Charming cottage on the Grand River. Peaceful, relaxing setting with so many choices how to spend your time from watching a movie on a big screen TV, kayaking in the river, cycling on a bike path and more.
This is a charming little home on the river. It is clean and well stocked. The host is super nice and helpful. If you stay during the winter, bring slippers as the floor gets cold. I was told about this in advance and was prepared.
We stayed at J's Place while visiting family in the Grand Rapids area. From the moment we met Mary Alice, we felt welcome and cared for. She is such a thoughtful host and this can be seen in the house and amenities. The house was spotless and bright and comfortable. We spent mornings and evenings relaxing by the river and enjoying the peace and quiet. Highly recommend!
J’s Place covers all the bases. First, it’s beautiful. The house, the view, being right on the river with two deck areas to enjoy…it’s perfect. The house is clean and has everything you need in terms of kitchen and bath supplies. A/C is exceptional. Everything in the house is so comfortable (especially the bed). The location easily gets you wherever you need in the area within 10-15 minutes. Mary is there if you need her but otherwise you won’t even know she’s around (and she’s one of the kindest people you’ll ever meet). Don’t hesitate. You’ll be so happy you picked this place.
We really enjoyed our weekend on the river at J's Place. In addition to a nice view of the Grand River, the space was clean, cozy, and had everything we needed to make a home away from home for a few days. Mary Alice is incredibly nice and made sure we had everything needed, especially when we faced bad weather! A great place all around.
We enjoyed two beautiful days at this relaxing and comfortable place. Awaiting us each morning is a beautiful view of the Grand River. It is also well stocked with the essentials to make it comfortable and homey. We plan to return in the future.
The owner went to great expense to upgrade this property including a new entertainment system a beautiful kitchen. The bathroom was small and you could not adjust the showerhead, they probably should replace that. The kitchen was great but the cooking pans and griddle we’re not good. Very convenient to Grand Rapids that’s why we stay there. The property next-door was a real eyesore, our owner tried their best to shield it with window shades. Mary Alice did a great job getting us settled in. We had two great dinners pizza at the Jolly pumpkin and a fancier dinner at butchers union
Loved the inside of Js place! The windows, the view and just the set up of the main area was perfect! Enjoyed both decks outside and Mary knows how to stock a place well!!!! She was fabulous! Great communication and quick to address any concerns immediately! Location was convenient for us.
I have been staying at J's place for 4 years now and Mary is the best host.. She makes sure you have everything you need the minute you walk in.. Looking forward to many more stays at J's place..
Enjoyed the stay at J's Place. Very nice space and a great view of the river. Super well-stocked kitchen. Comfortable bed. Host was very accommodating and communication was great. Definitely recommend.
Was in Grand Rapids for golf and very good location for that. Cabin in great shape and had everything you need. Would gladly rent again when in the area.
We stayed for 2 weeks and were very comfortable and loved the access to the river. It was the perfect size for two adults and close to shopping, highways etc.
This cottage is beautiful, freshly updated, very clean and right on the Grand River with a great balcony and dock. It is more spacious than it seems from the pictures, plenty of room for four adults.
Excellent location if you want to be close to Grand Rapids while enjoying a more laid back, less busy setting. Highly recommend Archival Brewing and Blue Water Grill for incredible food and drink in beautiful locations within a five minute drive. The home is also close to Oasis Hot Tub Gardens, a very clean and private hot tub spa that is excellent for relaxation.
Mary Alice is a great, very nice host. She lives next door and prefers to meet in-person for check in, but provides total privacy during your stay.
Please note, there is one bedroom and one bathroom. There is also a fold-out couch with a queen mattress in the living room, and the other couch is comfortable to sleep on if the fold-out is too soft for you.
Plenty of towels, linens and pillows provided.
I highly recommend this cottage and plan to return in the future.
This property is EXACTLY what we needed for a quiet weekend away!! Impeccably clean (and I’m a stickler for cleanliness!!). Loved the open concept and the deck…. Peacefulness wrapped up in a single spot!
Bed was very comfortable. Location is great near quaint towns and larger ones too. Will definitely be calling Mary Alice again!

Born and raised Michigander, and have lived in Grand Rapids for 30 years.
Why they chose this property
Oh my, where to begin? I knew the previous owner very well. His name was Red and he lived on this street for more than 50 years. I brought him Sunday dinner every week and we were good friends. After he passed away, the family agreed to sell me the home.
Little did I know what was in store for me!
We had it renovated in 2012 in order for it be move in ready. Almost immediately after the renovations were finished, we experienced the worst flood in 100 years. The entire house needed to be rebuilt from the inside out.
It was then that I realized I wanted to make this into a wonderful home for travelers and vacationers. Two years later we've created a custom home for travelers to enjoy this wonderful spot on the Grand River.
What makes this property unique
Location! This house has it's own piece of the river. It's absolutely perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. At night you can sit outside and stare up at the stars, and during the day you can feel the refreshing breeze off the water.
