, it is a gem in itself and has absolutely everything (and more) you would be looking for. We stayed in Blanc - which had so much space for two people (2 bathrooms, huge living room, patio, kitchen...) and so luxurious with so many adorable attention to details from our hosts Heather and Rad. We felt at home immediately! The atmosphere is so relaxing with the little stream just outside our flat, the nature surrounding us and our hosts even started a fire one evening as the weather was a little cold. AMAZING! The place in itself is 500 years old and full of history but our hosts have turn it into a uber-luxurious flat with all the commodities you would be looking for. The surroundings are incredible as well, the airport is only a 10m drive and all the most amazing towns, such as Rocamadour... are only 30m. If you are a Francophile like we are you could not ask for a better spot. We totally indulged into French wine and food for a week. We very much look forward to heading back again very soon and could not praise or recommend this place enough! Go and experience it for yourself!!! and again a big thank you to our host for such an incredible experience.

Heather & Rad are fun loving South Africans who realized a dream by ourchasing this 17th Century Mill in South West France in 2001 as a second home. They love everyting French and try to spend ss much time as possible there in between running their business in Johannesburg and travelling to different parts of the world for business and pleasure.
The Ancient old Mill is a passion, they work tirelessly upgrading, redecorating and improving. making this a very special home from home.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love for this 17th cent. mill because of its unique architecture and the potential it offered. The beautiful stone it is built from, the surrounding water and established secluded garden surrounded by open fields and woods. We loved this area because it is so green and lush with many interesting things to do and see. Each village is more beautiful than the next with castles, churches, caves, markets and historical sites all within a short drive, cycle or walk. In addition to all this... the 'cuisine' of this region is famous and one can dine out on foie gras, confit de canard and other Quercy delights wherever one goes in the area.

What makes this property unique

We enjoy the peace and tranquility of our property but never feel isolated becasue of the close proximity of the surrounding villages and friendly locals who always welcome us with an inviting wave and smile. The cuisine and gastronomic delights a real attration in the many local restaurants in the surrounding villages. This area is great for hiking and cycling enthusiasts. We enjoy the many historical sights as well as the geographical places of interest like caves, rivers and lakes close to us.
