The PoorHouse is a classic historic Nantucket house, built in 1804. Our family is only the fourth owner of the property! We love sharing our inside knowledge so that you can experience Nantucket as if you have been coming to the island for generations.
The house is simply furnished, but updated and very comfortable with a large, well equipped country kitchen (redone for 2021), luxury bedding, towel warmers and robes in every room, window unit A/C for the summer (whisper quiet MIdea and Windmill units - both NYTimes Wirecutter top picks), gas fireplaces for the off-season, a best in class LG - 48" OLED Smart webOS TV for gamers or binge watching, super fast WiFi, ping pong, foosball, and all the yard and board games you could want. We offer a wonderful in town location, only a 10 minute walk to the base of Main Street, but in a very quiet neighborhood with lots of yard space and light, and a deck and patio with teak furniture for lounging and meals. Across the street is a large conservation parcel, so you feel like you are in the country! Be sure to visit the spectacular Garden of the Sea and the plaque commemorating the neighborhood role in the abolitionist movement.
The PoorHouse has 4 bedrooms and three full bathrooms, plenty of room and private space for 3-4 couples, or a gathering of family or friends. You'll have a great base for a weekend, or a longer vacation.
We offer a range of additional services to enhance your stay at the PoorHouse: car pick up from the boat or airport; housekeeping; provisioning/catering; restaurant recommendations and reservations; and anything else to create the perfect vacation.
