We loved everything overall just no hot tub would have chose a different house if I had known before hand only cause we were doing hard work down this way and the hot tub would have helped us all

Great Place to Stay
Worked perfect for a large group and the view of the water can't be beat. Will stay again!
It's a charming house overlooking the Hood Canal. The views are amazing. The host was very gracious and the house was well appointed. We really enjoyed our visit!

Great site for groups to enjoy days of time together
Dive club enjoyed several days together for diving and social time.
Enjoyed the house with all the facilities needed and the separate 'Divers Inn' for all our diving needs.
Great location overlooking the Hood Canal, loved sitting on the deck watching the seals. Perfect location for hiking in the Olympic National Park. The home was very comfortable and a great hot tub for relaxing after a long day of hiking.
The house has a very unique layout but fit our family and the backyard was beautiful for pictures. The upper and lower decks are a great place to sit and see the view of the water. It’s a quick walk to town to get coffee and ice cream too!
We had a great stay at the yellow house. The beds were comfortable and there was lots of space (the basement especially was bigger than expected!). We made a small fire outside and enjoyed the hot tub after a rainy hike. The well-stocked pantry made it feel like home. And a beautiful view to top it all off!
House was clean and had plenty of beds for all 13 of us. Best experience was getting to see 3 orcas swimming in front of the house.
Everyone was nice to deal with.
Don’t hesitate and book this place. The views were amazing and the house had everything. Walking distance from local restaurants and stores. It was so clean and cozy we did not want to leave! There were seals every morning on the floating dock out front (have to get up at 5am though). We can’t wait to visit again.
There are so many outdoor activities to do here in this area and yet we all seemed to enjoy just spending time together here at the yellow house. The ice cream shop is incredible the Market is fabulous and dinning on the dock of the Mexican restaurant were all walkable for myself and my family. I must admit it was a very enjoyable place to relax and experience the essence of the Hood Canal. Hoodsport is a gem. This property is perfectly located close to the town with shops and services.
Our group consisted of 5 kids between the ages of 3 and 7 years of age. 3 sets of parents and grand parents. we entertained visitors and enjoyed the front porch, the back patio, the fire pit on the side of the house and the kids had a ball foraging for tiny rock crabs and other sea life.
Happy to stay again excellent spaces
We enjoyed our time at the Yellow House. The home was well stocked and cared for. Great detail was put into hosting a large group---plenty of seating areas, serving utensils/small kitchen appliances/ect. A beautiful view and we enjoyed walking the beach area. We had a group of 12 celebrating Mom's 70th birthday. This was the first time my husband's siblings have all been together for a vacation like this in 25+ years. Everyong love the house and area. We hope to come back!
Had another lovely 4th of July at the Yellow House with friends and family. Plenty of room for all to spread out, from watching movies to playing games. They even allowed us to hold a small wedding on the lawn. Hate to say good things as I want to keep it a secret! Darnell is a great host and always quick to respond.
This house is directly across the road from the Hood Canal. The road was busy, but we had a pretty view of the water. The house was clean and equipped with several kitchen tools and several staples such as kitchen seasonings. The house was smaller than we expected from the picture(several small rooms), but there were plenty of sleeping spaces. I

Amazing as always!!!
This was our now third time at the "Yellow House" and it has become our yearly summer getaway trip. We had an amazing time here as always with the amazing view, the great back porch with a hot tub, fire pit and separate grills for Oysters and other things to grill and the generous amount of sleeping space inside the house. We spent the weekend there and left feeling like we wanted to stay the rest of the week. We are already looking forward to going next year! Such a great place for a large group and I highly recommend this place. I wish I could give it more than five stars! Thanks again as always!

Liked: Cleanliness, location, listing accuracy
Disliked: Check-in, communication
great place
Very spacious and well equipped. Clean and comfortable. Great views and places to relax. Some troubles with wifi connections. Only real problem was with the door code. Numbers on lock are in groupings that don't easily match the code we were given. Owner needs to explain that puzzle more clearly as we could not get in at first and weren't immediately able to reach anyone to exlani the mystery.

Best place to stay for a dive trip to Hood Canal
The house is well equipped and super comfy. Large flat screen TVs, lots of DVDs, great kitchen, great dining area for the group to sit together and talk about the day's diving. An extremely well designed dive shed with place for at least 10 divers to gear up, a heated drying room for the gear, a hot tub, the list goes on and on and on.
Oh, and there is a really nice dive park right in front of the house (currently with a GPO and a wolf eel in residence), and many other of the Hood Canal Western Shore highlight dive sites are close by (e.g. Sund Rock). The local dive shop is literally within walking distance. It's simply perfect for divers.
The owner is amazing to work with - all I can say is that I LOVE this place. Can't wait to be back.

Great Family Place
We had a great family reunion July 1-7, 2018. Plenty of space for everyone and the yellow house was very accommodating and well equipped. Weather was fantastic and we enjoyed the sea lion hanging out on the swim platform. I will mention that a little TLC is probably in order. Beds were pretty uncomfortable (not very high quality mattresses) and a few things like toaster and BBQ grill were not functioning properly. Plus I'm not sure how well the place was cleaned before we got there. Trash cans were full, there were mounds of laundry downstairs and tons of food in the fridge that we had to move, sort through or trash. None of this really affected our stay negatively but I expected better. Would probably stay again if we were out that way but would check for availability of other places first.
We really loved staying at the yellow house and would do it again without hesitation. At the beginning of our stay we had a little trouble figuring out how to get things to turn on and we got very low on toilet paper but all questions were eventually answered pretty quickly and when I texted the owner he was able to tell me how to access the extra toilet paper they had on site. It was a very nice house and the view was amazing. We were able to see some seals resting on the diving platform across the street through the window while we were in the house. The hot tub was great too and was used many times each day. My only complaint would be that in the information about the house I thought it said Alexa would be able to answer all our questions but that was not the case at all for any of the questions we had. I would suggest updating that book they have telling you things about the house and the area to make it clearer

Great place after entrance difficulty
My family did really enjoy this spot, as a comfortable, spacious place for a reunion of family from Alaska, Missouri, and Turkey gathered for a wedding in Union. Cooked hotdogs out over the fire, enjoyed the porches and plenty of space for folks to visit in smaller groups. The only glitch: We hadn't been informed on an entry code: was told via owner email that it "would be unlocked." Nephew arrived exhausted from Missouri, and couldn't get in! The Dive Shop was closed. After leaving messages/texts at 3 different places (we didn't have direct phone # for the owner), someone did finally call him with the code. VRBO/Homeaway made it very difficult to have direct contact with the owner--and the website was no help at all. I wouldn't do another VRBO without having owner/caretaker's direct phone number IN ADVANCE. The "good old days" of VRBO seem much less workable now that it's Expedia/HomeAway.
The property is ideally located, full stocked and offers plenty of room. The downfall for us was that the basement was damp and had strong smells of mold and mildew. We, had come from a ways away and did not want to turn around, our kids were very excited and wanted to go for it regardless. Unfortunately we could not complete our two night stay because one of our kids had a strong reaction to the mildew. It was pretty bad and we should not have attempted to stay. I checked to see if there was a refund available assuming this was out of the ordinary because of previous reviews, but I was told that they had the basement tested and it passed inspection and they have a no-refund policy.
Not sure if this was an aberration, but its a problem. At least for us. Only one kid had a physical reaction, but everything that spent the night in the basement, including people continues to have very strong smells of mildew after being gone for a day and multiple showers.
I hope they get this taken care of, it has a lot to offer if they can dry out and clean up.

Fabulous Place To Stay!
Every summer we hold a large Friendunion and always stay in a vacation rental. This place had everything we needed for our large group - a lot of parking, everyone had a bed (this is surprisingly difficult to find), multiple bathrooms, lots of towels... I could go on but those amenities are all listed. The house was big, had all kinds of stuff to make you feel at home, had a nicely stocked pantry from previous visitors, the hottub was very nice as well. Everything was maintained and clean and I got no complaints from my guests about the beds or really anything other than the traffic going by into town.
What really made this experience fabulous was the view of the Sound. The large front porch was great and our group played musical chairs with the super comfy outdoor rocking chairs. We saw seals bobbing around in the water. Some saw orca spouts. On the last couple of days we saw a river otter with a couple of pups playing on the dock. We picked enough blackberries (luckily before a deer visited them) from just the bushes around the parking area to make a blackberry crumble large enough to satisfy our large group.
The location is pretty much perfect for a quick maybe 5-minute walk into town for ice cream or to check out those cute little shops. The location was perfect for quick, and not so quick, day trips and berry hunting.
One more note I would like to mention. We left our large camera's tripod at the house and the owner took the time to mail it back to us with super fast shipping. Communication with the owner was always fast and quite pleasant. The entire experience was great!
It was great to have so much room in the basement for the kids. I will say it smelled very musty down there. I understand that being on water means that conditions are trickier to manage, but another dehumidifier or two down there would probably help. There is one tucked way back in the laundry room but it really doesn't do much for the rest of the downstairs. The stairs going down are super steep, almost like a ladder rather than stairs. There is an outside door that goes down there so if anyone has issues with mobility and can do regular stairs, they can go out and around. The road is extremely busy and we were a bit nervous with the kids going across to go down by the water. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out, though, and we enjoyed the view and the sea lions on the raft in the early morning. There are jellyfish and crabs in the water so they were fun to watch. We were hoping to see some bioluminescence, but weren't able to stir any up from the shore. I'm guessing we maybe needed kayaks to go out on. There was a lot of food left behind from other guests, much of which was expired. There was a large box of cider packets downstairs that expired in 2019, so might be worth it for the hosts to go through all that and toss it. The little Camp beds and cubbies in the basement were perfect for the kids to each have their own space but still feel like they were all together. Overall a nice place to stay. Lots of silverware and dishes. Thanks for your hospitality!

Why they chose this property
The canal is unique BEYOND the diving it is a great location at the foot of the Olympic mountains. The house is located north of Shelton but less than an hour from Olympia, Washington. You can choose to go hiking, kayaking, crabbing, fishing, golfing or relaxing at a local casino, all within an hours drive. It is the perfect place to get away, without having to drive for hours. You are able to change your mind or plans with little effort. Most everyone in your group can be accommodated. This property has been a popular scuba diving destination for over 20 years. It is within just a few hours of Seattle and Portland Oregon. The hood canal is known world wide for its large pacific octopus, seals, occasional resident Orcas, Wolf Eels, Crab, squid etc...
What makes this property unique
The house was a farmhouse built sometime in the 1900's (?) so the locals say. Nobody knows for sure. We did have a guest who was 90 years old. She said she lived in the house when she was 10 years old, when her family ran it as a traveler's boarding house. The house still boasts its unique character - cedar walls, long front porch and a barn on site. The house is solid wood on the upper floors. When you first walk in you see the exposed cedar ceiling and wood floors. We have updated the property to modern conveniences, without losing the charm of the 1920's farmhouse. The windows are updated vinyl but were built to replace the original wood windows with leaded glass. You get the charm of an old farmhouse by the water with modern day conveniences.
We have outfitted the home with unique ALEXA devices. They won't record conversations or learn your specific quirks. BUT we have been able to program in answers to questions about the property and surrounding activities.
