Wedding weekend

My son and his wife were married the last weekend in March in Richmond. The beautiful and historic Marshall House was a wonderful place for extended family to stay and experience a sense of togetherness that was vastly superior to (and actually more affordable than) a block of hotel rooms. The interior was spacious and had numerous areas for sitting and conversing. Paul and Kim were very conscientious hosts, and I had the pleasure of meeting Paul. The Marshall House added so much to a wonderful wedding weekend! I could also envision the residence as simply a wonderful getaway for multiple families to convene. It truly was spectacular and I highly recommend it!!

Historic House Made for Extra Special Gathering

Out of town family stayed in this lovely property for our after Christmas reunion. The kitchen, sitting area was our favorite spot because we could all be together while cooking, watching football or going outside to play corn hole, etc. Equally nice was the large living room where we able to get everyone in to do our gift exchange. And, we had extra chairs and side table to enlarge the space for our dinner. Having different areas also made it great for folks that needed a little respite from the group. The kitchen had everything we needed and the extra touch of having tea and coffee and water was appreciated. The location is close to everything in town and the neighboring streets are lovely for walking. The owners were easily reached when we had a couple of questions.

The Marshall House is a FIVE STAR!!!

We had a group of 11 women that all graduated high school together 37 years ago!! This house was absolutely perfect!! The kitchen was beautiful, and so well appointed with everything you could possibly need. There is a bar to sit at and a room off the kitchen that was wonderful for plenty of people to sit around and catch up! We spent a lot of time at the covered seating area outside by the pool, with the sun shining in. The pool has lounge chairs and umbrellas. A few of us used the pool for cold-plunging, as it was mid-November! We all thought it was so nice the house was stocked with supplies. There was shampoo, lotion, a ton of laundry detergent, Keurig pods, great spices, you name it! There was plenty of parking in the driveway and the neighborhood is quiet and beautiful. We would all highly recommend the Marshall House to anyone!!

Perfect for Family

I visited Richmond with my large family, and this was the perfect home for our visit. There are five bedrooms and a room on the first floor that was easily converted into a six bedroom with a pull out couch house as well stocked and clean. We definitely hope to return soon.

Do Not Hesitate!

Amazing amazing property! Hosts thought out everything to make their home warm comfortable and very well appointed. Stayed with a group of friend couples and no one wanted to leave. We literally stayed up to 1 minute before checkout. I have rented many homes and this one stands out at the top. Look forward to renting again.

Fantastic Property!

The house was gorgeous and was appointed with absolutely everything one could need. Such a great spot for multiple families from all over to get together and just hang out and catch up. Our teens thoroughly enjoyed the pool. The house is in a great, quiet neighborhood... located basically 15 minutes away from everywhere we needed to be. Our hosts were super responsive to any questions - even let us know that we could get in early to the property on arrival day. There was ample off-street parking for all our cars -- plus the few extras for family members that stopped by to join us for pool time and dinner. The list of check out asks was not onerous like some places... just strip the beds, run the dishwasher, and take out the trash. This property was the icing on the cake for an amazing weekend as we all came in town to celebrate our parents' 60th anniversary! Highly recommend!

Leadership Off-Site

We booked this property to hold a company off-site event. There was plenty of space for the 7 of us to meet comfortably and go off to our own areas to work as needed. I was able to plug my computer into a very large screen TV for a streamed meeting- wifi was a little weak for this, but worked ok for the most part. The sleeping arrangements worked out well, although one bedroom was only accessible through another bedroom which was a little awkward, but worked out. Overall, very comfortable accommodations with everything we needed. We cooked dinner one night and used the grill outside. The pool wasn't open but it was still nice to sit out in the back for lunch and evening social time. Highly recommend!

Family birthday gathering

Everyone thought the rental was really terrific. They had all the things we needed and good explanations on the website on how to use things in the house. One addition to the guest website might be some history of the house. It is such an interesting house that people were curious about its history. It was a really lovely setting, and great that it was so close to so much to do -- the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Carytown, Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, etc. Thank you so much.

Lovely Home!

Spacious property in an excellent location. Convenient to downtown. Excellent hosts! This is a great place to stay. Optimally, this is very comfortable for 10 people -- families are best as 3 of the 5 bedrooms share one large and well appointed bathroom. There are 4 nicely appointed living/family rooms and great outdoor space! Loved our stay there!

Beautiful and fun weekend getaway

We booked this property for a fun pool weekend with friends who don’t frequently have a chance to get together. The property is absolutely beautiful; clean, spacious, with the warmth and personality of a historic home. It was so well stocked that we were constantly finding treasures in the many storage spaces. The pool was perfection. The owners are very nice, communicative, and welcomed us with some personal touches that were incredibly thoughtful. Thank you, Kim and Paul, for your hospitality, and for setting the backdrop to some wonderful memories!

Comfort and Elegance

The Marshall house was a beautiful property and a great place to stay for our family who came from all over the country for my daughter's wedding. It is an older home so there were a few minor issues, but overall everyone was impressed with the place. It was much more convenient and interesting than staying in a hotel. We fit 12 people in the house comfortably.

Family Affair

Marshall House is a beautiful historic home and was perfect for our extended family that was gathering in Richmond for a wedding. The home is large and had plenty of space for our party of 15. The kids enjoyed the pool and the adults loved spending time in the evening around the fire table on the back porch. The house itself is in a great location 10-15 minutes from airport, Carytown, James River, etc. We would definitely stay again!

We are a busy family of 4 who has over the years enjoyed restoring historical properties and sharing our love of unique older homes with other travelers on VRBO. We are a premier host of Dryden House in Cape Charles, VA, and now have over 50 reviews on VRBO and we are also frequent guests of VRBO properties. We have learned the value of some of the smaller details that can detract from or enhance a family getaway and try to make our guests feel welcome in our home.

READ A RECENT 2022 REVIEW OF OUR 5-star DRYDEN HOUSE BEACH PROPERTY-
Best family vacation ever!!!! This property was the nicest house and location we have rented in 25 years. This house had everything you could ever need or want. It was by far the most well-equipped vrbo imaginable!!! We have rented a property on the coast (mostly OBX) for 25 years. For our family of grandparents, 30 to 40 year old children., 8,5,and 9 month old grandchildren.....The Dryden House was a vacation that we will never forget!!

We Strive for quality guest experiences and personalized details. We attribute our past success to repeat guests and often have bookings a year in advance while our guests are still enjoying their stay. This speaks to the VRBO experience of renting a historic home in one of Virginia's picturesque historic districts.

Why they chose this property

We are the third owners of the Marshall house in the last 100 years. We have taken on the challenge of some neglect and embraced the opportunities of restoring this property to its former glory. Between guests, in the year to come, we will be on a mission of constant improvements such as updated paint colors and appliances. We also have big plans for the outdoor space, an inviting fire pit, an extended grilling area, and plenty of additional seating. This hopefully means that all our guests have something new to look forward to this season. We welcome suggestions for improvements in all ways big and small as this home is intended to be a lifelong project for us as we head towards retirement.

What makes this property unique

Location! Location! Location! Great neighborhood to enjoy the 56-acre Seminary campus with its historical charm and walking paths and nearby parks and tennis courts. We also have a nearby community pool free to all guests with an outdoor toddler water play area and the Arthur Ashe walking trail and tennis courts in Battery Park.

The relaxing & private saltwater pool is an added bonus in summer, plus a large grass area behind the guest house is perfect for volleyball, bat mitten, boules or croquet.

Fantastic chef's kitchen with gas cooktop, beverage Frig, and commercial ice maker, this is truly a home away from home where serving a large meal in other short-term rentals is often a chore, where serving dishes and oversized cooking pans are scarce.

Private parking is another plus for guests having more than one vehicle a must as overnight parking in the city nearby can be a challenge. The unique low-profile front porch allows wheelchair accessibility and the first-floor queen bedroom can accommodate guests who have trouble with stairs. This house has something for everyone as far as private spaces and patios. Great for larger groups who still value privacy and a quiet atmosphere.
