Just don't order the 'Alferd Packer special'
You're going to love this little town of Littleton. Just 10 miles south of Downtown Denver, it's home to a handsome, red-brick main street straight out of the late 1800s, plus antique shops, independent businesses, and a cozy bar and restaurant scene. A Littleton vacation rental puts you within easy reach of parks, gardens, and museums, plus a wealth of outdoor activities. And if you're feeling really ghoulish, you can even visit the resting place of Alfred 'Alferd' Packer, a prospector who famously emerged from the Colorado mountains in 1874 having allegedly killed and eaten his comrades.
There's a lotta Littleton to discover
Got a green thumb and not afraid to use it? Hudson Gardens boasts 30 acres of botanical gardens along the bank of the South Platte river. Or if you're more of a cultural creature, the Town Hall Arts Center serves up comedies, musicals, and other theatrical productions throughout the year. To keep littler people entertained, the Littleton Museum is a sweet little local history museum with 2 working farms on site, while a macabre pilgrimage to the Alfred Packer gravesite will give you an opportunity to recount the tale of one of America's most bizarre folk figures, the "Colorado Cannibal."
The rocky road to... well, the Rockies
Littleton is a handful of miles south of Denver. Known as the "Mile High City," it's the highest major city in the US. It's up on the high plains, just east of the Rocky Mountains. Start driving west out of Littleton and it doesn't take long before you're starting to get into the foothills of the Rockies, which will be music to the ears of many. For wildlife watching, take a trip up into Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests, where you'll be in with a chance of seeing golden eagles, and animals including moose, elk, beaver, and pronghorn.
