About this property

Las Posadas El Salto, above the town of Arroyo Seco, 8 mi To TSV, 8 m to Taos.

We know our fellow travelers have a lot of vacation rental options in and around Taos. We believe all they need to do is watch our beautifully shot video tour of the house and the property with its private forested surroundings and read our guest reviews and they can picture themselves in one of the best family vacation getaways in winter, spring, summer or fall in Taos New Mexico.
Safe travels everyone and Happy vacationing.

Sitting on several wooded acres and nestled at the foot of the majestic Sangre De Cristo mountain range, Las Posadas El Salto is Northern New Mexico’s ultimate vacation home. This architect designed custom built mountain adobe chalet boasts an incredible view of Taos Valley to the West, and to the East an awe inspiring view of Taos Mountain and El Salto peak normally reserved for the pages of your favorite travel magazine!

Imagine waking up in the morning to fresh mountain air, while taking in your “100 mile” view of the Taos Valley from your 800 square foot balcony, located just outside the master bedroom. Soak away stress in your private hot-tub or settle into a plush sofa and watch your favorite movie on one of 2 flat-screen televisions fully connected to Direct TV Satellite. The house has a fine DVD collection for guests to watch and movie streaming capability from your smart phone. (please bring your appropriate cable/adapter for your smartphone iPhone or Android to hook up to the TV HDMI cables provided) to watch any movies, photos or other media content from your smartphone.
Cook your meals and entertain guests using your spacious and fully equipped gourmet kitchen or head 2 miles down the road for dinner in the quaint mountain village of Arroyo Seco. Your home comes with high speed broadband Wi-Fi internet access and even a small business center so that you take care of your clients and get right back to enjoying your mountain getaway.
Conveniently located 8 miles from downtown Taos, and 8 miles from the world renowned slopes of Taos Ski Valley; you will not find a better place to serve as a hub for the endless wonders of Taos New Mexico and the surrounding areas. It doesn’t matter if you are a first time visitor, or a seasoned traveler to Taos. Los Posadas El Salto will provide you with the vacation experience of a lifetime.

We hear over and over again that when guests arrive and relax at the house, they feel the weight of hectic life schedules and stress and demands lifted. This is one of the most peaceful and quiet settings in Taos. Most properties here have the noise of some road or highway or other city type sounds. At Las Posadas El Salto all you hear is the wind singing through the tall pines and snow falling on cedars in winter.

We hope this description of travel information to our property and all of Northern New Mexico in the winter months from October through April is helpful in answering vehicle and access questions.
Las Posadas El Salto is located in the Southern Rocky Mountain region. We see snow and variable winter weather from late October to late spring (April) as well as does the rest of Northern New Mexico. We stay on top of the job of snow removal of the driveway and walk ways at the property with our own snow removal equipment, including using our own snowplow to keep the road to the house/property plowed as well.
Our neighborhood also hires a private snow removal contractor for the main road that the property is located on. We also spread small gravel for traction as much as possible. We have learned this from 25 years of skiing at Taos Ski Valley which has similar road and walkway winter maintenance. We have always advised our guests on the websites to use good judgement when embarking on a winter getaway to all of Northern New Mexico and other nearby states that experience winter weather that can make traveling by car a little tricky. We suggest the following options for vehicles.
1) 4 wheel drive or AWD is strongly recommended. (But there are other options that our guests and friends can take.)
2) For front wheel drive vehicles and rear wheel drive vehicles only. We suggest buying two inexpensive snow tires, that are non studded for the front wheels or drive wheels and we also suggest purchasing a set of good snow chains for the car as well.
We have never had a vehicle problem in 25 years of living in Taos that we couldn't take care of without any mishap. We extend that help and advice to our traveling friends and guests coming into the area in Winter time to avoid any problems. We wish all our guests very safe travels on all their excursions. Happy vacationing.

Views for ages

Overall, I really enjoyed my time at Las Posadas El Salto. The property is spectacular; quiet, great views, private, and peaceful. In addition, the property is well supplied (blankets, kitchen utensils, laundry, etc.) and comfortable. Connectivity (broadband/wi-fi and wireless) is good and supported my remote work needs.I was in Taos for skiing and snowboarding, so this was a near perfect setting and location. I think it would be equally great in the summer as well. The owners are very responsive. In addition, they took care of aspects I expected to be responsible for during a long stay, such as trash removal from the property.

Wonderful getaway!

Second time staying at this property. Owner is knowledgeable and friendly. Love the kitchen, great center focus of the house and easy to cook and bake meals all week. Living Room fireplace keeps the house nice and toasty in the winter and the hot tub is excellent after a long day skiing the steeps of Taos. Will be back again!

Peaceful Stay in Arroyo Seco

We had a great time and the location is quiet and peaceful in the mountains near Arroyo Seco. The flexible living arrangement of a 2-story house with basement apartment made for flexibility, privacy, and a good fit for extended family. Overall, gracious hosts and a warm and cozy cabin to base all of our activities from. The kitchen has everything you could think of in it and the beds were extremely comfortable. The place really grows on you and overall, I give it 5 stars for a wonderful stay.

Secluded, comfortable, with plenty to do inside.

A bit of maintenence going on toward the rear of the property but not a big deal. Home owner welcomed our party on a chilly rainy night with a warm fire which was much appreciated, owner was also very friendly and accommodating. I would give another half of star if the option existed. May come back for a snowbording trip next season.

peaceful and pleasant retreat within reach of Taos

Our June stay at this property was relaxing and very pleasant. The house is tucked away on a private lane that was isolated from other residents and provided a great view. There was plenty of space for everyone, and Jamie was a very accommodating host. He directed us to local hikes very near the property that we really enjoyed-especially one to the towering cliffs of El Salto- truly spectacular! It was very hot (record breaking hot) during our stay, and the house struggled a bit to stay cool, but Jamie provided fans that were quite effective. The only negative I would mention is that the 20-25 minute trip back and forth to Taos was a bit of a barrier to shopping and dining.

Gem in Aroyo Seco/Taos Ski Valley

This is our fourth time renting this property in ten years. It is our favorite place to stay in Taos. It's half way to the ski village, half way to town. Very private, beautiful house. Best amenity is the hot tub. No sharing with other hotel guests! The house is wonderful with a full kitchen and plenty of space to spread out. Fireplace/stove is very cozy on cold nights. Laundry onsite is a HUGE plus. Lower apartment bungalow is great for extra guests. Owner is always around to help. Amazing knowledge of the area and valley. Hiking trails are near by. It feels like home! Beautiful views, stars and more. Can't wait til next year!

Perfect for ski vacation hideaway!

Had a wonderful time at Jamie's place. Kitchen stove worked great, no high altitude problems. Loved the flexibility of the kitchen (able to see the LR and DR) and the fireplace stove was wonderful on cold nights. Hot tub was really nice and very clean. Rooms were spacious and bathrooms great. Even the kids (3 & 5) loved the place. Would definitely stay here again. Laundry facilities were definitely a plus. Next time we won't bring so many clothes! Lots of stairs though. Up to the second floor and up from the parking area. Got quite a workout! Recommend a 4-wheel drive vehicle, as road is "bumpy." Arroyo Seco is a great little town and the Taos Cow had great breakfast burrito's! See you in 2013! Black Lab was very friendly!

Labor Day Leisure

Las Posadas El Salto offered my family the perfect opportunity to escape for the holiday weekend. We made the late decision to head to Taos for the weekend and were able to work with Jamie, the owner, to secure the property within several several hours of first contact. Jamie knowledge of the local area allowed us to effectively plan activities surrounding the whole weekend. Hiking and fishing opportunities abound and Jamie will be more than happy to help you decide what to do. The House itself was extremely clean and well appointed. We ate in every night, cooking in the kitchen was easy, which often times is the perfect solution for travelers with small children, it additionally allowed us to keep the overall cost very reasonable. Jamie also allowed us to bring our dogs along to stay, as long as we followed a couple very logical rules. I'm pretty sure they had the best time of anyone on the trip. Things to keep in mind. Taos proper is about a 20 min drive depending on traffic, perfect for myself, but may seem a bit longer if you drive into town for every meal. You are in the midst of a national forest, so wildlife is at your back door; awesome as far as I'm concerned, but your opinion may differ. The house sits at 8000+ feet, if your coming from sea level expect to notice the alt. Don't use that as an excuse not to get out and see the natural wonders that the area has to offer; you'll only be disappointed in yourself. All in all I would highly recommend staying at Las Posadas El Salto, and will be coming back very soon.

Amazing Mountain Retreat

My husband and I had an amazing 10 day anniversary vacation of hiking, exploring, relaxing and enjoying beautiful northern New Mexico. Las Posadas El Salto home was a perfect secluded mountain top escape for us to be our "home away from home" during this time. While secluded, it's a quick drive to Arroyo Seco, Taos and all the places we wanted to get to mountain hiking or for a nice dinner or an afternoon Espresso. Jamie was amazing to work with from the beginning, was always available for questions, provided info hiking trails, tips on where to eat and even what to order. The home's upper bedroom was sooo comfortable with its own deck and place to watch the sunsets. We would come back from a day of hiking, listen to music with a glass of wine and watch the sun go down from there. Just beautiful. The whole house has loads of windows. Being early June, we kept the windows open at night to enjoy the mountain cross-breezes blowing through for a perfect relaxing restful sleep. There are two decks to choose where you want to lounge around on. Jamie tries to think of EVERYTHING you might need. From things to cook with, spices, plenty of towels, icepack (for my husband's back!), coats, maps to hiking trails and shops. He even helped us get our boarding passes printed before we left. At the time we were there, New Mexico had a few issues with moths around the city, so we became the resident "moth hunters" that seemed to sneak into the house, which was a bit annoying. I don't think Jamie could have prevented that. The furniture is comfortable, durable and planned for all seasons, including the ski-season, so we understood it was not going to be brand new. Everything was very clean, well-cared for and ready for us when we arrived, including linens, showers, dishes, glassware, pots and pans. We had an AMAZING time! A PLUS+

A Wonderful Winter Getaway Location

We spent our Thanksgiving Holiday at Las Posadas El Salto and had a fantastic vacation. The house was perfect for our needs. We had our family of 4 upstairs in the 2 story main house and my In-laws stayed in the separate apartment. We also brought our two small dogs! The downstairs apartment has a small kitchen where meals could be prepared and it's own refrigerator, too. We cooked all of our meals upstairs and found the kitchen to be well stocked with all we needed. The dining table seats 8 and there is additional space to sit if you need to feed more people. The radiant floor heating kept the house nice and cozy. The top floor is a very large master bedroom and bath with a balcony and office space. There is plenty of space for an air mattress (or two) in this room if you need additional space for children or other guests. TVs in every room make it easy to accommodate all viewers, although we didn't spend much time watching TV. My son did enjoy the Xbox downstairs and there was a wide variety of games and movies available. The house was in a beautiful, serene location set off of the main roads. We hiked along El Salto road. There were many places to play in the snow near the house, so our kids were very happy building snowmen and playing right outside the door! When we did venture out, we had a quick trip (10 min) into Taos to shop/eat and it was also conveniently located on the way to the Taos Ski Valley (15 min). Jamie was extremely helpful and very responsive. We had a couple of questions and were able to text him or call and get an answer right away. We needed dishwashing detergent, I texted, received a quick reply, and it was delivered that day while we were out. The washer and dryer were very handy as well. We enjoyed our winter vacation. We travelled to the US Ski Hill which is a great place for some free sledding. We purchased a sled at the Taos ACE Hardware and had a blast! We enjoyed shopping and exploring the town of Taos and Arroyo Seco., We went snowmobiling on the Taos mountain with Big Al. We had so much fun, that we are planning to visit again in the summer, and Las Posadas El Salto is where we will be staying!

Great Experience

The house had everything we needed. We cooked every night and there were plenty of spices and all the cookware we needed. The house was clean, and very cute. We got a foot of snow, and the property owner came over and plowed the road and driveway. He even cleared the snow from the jeep and deck area. I would definitely stay again.

Lovely house, excellent location

Our group of five adult skiers stayed at Jaimie's house as part of a ski vacation to Taos, a short 8 mile drive away. The house is bright & airy, well-equipped and in a rustic but accessible setting. We had our adolescent Welsh Springer with us, and she very much enjoyed romping through the lovely woodland adjacent to the property. We would absolutely stay again.

Ski trip

Family ski trip, with enough room for us all, including pets. Kitchen well stocked, convenient. Plenty of towels, comfortable furniture, pretty scenery, to name a few things we enjoyed. Beautiful view from upstairs bedroom. Plenty hot water. Only downfall is if we hadn’t had 4 wheel drive, we couldn’t have got up to the house after snow.

Incredible Chalet on the Mountainside!

We absolutely loved our stay at Las Posadas! It looked exactly like the pictures, if not better! The chalet was incredibly comfortable and had everything we needed provided. We arrived just before a snow storm, and unfortunately had a loss of power, but Jamie, the owner, came over and hooked up a generator to help until power returned. His communication and assistance was amazing! The location is close to Taos, close to the Ski Valley, but really in the "middle of nowhere" which is exactly what we were looking for! The views were amazing no matter where you look. We cannot wait to return to Las Posadas with family or friends for a summer vacation! Thank you Jamie for sharing your incredible home!

House in the mountains of Arroyo Seco, NM

This was our 4th visit to the Taos, NM area. We've stayed at different locations each time. This was by far our favorite. Pretty much hiking right out your backdoor. There are several varieties of hiking trails all over the Taos area. Many we wish to still get to one day. We've now been here in the spring, fall (2 times), and winter holiday time once. Love the dry heat, cool nights, and so many warm sunny days, and the AMAZING Snowcapped Mountain Views . Jaime is an excellent host. Always quick to reply to questions we had. As designers and builders from California and New Mexico. We finally found a place where we could create and build the Green/Eco type of structure that would compliment the beauty of the land. New mexico is so famous for allowing artisans to choose different materials and construction types. It just made sense to make this home in El Salto.

Why they chose this property

If you have the chance to read our reviews or if you are a seasoned Taos local, you will already know that this area of Taos called El Salto is the best place to live in the Taos valley. It is the most desirable and expensive real estate in Taos County.

What makes this property unique

As we have said.' El Salto is the best area in Taos'. The forest, the quiet, the deep snows in the winter and cool temps in the Summer make it so magical any time of year. Just ask any local about El Salto.
