About this property

Private & Cozy Farmhouse in New Hampshire

Escape to our relaxing farmhouse in a quiet corner of Charlestown, NH. Overlooking farm fields, old barns and the Connecticut River, this property is the perfect quiet getaway! The house is within walking distance of the river as well as downtown Charlestown. It is located between Claremont, NH and Keene, NH making it a great midway point to access both for shopping, area attractions and a number of ski resorts. Minutes from I-91. Come and make yourself at home in this private getaway!
The space
This is a large farm house that has been completely renovated in 2023/2024. It has many typical New England farmhouse features including handmade trim and wood floors throughout most of the rooms. There are two bedrooms, each with a queen bed. The living room couch doubles as a pull out full-size bed. Additional guests may stay, but sleeping arrangements would be up to you (there is a other couch and recliner downstairs). The kitchen is a great place to sit and visit with friends and family to share a meal or drinks. A Keurig coffee maker is supplied with some coffee to choose from. The laundry room has a washer and dryer as well as some washer detergent pods for your use. There are two bathrooms - one upstairs with a walk in shower and one downstairs with a shower/tub combo. The back yard is large and open with a swing set and picnic table. You might choose to pack a picnic and take it down by the river or to the end of the property overlooking the river. We hope you will enjoy this house and the surrounding property as much as we do!
Guest access
Enjoy the spacious back yard and feel free to walk down the roadway to the end of the property for beautiful views of the Connecticut River!

Sweet Spot
My son and I stayed overnight on a road trip from Maine to upstate NY. The farmhouse is absolutely lovely. Such a great combination of old charm and new convenience. Lots of space, comfy beds, stocked with everything we needed. Would like to come back for a longer stay to explore the area.

Great 2nd Stay
Awesome place and the hosts, Lindsay and Wes, are some of the best hosts we have had. Should you need them for anything, they are quick to respond. Very neat and clean, and the grounds are groomed quite nicely. Our first stay was very nice as well.

It was just perfect. Peaceful, scenic, spacious and great location. The extra bonus of seeing the animals really made this a memorable stay. Thank you again, we will definitely recommend to friends and family. Great price as well.

Comfortable Stay
Very nice and relaxing, my only suggestion would be to try to have the grass cut on a consistent basis so that whenever there are renters, the grass is groomed and you feel more comfortable walking around on the property.

Wonderful Stay in a Clean, Charming Farmhouse
We truly enjoyed our stay at the Heighter House! Nestled admits cornfields and sunflowers, the farmhouse is charming, comfortable and very clean! We loved the cozy towels and bedding, and the water pressure in the shower was amazing! Wish I had that pressure at home! It is easy to get to town and the river from this home. Thanks again, Wes! We will be back!

Farm living without the work!
Charming farmhouse just steps from the Connecticut River, which you can see from the porch. On a quiet country road with little traffic, yet steps to the conveniences of the village of Charlestown.

New Hampshire Farm House
A beautiful farm house with a great walking path to the river! Our dog loved morning walks to the river. Just a few suggestions for potential improvements. It would be great if the kitchen table could be updated to seat 4 people min comfortably. The legs and location make it uncomfortable. And the cabinet with the dishes and flatware next to the door is very far from the counter and sink, not an intuitive location. Opposite the sink would be an ideal location for that and the refrigerator. Also the couch is not full size so not comfortable if you are over 5’5” or so you cannot stretch out completely. Had we know that we would have brought an air mattress. There is ample space on the main floor for one.Overall a great home, kitchen was well appointed, the 2 beds were comfortable, and plenty of blankets provided. The decor is nice with cute pictures and photos from the farm.

heavenly
I enjoyed every aspect of my time at this lovely farmhouse in Vermont! The owners were friendly and very responsive to my inquiries. The house is homey, spotlessly clean, with a great kitchen set up, all I needed to make and enjoy my meals surrounded by beautiful views. It also has a comfy living room to hang out in, beautiful natural light and very comfortable beds. I particularly enjoyed the old porch swing in the mornings with my coffee and my sweet dog by my side. The nearby Connecticut river offered sweet waunderings and views. Thanks you, Wes and family, for this heavenly stay while I was up in VT for the total solar eclipse of 2024.

Idyllic Countryside setting ., peace and quiet
Absolutely a piece of heaven on earth. This rental is truly a rustic farmhouse of yesteryear with the updated modern conveniences we expect today. I could just imagine daily life there at this magnificent place. The original front porch was used more than anything while there. I wish everyone would get to experience the front porch New Hampshire summer mornings and evenings as we did while visiting our local family. The beds were comfortable a clean and welcomed after walks to the nearby river trails and having 2 bathrooms made our stay so convenient. We were close to stores but still private. There was convenient parking for unpacking and a flat terrain or walking. One troubling issue was blocked/dirty air conditioning unit filters and insects (mostly pesky moths, flies) flying around as well as many dead ones in the windowsills when we opened the windows for needed ventilation, But it is a countryside area with cattle and no screen doors so a part of the ‘real’ experience. Updated comfortable porch furniture would’ve been appreciated as I was worried about actually sitting the very old porch swings and rocking chairs. Our hosts were so accommodating. I unknowingly forgot my spare heart medication in a cabinet and they immediately contacted me and facilitated its retrieval by me (although it was a ‘Sunday’ they were busy working) also rejecting an offered tip. I appreciate their honesty and hospitality. . A great place to get away! We stayed
