About this property

Antique Bayside Cottage in Village Center with Water View

Enjoy the rustic charm of an original 1800s Bayside gingerbread cottage! Savor the view from the front porch, relax with a good book, or chat with neighbors as they stroll by -- this is a friendly summer community! Dyer Cottage sleeps six in three bedrooms (one queen, one double and a set of twins) and one bath. We furnish bed linens, but you should plan to bring your own towels. Porch furniture, charcoal grill and picnic table provided. Email or call for availability, June through Labor Day.

Visible from the front porch, the water's edge is just a block away -- as is the Village Center, a family-friendly focal point for summer fun. Children frolic on the playground swings, while older kids play pick-up games on the basketball court. At the Village pier and float, children of all ages splash in the bay under the careful watch of a lifeguard. Youngsters can learn to sail in classes offered through the Village Yacht Club. Rental kayaks are available nearby, and can be beached here. Many summer residents are sailors, and their moored boats dot the Bayside shoreline. Northport Golf Club is just a few blocks away and welcomes visitors.

Historic Bayside: Established as a Wesleyan summer camp meeting community in the 1800s, Bayside's original homes -- tents on wooden platforms -- were subsequently transformed into Victorian gingerbread cottages that now are gaily painted in a variety of hues. The village comes to life during the summer season, with American flags flying, colorful flowers overflowing their planter boxes, cats snoozing in the sun, residents rocking on their front porches, and friendly folks strolling the streets and socializing along the way.

Nearby Attractions: From Bayside, it's just a short drive to Lincolnville Beach, where the ferry leaves for Islesboro. A few miles farther down are hiking trails in the Camden Hills (Mt. Battie), and the beautiful town and harbor of Camden. The Farnsworth Museum, famous for its Wyeth collection and more, is situated not far beyond Camden in Rockland, another seaport, which offers day cruises and overnight windjammer sails. A little farther down the coast you can cruise to Puffin Island, where the birds were reintroduced successfully in the 1980s, or visit a botanical garden in Boothbay Harbor.

In the opposite direction, you can head into picturesque Belfast with its new shipbuilding facility and small working harbor. In Searsport, don't miss the Penobscot Marine Museum with its historical perspective on the area's seafaring days. Farther East are the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory, and historic Fort Knox.

On up the coast are spectacular Acadia National Park (not to be missed!) and the towns of Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Seal Harbor and Southwest Harbor on Mount Desert Island. There you can go sightseeing, whale-watching, island-hopping, and more. En route you'll pass a water park in Ellsworth, mini-golf, and other attractions.

Antiques shops, art galleries and restaurants abound throughout the Midcoast Region.

Countless families make Bayside their annual vacation destination throughout their children's growing up years -- and beyond. Kids who come for successive summers establish lifelong friendships.

the location was incredible

The location was great for us and the area is so picturesque. I was not aware there was no Wi-Fi and no tv to watch (even though there was a tv with a box) but were told is was not in use......they did go out of there way to provide towels and washrags for us because we were flying. The thermostat was not changeable and stairs are extremely narrow (width) Just FYI

Lovely home for a lovely place

We loved our stay in this little house. The beds were comfortable and modern and it was well equipped with fans for any warm afternoons. It is easy to miss that linens and towels are listed as separate amenities on VRBO so don't think linens provided means towels. But no worries if you forget them as I did . .. we love to spend money at the area department store Renys. !! Don't forget your own towels!

Thoughtful owner

Thoughtful & kind owner refunded 1/2 our fee as we had to leave a week early. My elderly dad had a medical issue that we had to take care of immediately cutting our vacation short. She did not have to do that according to the rental contract. We love Bayside!

Cottage needs help. No internet

This property is in desperate need of serious maintenance. The porch is great. There is no internet. With people working remote that’s an issue. Not sure if we would rent it again.

Bayside Summer 2022

The house is an original Bayside cottage, a bit rustic, but very clean and quite spacious with all the necessary amenities. Superb location. We had a wonderful week and will stay again. Thank you!

Ideal location.

This house in Bayside community is in ideal location in mid coast Maine close to Camden, Rockland, Belfast, Bangor and Bar Harbor. From the house it's a two minute walk to the North port yacht club harbor on the bay. The house it self is in dire need of refurbishing, repainting and updating.

Unique community

A quiet yet busy locale, with kayaking, bike-riding, nature-walking all nearby. Proximity to a great small town (Belfast), and also within day-tripping distance to Bar Harbor and Boothbay Harbor.

Rustic and cozy

The cottage we stayed in was not as pictured (it was 2 doors down). It was smaller but just right for our family of three. It had a nice porch, spacious living area, and eat in kitchen downstairs with one bath and 3 bedrooms upstairs. The middle bedroom (with 2 twin beds) did not actually have a door, so it would be best for heavy sleepers and/or people who go to bed late/get up early and don't want to wake others. Of the two end bedrooms, the one next to the bathroom is fairly small and has a double bed and dresser with no closet. The other is very spacious with two twin beds and a closet. The neighborhood was pretty quiet so we slept well with the windows open, but if you like a lot of privacy be warned that the houses are VERY close together. Lastly, the house is not on the water but it is just a short walk away.

Total Relaxation in a Quaint Town on the Coast

We had a fabulous stay in Northport, ME. The home is quaint and a short walk from a community park and from the Bay. The area is charming. There is a community library and museum nearby and an artists sells his work across the street. The home doesn't have some modern conveniences (like Internet access) that some might like, but it was relaxing and more than adequate for our needs. It was a bonus that there were a lot of kids in the area and that we were able to bring our dog. The location was close enough to other attractions (like Acadia National Park, Camden, Rockland, Bar Harbor, a game and bowling center for kids, a Sailing School/Yacht Club, a Community Center, a Community Theater, etc.) to allow easy day trips and local entertainment. We would recommend this location to anyone whose interest is rest and relaxation and who desires a short walk to wonderful water views!

Nice quaint place close to harbor

Enjoyable cotttage for a stay close to harbor and activities. Carolyn was honest and easy to communicate with. Bayside village is quiet making it enjoyable to sit on the porch in the evening and relax.
