About this property

Serene Ridgetop Kalispell Home -View Over Kitchen Sink

This house has a name - Sunrise House. It was built, lovingly, as a retirement home by a careful cowboy. The site was picked for it's easy access and yet outstanding views. You are 10 minutes from fine grocery & wet good stores, yet private on your deck with an unobstructed view of the Columbian Mountain range. You can enjoy your coffee on the deck and watch the light play over the mountains across the Valley. .

The house itself is windowed with a Frank Lloyd Wright design on the east for morning light. Hardwood floors with area wool rugs are warm and elegant. The master suite features a queen sleigh bed with the same eastern view. This suite has a walk in shower and toilet with adjoining room sink. The second bedroom has a queen bed and it's own extra deep bath tub & shower combo and toilet facilities.

Kitchen is easy with a granite counter with large island and stools that, yep you guessed it, afford a fine view of that mountain range. Gas island top range.
Hickory cabinets are fully stocked with your dishes & cooking utensils. Sidewalks up from parking area are low rise steps for easy walking. Deck has full table for outside dining right off kitchen. This house has known laughter and if you are good people, we would welcome sharing it with you.
This home has a requirement that you accept a Greeter to come and explain the
home's amenities--AC, fireplace, garbage handling, the laundry machines., etc. We also enjoy answering your questions about area attractions, current dynamite restaurants or, for example, the drive time to locations in Glacier Park.
This required Greeting is to be scheduled between the Guest & the Greeter; at mutually satisfactory time, to take place:
1. Upon Arrival. OR. 2. Within 24 hours of arriving. Between the hours of 9:00am -6:00pm... Either Ms. Housekeeper or Ms Coordinator will take about 15 minutes of your vacation time. Our intent is not to disturb your privacy or detain you on your adventures. Myself and The Crew want you to have the best experience we are capable of providing. We have learned a string of text messages or phone calls do not meet today's standards of service.

Happy trails.
Ellen and Crew

Great location

Sunrise house was perfect for us- we stayed here for over a week and went hiking and mountain biking in the area. The kitchen is well equipped for dining in and overall the house very comfortable after a day of play.

Great location in the country

The outside of the property left something to be desired; however, recently painted and new deck added. Grill not working and needed deep cleaned. There were many hand written notices as to operating Wi-Fi, etc that were incorrect so it was an hour of trial and error but found the right code. On a very good note, once established, our stay was super pleasant. Deer daily in the yard and great location to and from towns.

Serene Mountain Home in Kalispell

We enjoyed our week at Sunrise House. Loved waking up to the views and the visits from the deer and turkeys! The home’s location was perfect for our day trips to Glacier and the Flathead Valley. Ellen’s love of Montana is evident throughout the home. She and her staff made booking and staying a pleasure. Thank you all!

A Magnificent Home!

The VIEWS! All I did when I was in the house was sit in front of the window and stare, day and night. The home was perfect, in a perfect area and had everything we could have possibly needed for the almost 2 weeks we spent there. Owner, manager and cleaner were readily available any time we needed them, but we really didn't. We will definitely be back!

Jewell on the Hill

I rented "Sunrise House" from November, 2013 - May, 2014 as I was commuting back and forth from Oregon to my job in Kalispell. I can't say enough good things about Ellen's hilltop retreat. The views are spectacular, wildlife everywhere, and the only noise is the birds and the wind. Thanks so much Ellen for your kindness and for the experience!

Our timely timeout

Scheduled our trip last minute due to a Covid cancelled previously scheduled trip. Wanted a place to visit that was hassle free and would allow our family the opportunity to both explore a new area and the chance to get away and relax as well. The property allowed us to do both, as it was located in a peaceful setting outside of town as well as close enough to Kalispell proper.

Beautiful Property!!

We enjoyed incredible views from this hilltop property, and the the deer came up every day to visit. The house had everything we wanted, including an outdoor gas grill. The location is perfect for visiting Kalispell, Whitefish, Glacier Park and Flathead Lake. We were lucky enough to meet Ellen, and we wished we could have spent more time together. Thanks Erika and Susie for all your help.

Absolutely awesome! Do not miss this!

Amazing views, extremely clean, everything you want or need here! Don't look any further! Ellen & Kelly were super friendly and helpful - this is a great location if you're wanting to hang around Glacier, convenient to everything. Only problem was we didn't want to leave the property, just wanted to sit on the deck and soak in the view! We will be back for sure! Thanks, Ellen, for sharing your gorgeous home with us!

Cozy, Sunny Getaway

This house exudes comfort and relaxation. On the days we went off adventuring in Glacier National Park, it was the prefect place to return home to shower, cook a family meal, read a book, or watch the sunset; and on the in-between days when we were too exhausted to move, we were gently awakened by sunlight streaming in the windows, gorgeous views of the Rockies, and a gourmet kitchen in which to prepare heaping stacks of huckleberry pancakes, crisp bacon, and scrumptious eggs. The house is in a great location, close to Kalispell and Glacier National Park, yet definitely allows you to get away and exclude yourself from the world if you need to. Highly recommended!

Best Vacation Ever!

My husband and I spent the week of Oct. 8-15, 2016 in this beautiful home. Montana's weather put on a show for us, and we were able to experience fall color and winter snow both during that time. The proximity of Sunrise House to Glacier National Park, Flathead Lake, Whitefish, and other great spots allowed us to enjoy our vacation to the fullest. This home is warm and inviting, and the views are drop-dead gorgeous. But who would have thought that the highlight of our trip would be having dinner with the owner, Ellen? If you're lucky, you might get to spend a little time with her, too. We highly recommend Sunrise House. You will not be disappointed!

Most relaxing vacation ever!

I needed a relaxing vacation in a peaceful setting, this was the perfect place. The scenery was fantastic, to wake up every morning looking out at the mountains, meadows, visiting deer was absolutely wonderful. The house has everything you need. Honestly could have stayed at the house everyday, it was our first time to Montana so we wanted to see the sites. We certainly looked forward to coming back to our beautiful home for the week. The owner "Ellen" was wonderful, gave us great recommendations for dinner along with advice on what to see and do in the area. Everyone should take the time to go on the "going to the sun" road in Glacier National Park - it was the most beautiful drive ever. Overall I would highly recommend this house, I don't think it can get any better than this!

Nice views but lacking amenities

This was our second time staying at this house and we returned because the views are unbelievable and the house is very comfortable. We were going to book it for a third year, however the wifi did not work at all and the air conditioning in the main part of the house was not cold. Luckily I had an iPad hotspot that I could work from, otherwise the lack of wifi would have been a real issue. The owner also stayed in the basement apartment two of the nights that we were there, which was fine but unexpected. They did message us during our stay to let us know this but we just felt for the price we would have liked more privacy.

Great location but some important deficiencies

The property manager was on vacation so we communicated with the owner. They actually gave us the wrong house number. 🙄 The house was very close to Kalispell. It was about :40-:50 drive to Glacier National Park’s West Side entrance. If you want to hit the Many Glacier area, it’s a 2 1/2 hr drive so not the most convenient. The Wi-Fi didn’t work the entire week we were there. The owner said she needed to have the property manager call the internet company but the property manager was on vacation so it didn’t happen. The set up of the living room is bizarre. It’s a 2 bedroom house so 3 of us stayed there but there are only 2 lazy boys for seating in front of the TV and 2 seats facing the fireplace. It makes no sense. After a full day of hiking, you want to relax and maybe watch a movie but we couldn’t. Well 2 of us could and the other had to sit on the floor. The owners belongings were all over which hasn’t been my experience at other VRBOs. It was clean but the guest room bath has electrical tape around the vanity. There was no dresser in the guest room so I couldn’t put my clothes away. They had a bar chair to put your suitcase on. Not ideal. All in all, it was good location with a beautiful view but the home & amenities need some work.

False Accusations and Damage Deposit Fraud

I've stayed at VRBO properties all over the country, and have an impeccable reputation and universally high reviews from homeowners. Upon arrival there was leftover trash and partially consumed food left in the refrigerator - GROSS. Property manager informed me she was suspicious that there were more than four people sleeping in the home, because there was a lot of food on the counter when she 'checked in' with me (right after I'd purchased food for the entire week). Yes, for a week long stay with several teenagers, lots of food is required. She stated there were toddler toys, but in fact these were a spike-ball game, skateboards and blades for cruising around (all young adult toys and games). She accused us of having more than four people sleeping in the home. Not one night did more than four people sleep in the home, in fact one night there was only me sleeping in the home, another night me and one other person, one night three people, and the last three nights there were four people. We were accused of having pets, when in fact the brittle gray hair she claimed was 'all over the home' was in fact hair from the animal skin throws in the home. We were accused of bringing 'tree branches' into the home, which amounted to normal pieces of straw brought in from kids playing in the meadows surrounding the home. We did in fact unseal the bear spray, which I'd be happy to pay for. The oven was ridiculous, taking nearly an hour to cook bacon in the morning, and there were a grand total of two partial rolls of toilet paper in the home upon arrival, so we required more TP early in our stay. Overall, this owner and her property manager were out to get us, making up the false stories I've listed and claiming a full commercial cleaning was required after we departed. I've stayed at VRBO properties all over the country, and never have I experienced a home so unprepared for our arrival, and then a homeowner and manager intent on keeping my damage deposit. To all potential renters, I advise to stay clear of this house! Lots of nice properties other than this one in beautiful Kalispel. I've lodged a formal complaint with VRBO, so this property might soon be delisted from their site anyway.

The property was exactly as advertised if not better! The views are beautiful. About the host

Hosted by Susie Pruewitt

Host profile image
We are old cattle and dude ranchers. We built the Sunrise Home after we sold the ranch. The home was built to capture the full length of the Columbia Mountain range east of Kalispell. It sits above the Fabulous Flathead valley. Each hour of the day brings new sights with the glow of sunrise early, the green pastures below with horses grazing, and the twinkle of lights as night settles over the valley.

Why they chose this property

We built this house to look onto a quiet beautful world that is known as the Flathead Valley. There are deer near and hawks & eagles in the sky out front. Guests find all the comforts of home when coming back to this home. . This area has attracted tourists since the railroad companies first built the rails and hotels to allow people to visit.
I, Ellen, the Owner-Mortguage Holder of Sunrise House --work at a National Historical Registry Hotel in Glacier National Park during the summer season. On very rare occasions I could be using, for a short duration, my private apartment in the locked off area, ground level, of the home. My intent is not to disturb my guests, only let you know who belongs to that vehicle at the driveway entrance.

What makes this property unique

It's quiet, yet not to far to go into town . We never tire of watching the light on the mountain range across the flathead valley.
And there is always a glorious sunrise.
