About this property

Rustic Log Cabin close to Cherry Springs - Stargazing, Hiking, Fishing, & more!

Retreat to our Rustic Cabin, nestled atop a serene 20-acre mountaintop, providing the ideal escape from the daily grind. This enchanting cabin is a testament to exquisite handmade craftsmanship, boasting all-wood logs and reclaimed barnwood floors and ceilings that radiate rustic charm. The living area is anchored by a magnificent stone wood-burning fireplace, perfect for unwinding with a glass of wine.
Surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature, you may catch glimpses of deer grazing nearby or hear the gentle rustle of leaves as birds flit through the trees. Delight in the unique custom Moonlit window, which fills the interior with natural light and frames a stunning night's sky. Begin your mornings with awe-inspiring panoramic vistas and the soothing sounds of nature as you enjoy your coffee on the wrap-around porch.
As night falls, the cabin transforms into a stargazer's paradise. With minimal light pollution, the sky comes alive with a dazzling display of stars, and on clear nights, you might even catch a glimpse of the Milky Way stretching across the heavens. They do call this "God's Country" afterall. The distant call of coyotes adds to the enchanting nighttime ambiance, creating a truly immersive experience in nature's embrace.
Adventure enthusiasts will find plenty to do, with opportunities for snowmobiling, hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, and riding quads on the property and surrounding trails. Stargazers will appreciate the dark skies, with Cherry Springs and nearby state parks like Lyman Run and the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon offering even more exploration.
Access to the cabin requires a 4x4/AWD/SUV or crossover with clearance. Electric heaters on each floor provide the main source of heat, with adjustable controls on each unit. For those comfortable with a wood-burning stove, it adds ambiance, with wood provided at the cabin. Guests are encouraged to bring their own wood as well. Detailed instructions for safe use are available in the binder.
Winter Access Note (Dec. 1 - March 31): Due to winter conditions, access may require an ATV/snowmobile. Rentals are limited to guests who bring their own 4x4 ATVs, side-by-sides, or snowmobiles. Alternatively, guests can use our side-by-side (Gator) at no charge, with a waiver required. The cabin road features 3/4 mile of switchbacks, and snow/ice conditions make it unsafe for trucks and SUVs. Parking is available at the mountain base for trucks and trailers. The Potter County Snowmobile Club is just 1.3 miles away, with local roads designated for ATV/snowmobile use.
Winter in Potter County is a snowmobiler's paradise, with miles of groomed and ungroomed trails accessible from the nearby Potter County Snowmobile Club. Check out the trail map in our photo gallery. This area is widely considered one of the best counties to snowmobile in all of PA.

We look forward to welcoming you to our cabin for a memorable getaway!

Just what we needed.
By far the best cabin we’ve stayed at in Coudersport. If you are looking for peace, tranquility, and a reset. This cabin offers it all. The night skies look close enough to touch and the cabin is well stocked and well thought out We will be booking again in the future! Thanks!

Relaxing getaway in a beautiful, quiet setting
We stayed for the weekend to enjoy the leaves beginning to change and to experience the dark night skies. The cabin was spotless and included many nice decorative touches. The moon-shaped window is fabulous! The amenities are modern- we used the full kitchen to prepare meals easily. The full wraparound porches and the large fire pit were our favorite spots to enjoy outdoors. I highly recommend this home and would definitely return!

It rained almost the whole time we were there but we honestly didn't care because the cabin was so cute and comfortable. The driveway is a trip and a half but worth it. We will definitely stay here again!

Moonlit Cabin is Adorable
The cabin is well-crafted and so homey, especially when the wood-fired stove is burning. We lit the stove as soon as we got there, as it was very cold inside the cabin when we arrived. The outside fire pit was also appreciated, as the weather was warm enough to enjoy some outdoor time. There is an ample supply of wood. The spiral staircase that leads to the bedroom was a little tricky to navigate. We were worried that our elderly dog would take a tumble down the stairs to the basement, so we had to block off the area around the stairs with some chairs. Although we planned this visit to see the stars, unfortunately, it was cloudy while we were there. However, I can understand that this must be a beautiful spot to sit and watch the skies. There are trails around the cabin that we were able to walk, which was nice. If you have a quad, I’m sure it’d be a lot of fun to use them here. The driveway leading to the house has some switchbacks, which we were able to navigate with my husband‘s truck, but it was a little dicey as it was very muddy when we visited. There was also quite a bit of food left in the refrigerator and freezer, which was surprising. Overall, this is a good place to visit and the surrounding area has several beautiful parks. If you’re able to see the skies on a clear night, enjoy!

Magical Little Place
The cabin and town are not large and the staircase could be difficult to handle if you’re unsure of foot. But I cannot recommend Moonlit Cabin enough! It was beautiful, cozy, and well maintained. There are a number of incredible sights to see nearby such as: The Pennsylvania Grand Canyon Cherry Springs: dark sky preserve Allegheny National Forest And many others, and not to mention Niagara Fall being a good day trip away. Everything about the cabin and its hilltop was just charming and felt miles and miles from anything despite town being just a 10 minute drive. My wife and I loved it and hope to return someday!

Amazing view of the stars!
Getting into the town initially made me concerned given how much light activity i saw going on. But once you begin to get super close to the house and drive up the driveway we had an amazing view of the stars and planets. We saw so many stars and while we did go the Cherry Hills state Park, we decided to not drive back to the Park since our view from the property was more than sufficient. We saw about 5 shooting stars. The home itself was amazing. Exactly as described in the pictures and i don't think it was mentioned but the downstairs has a bunch of bunk beds (2 bunk beds, so you could fit 4 adults). We 100% plan to return next year and would recommend to anyone wanting to see the stars. Disclaimer!! The 1st night wasn't that clear (which made me nervous), but the second night at the cabin the sky was SUPER clear and all stars were visible. Also, we comfortably drove our Toyota Highlander up the driveway and our friends were able to drive their Camper van up the driveway as well. I think we had a concern if the driveway would be an issue, but it wasn't to us. Lastly, in total we had 4 adults and 3 children (2 years thru 4 years old). We had zero issue with space.

Location, location, location! Gorgeously quiet! Lovely cabin and well stocked. Some small spotlights on the spiral staircase would be fantastic. Unfortunately, cloudy during our stay, but we thoroughly enjoyed playing Wildlife Bingo and walking the grounds.

Beautiful View / Rough for Seniors
We had a beautiful long weekend at the Moonlight Cabin. We wanted to see the fall colors as well as the stars in the night sky. We travelled to the PA Grand Canyon as well as Cherry Springs State Park for great star gazing! All within an easy drive of this location. Cabin was well appointed for 2 people but not exactly suited for older couples. The spiral staircase is beautiful but not practical. Carrying a suitcase while navigating the stairs is a hazard. Bed was too low and not comfortable. I also was turned off by all of the food left in the refrigerator. The driveway was also hard to see in the later hours - maybe a solar light or reflection can be added? Renters should pay attention to the notes about the driveway switchbacks. The drive is narrow and definitely requires 4-wheel drive in bad weather. Overall it was a pleasant stay but this is not one that we will be renting again in the future.

What an EXCEPTIONAL place!!
My wife and I talked about seeing the stars in Potter County for years. Finally pulled the trigger for our 40th anniversary. Due to weather we saw stars for about 10 minutes. ;-> No matter...Moonlit Cabin was the star! Spotlessly clean, cozy, quiet, well-stocked -- it exceeded our expectations. Our hosts were very kind and the cabin had everything we needed. The area is gorgeous and our day trips to Kinsua Skyway and Pine Creek Gorge were so worth the trip. Want to be a hero? Take your spouse to Moonlit Cabin!

Beautifully built cabin
My boyfriend and I found this cute little cabin for our 1 year anniversary and we adored it! It’s a beautifully built cabin, very well kept and stunning in person. It’s perfectly placed on top of a mountain with an amazing view, light breeze and gorgeous skies at night. I recommend sky gazing with little moonlight for the full effect. We brought along a hammock and it was the best decision for laying under the sky, next to the fire, or afternoon naps while the birds chirp and the breeze blows. Even better our older dog was able to tag along as well to experience the great views and weather. Very much appreciated! Cabin has lots of necessities that were needed, I packed far more than needed as when I arrived those items were already there which was very nice. We had no issues especially with the binder inside letting us in on the history and how to best enjoy ourselves during the stay. I thought it was really cool that the water used was collected rainwater!! Really gave us the full experience as the water smelled like a refreshing rain. I’d recommend to friends and family any day!

Weekend Escape
We loved the cabin! The mountaintop was gorgeous and the cabin was so unique. The natural light spills in from all of the windows and skylights and the beautiful wooden interior makes you feel like you’re part of nature and yet you have the luxury of modern day living. It’s small and cozy and there’s not a lot of room to work in the kitchen but the kitchen is well stocked so we figured it out. We enjoyed hiking in Colton State Park along the rim of the PA Grand Canyon and then spent a rainy afternoon and evening at the cottage. We were blessed with a couple of hours of clear skies and stars before the clouds rolled back in but we spent a peaceful night by the fire pit! We only wish we could have stayed longer.
