It appears that this home was once a private residence that has been converted into several apartments for rent through VRBO. We rented this one because it had washer/dryer. However, it did not dry at all. We had to spent our 1st morning at a laundromat instead of enjoying our vacation. Also, according to posted sign, the garbage disposal was out of order. Despite that, there was stuffed food in to the sink. The sink wouldn’t drain. As the space is in Wash DC & it is July, it is hot/humid. We were not in a position to adjust the thermostat as it was under locked & key & set to 76 degrees. Then, there was the shower. While the shower was perfectly acceptable, the sign on the wall told us that the water would run cold in 5 minutes. Unwilling to test it out, my family of 5 took micro showers to ensure we got some warm water. Thankfully, the apartment was SO HOT, that cool showers were welcomed. We choose this apartment because it was advertised to be close to the Mall. Well, if you mean the nearby small shopping mall, that is just around the corner. However, if you didn’t go to DC for shopping at Target, but instead went to see the National Mall, then you are close only if you think of a 5k race as close. Finally, there was the German family that somehow had the code to our apartment and came in, uninvited. While shopping for groceries at the "mall," we left the teen-aged kids in the apartment. Panicked, they called to tell us that another family used a code to open the locked door & entered the room insisting they were the rightful tenets. While it is not the property owners fault that someone made a mistake, I question how they gained access to our apartment. We contacted the management via text (their means of communication). Several hours later, they responded. I told tell them of the other issues (the sink & dryer). They never responded. This was a nice enough area that is returning to better days. Many home were renovated, but many were run down. We never felt unsafe walking to Metro, or laundromat. However, it was missing some of the key ingredients we thought we were getting: close proximity to the National Mall, a washer/dryer that dries, a fully functioning sink, un-timed showers, control of a thermostat, and the security of knowing that while we would be the only folks in the apartment durning out stay.
