This is not a standard Vrbo. This is a lovely home in a remote area beside a river.
The owners could not be better. They were available, but they were not at all intrusive. They made sure to alert us to a yellow Highwind day.
I am from a place with Highwinds, but I could not have anticipated the intensity of a yellow alert, and it would have been difficult and dangerous to drive, or to hike on exposed mountain trails .
The home has a cabin feel to it, but it has very modern infrastructure.
Do not come here to be loud, noisy and reckless because it is clearly someone’s home.
Come here to be in nature, to step away from your every day, busy life, and experience, equal parts, piece, and exhilaration.
The house itself is a beautiful wood cabin that is very clean and well kept. The jewel in its crown is its location, it has amazing views and a river a stones throw away. Loved it there
The property is just as listed. The cabin is located on a gravel road out on private property near a lake. The view was beautiful and although there are a couple other cabins nearby, they are basically invisible from the house. It was definitely the perfect cabin getaway.
Margrét was very responsive and helpful throughout our stay. Due to the location off a small road and through gravel roads, I recommend arriving before dark. Margrét provided excellent directions, however it was difficult to see the small roads in the dark.
If given the opportunity, I would stay at this cabin again.
Very nice cabin with a great view of the river and several glaciers and mountains
About 20 minutes from Borgarnes. Cabin was comfortable and convenient to many of the sites in the south/southwest area of Iceland. About 45 min to Snaefellsjokull Natl Park and other sites on the peninsula. Recommend stopping at a grocery store before getting to the cabin. Borgarnes has a Netto and Bonus store. Both good. Also, there are gas stations right in town.
We were a family of 5 adults and were comfortable. It would have been a bit crowded with more than 5 adults. Also, the road to the house from the highway is a bit rough. We had an all wheel drive SUV, so no issues. Otherwise, we enjoyed the stay and woould recommend this place as a base for seeing the sites on the south and east side of the island.
The views from this property and deck were beyond words. It was exactly what my family needed to relax in Iceland for a couple days. The host was extremely responsive and easy to communicate with. I greatly appreciated this property and would go back in a heartbeat!
We had a great stay at this house. Five guests - two adults and three children. Views are amazing. House is very comfortable with a large living room. Kids loved the hot tub. Hosts were responsive and accommodating.

Secluded beauty
The cottage was beautiful - so cozy and warm. We enjoyed using the sauna and the hot tub, and having a fire every night. And we had the opportunity to see the Northern Lights our very first night there! It was a dream come true. We hope to make it back there one day.

Perfect Vacation!
My husband and I stayed at this lodge for a week at the beginning of October. We loved it! The house was warm, inviting and clean. The surrounding and river were so beautiful - we didn't want to leave! We explored the Golden Circle, Snaefellsnes Peninsula, Reykjavik and the south coast (black beach) all using Margret's lodge as out home base. Coming back to the hot tub every evening was a job (we even witnessed the Aurora a few times)! Thank you for everything!

Total relaxation in the countryside
We had a lovely several days and were sad to leave. The home has a scenic location that serves as a good home base for exploring the region. Hot tub a wonderful plus after we got the temp figured out. Kitchen was well equipped. There were just two of us and we were quite comfortable, but a family would work well here too.

Perfect!
This place was so wonderful, and Margret and Fredrik are terrific hosts, very responsive and helpful.
My husband and I stayed here for four nights with one other couple. We loved the location, and loved coming back to it after a day of hiking, etc., to cook dinner and to enjoy the hot tub. The one rainy day we had was saved by the fact that we could hang out and enjoy the views: the horses across the way, the mountains in the distance.
The kitchen has everything you could need, including the quietest dishwasher.
We agreed, it was one of the best things about our trip to Iceland. (and we had plenty of wonderful experiences!)

Hidden gem
I cannot say enough about this property. The pictures don't do the home and setting justice! Located 15 minutes north of Borgarnes, it is the perfect location to explore the north western portion of Iceland. There are just too many sites to see, locations to visit and waterfalls to discover to list. We were within three 1/2 hours to Vik passing through Reykjavik ( 1 HR 20 min) , Selfoss ( 1 HR 45 min) etc. The house has all the amenities you would need for cooking to save $ on eating out. We were a family of 6 who fit in perfectly. There is a hot tub that was great for evenings after hiking and a sauna, although we didn't use it. The outdoor shower was perfect!!!
The wifi was strong and for $20 we signed up and used it all week long with no interruption.
the house is situated within a stones throw from a beautiful river with a farm and roaming horses across the way. Just really comfortable and scenic as well. Margret was very responsive to all communications and flexible on our check out allowing us to stay a bit longer on Saturday as we shuttled half our group back to the airport. Just really accommodating!!!
Shop at the Bonus in town and buy ALL of your alcohol at the duty free shop before leaving the airport. You will save 30%! No kidding with that....
Book this house, you will not regret it!!

Beautiful views, lovely cottage, great location
Our family (three generations) stayed for a week in this cottage. The cottage itself has everything you could want: beautiful and spacious views, a large deck and relaxing hot tub, and well-appointed inside. We also were extremely happy with the location: it's a charming, fairly secluded area but the nearby village of Borgarnes has everything you could need (groceries, wine/beer store, gas) and a swimming pool that we all really enjoyed (it has everything from waterslides to a little kid splash area to relaxing hot tubs, all with great views of the ocean and landscape). And, we could easily reach other interesting places. For example, we did a great little day trip to see the Hraunfossar waterfall and bathe in the geothermal pools at the Hotel Husafell. The owners were very welcoming and helped make our stay there a great success.

Comfy, Cozy Country Cabin
This cottage was the perfect retreat for our small group of three friends on our annual hiking and sightseeing pilgrimage. It's secluded riverside location offered a relaxing, homey place to return to at the end of our long daily excursions around the countryside each day. It's location in close proximity to the charming town of Borgarnes gave us access to all of our needs for food, gas, etc. This location just to the north of Reykjavik in western Iceland was a good starting point for travel to many of the most popular attractions in the country. We were able to easily head for many destinations in the southern and western areas, and as far north as the Westfjords without any problem. The home is very clean and well kept, and offers a modern kitchen and other ammenities that helped make our stay more comfortable and enjoyable. The views overlooking the river and mountains were both awe inspiring as well as relaxing. It was just perfect for us, and if what I've described resonates with you, then this property will more than satisfy and suit your needs. The owners were just fabulous and hospitable as well.

Truly Lovely
Our family (a dad, mom, granny, and 4 teens) truly enjoyed our stay at this lovely home. It was well-equipped with everything we could possibly need for our 4 days there. The owners were so friendly, helpful and promptly responsive to our needs. We enjoyed the beauty of the well-designed home and the exquisite setting with amazing views. The home was an oasis to return to after several long sight-seeing days in the area. We would return there in a heartbeat - both to enjoy the the property, as well as re-connect with the owners. Best wishes for your happy travels to Iceland!

beautiful, peaceful, comfortable and calm lodge with breathtaking view!
We had a wonderful time in your beautiful house! We are shure, that (perhaps) only a few houses around the world are situated as fantastic as yours! We have to come back in summer to see flora and fauna and try fishing down in the river!
The house is very comfortable, well heated, very good equipment in kitchen! The hot tub is with fresh warm water, so very clean and without any chemicals.
Description and introduction to the house were perfect.
The owner was exceptionally friendly! He also helped us dealing with personal problems such as a telephone conversation with the car rental company .
He also told us about the acutally weather situation and the strong storm . So we felt safe and secure!
I would heartly recommend this house! We recommend the house to all who love nature and are looking for tranquility and seclusion .
We would love to come back some day. Kind regards from switzerland. Alexandra

This is the perfect base! Everything you need for a successful family holiday in Iceland. Cosy cabin in peaceful surroundings. Imagine waking up to the sound of birds and the wind, having a cup of coffee at the veranda, horses and swans by the river. Lava mountains on the horizone. Having an outdoor shower and retrieving peace of mind in your own lovely Heitur Pottir. Iceland`s attractions waiting to be explored only minutes away. Luxurious lodge in stunning visual surroundings.
This was our first time to Iceland and we could not have chosen better accomodation. A family run chalet/lodge that is set in stunning surroundings. Beautifully kept, clean and provides every utensil and facilite required. Warm and friendly hosts gave us a great welcome and remained in touch if we required any help or information. We cannot express fully how impressed we were with both the accommodation, facilities and the scenery. We cannot wait to go back!!!
