We look forward to our annual weekend in Galena. We loved this house! It has the perfect location which allows a short walk to downtown. We look forward to returning to this house.
We had a great time, really enjoyed the house. We even had a deer walking through the backyard Saturday evening! The house had everything we needed.
We did have an issue with the front outside light not working.
2 Mom friends traveled to historic Galena for the weekend. The house was lovely but we did end up sharing it with a kitchen mouse. Also we were not able to log into our TV subscriptions successfully. Safe walkable neighborhood.
Nice place. Stairs to lower level a little scary. Would not be ok for someone with knee or hip problems. There were a few other surprises that were my fault because I did not read the description well enough. Overall, it was a fun place to stay.
We had a very peaceful & enjoyable weekend. You can walk down to town to get a GREAT lower body workout as downhill there & uphill back!! Back yard is nice to sit, relax, have a drink and talk!!
We had a great time here! location was great, comfortable beds, we had 2 cars and easy street parking for the 2nd. There was a cozy hangout spot on the main level, just a perfect house for a girls weekend. Very clean and lots of character.
Amazing little historic home in a quiet neighborhood.
We had a great stay! The home was built in the 1800's if I remember correctly from the guest book. It has been updated with all the modern amenities and is very cozy!
It is beautifully maintained with lots of culture for the time-period.
This is a 3-story cottage and if you walk to town, it's all uphill on the way back. So, if you can't do stairs, this isn't for you. We are 50 and fairly active so the stairs weren't a problem for us.
We would definitely stay here again.
The place was a little smaller than expected and so somewhat tight for 4 adults. Bathrooms were a bit uncomfortable. Overall, an okay stay, cozy, but tight.
My best friend and I utilized this property for our annual girls weekend.
The pictures did not do it justice! This is an absolutely beautiful property and the gardens and backyard were gorgeous. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by two fans and a doe in the backyard! The home decor was amazing and you felt like you were taking a step back in time with all the historical decor. The location was awesome and just a few blocks away from downtown.
We had so much fun on our journeys walking back-and-forth to and from downtown. Definitely don’t wear any shoes with heels for the trek and be prepared for some exercise! We learned our lesson the first night. It is absolutely beautiful property and we cannot wait to come back.
My adult son and I try to take a a small-scale road trip together every Spring. This past week, we built so many new memories, in great part due to this wonderful property. It’s super-clean, with character and an historical ambience. We found so much to do in the Galena area, including nearby towns and the Galena River Trail. Coming “home” each evening to this cozy place was a comforting feeling after each very active day. My son, who has a developmental disability due to childhood stroke, savored every minute of our week and loved making up stories about who you used to live in the house and stories behind many of the objects there. And I certainly cherished every moment with him. This house had a lot to do with a very memorable week, and I highly recommend it.
This is a beautifully restored cottage with one gorgeous bedroom downstairs with a half bath and one nice sized bedroom on the top floor with a full bath. The attention to the historic detail of the property is amazing and it is perfectly designed. The ground level has a small kitchen, sitting room and dining room/ media space. It is small but was perfect for the 3 of us life long friends to gather. It does only have one parking space but street parking is available and worked for us. It is within walking distance from the Main street where the shopping/ restaurants are but be in shape for the walk back uphill. 😁 Tanya the owner was very responsive to messages and it was clean and well supplied with towels, kitchen gadgets etc. Should we plan our next girlfriend getaway in the area would definitely reserve again!
It is a beautiful little home. But they should be more clear about the second bedroom is in the basement . The kids were suppose to stay in that room but the door has glass windows and can be broke in easily . There is no dead bolt. We are city people and did not feel that this house was secure. I ended up in the basement bedroom and I was even scared. It doesn’t have a window shade so anyone can see in. I will make sure the next house has security system or stay in hotel.
The host tried blaming us for a tv that had fell off the wall mount while we were already gone and checked out. So not too sure if that actually happened or if she made it look that way. Also the tv that fell was stated that it was a smart tv and it was not. It was also not working when we got there. The downstairs bedroom has crystals and other things growing on the walls. I had to message the host after check in time for the information to get into the place. Also if you are tall, bad place for you because the house has very short ceilings. It is an old and gorgeous home and we had the best time with our little getaway to Galena but the host made things more difficult. The neighbor was the friendliest lady as well! I would love to give 5 stars but make sure to report any damages or anything not working when first arriving to ensure the host doesn’t try blaming you. Just a warning! Also the dreaded hill that people talk about is definitely a thing. If you are not in shape I don’t recommend walking up and down the hill.
I have traveled internationally for over 25 years and know what is needed to have a great stay. I am also the owner of Float and Fly Wellness Studio in Dubuque Iowa (15 minute drive) and I welcome you to some self care during your stay.
Why they chose this property
This home is my second home and is filled with family heirlooms, antiques and many amenities. This home is in a residential neighborhood where you are the only guests. Live like the locals do here in historic Galena. This home has been beautifully resored with original floors on the main level. It is a very peaceful stay but really close to all the fun downtown main street offers.
What makes this property unique
Enjoy the gardens and outdoor space while you toast marshmallows by the fire, dine under the stars or read a book on a rainy day from the comfort of the three-season room while listening to the fountain. This home is relaxation at its best. Enjoy this very unique property that I am lucky enough to call our second home.
