Beyond Incredible!

My husband and I spent three wonderful weeks at this property during October 2018. We love Maine and we try to visit every year. Last year we discovered South Portland and Willard Beach. We fell in love with this property last year from its description and the many raving guest reviews, however our schedule did not work out to rent the property. This year we were determined to inquire early in order to rent the home and we are so fortunate we did. The house is charming and well furnished. The owner, Marilys, has tastefully decorated the rooms with a variety of collectibles and comfortable furniture. Marilys, is excellent in communicating and insuring that all our questions were answered in advance and during our stay. She provides very detailed information about the house and surrounding area. The day we arrived, a freshly baked Bundt cake was waiting for us. Marilys toured us around the house pointing out features and important information. Each room in the house is beautifully decorated, and the bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. The linens and towels are luxurious. The house is impeccably clean, and the kitchen is well equipped for cooks of all skill levels. Marilys has toys and games for children and baby items available for families with young children. Sipping coffee in the morning or enjoying a glass of wine in the afternoon while sitting outside on the beautiful patio watching the lobster boats, sailboats and even cruise boats pass by is a real treat. The sea breezes are refreshing and calming. A gas burning fireplace inside the home takes the chill off a cold day. We can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay. Even our rescue boxer, Buddy, had a great time. There are plenty of doggie day care facilities in the Portland area if you need your pet to have play time. Our favorite was Roscoe’s Bed and Bark and we also liked Mutty Paws. Willard Beach is also pet friendly but certain restrictions do apply (leash laws) at certain times of the year. The neighborhood is quiet, and the neighbors are very friendly. The home is convenient for walking to the beach. There is also a walking/bike path called the Greenbelt Walkway. There are wonderful restaurants in South Portland and Portland. Marilys has provided a comprehensive guide of where to eat and many things to do during your stay.

My husband and I spent a week at the lovely cottage. The owner, Marilys met us on our arrival to show us the house which was very helpful. She also left a wonderful chocolate cake from our favorite stop, The Scratch Bakery. The house had everything we needed and the most wonderful king size bed It was a very short walk from the house to beach We loved all the added touches, the fresh cut flowers in the rooms Beautiful week, beautiful home

The perfect home away from home

The owner’s communication before we booked the property was extremely helpful: she sent more pictures, informed us about baby items, and in general we knew she was/is passionate about her rental. We stayed 2 weeks at this property. Home called, but we didnt want to leave. If location is your hearts desire for a beach and water vacation, this property is definitely for your family: sunbathe, read, collect seaglass, toss balls in the water for your dog, walk, climb on the playground, wade in the tidal pools or watch the ships come and go from Fisherman’s Point. The cottage was perfect for 3 adults and 3 small children. Why? Because we were up and down to and from the beach a lot!! You can almost hear the Willard Beach waves at high tide...almost. The bedrooms are a generous size with a king in 2 of the bedrooms and a double and twin in the 3rd. There’s only one bathroom upstairs which was just fine because one adult used the powder room , except to shower. The kitchen is stocked with everything you might need, want, or dream of wanting. The patio is delightful for meals, hors d’oeuvres, conversation and watching the sail boats in the channel. The dining room table is huge for large parties. It’s a cottage with lots of charm, modern conveniences, and wonderful ocean views. The property was very clean upon arrival. The owner greeted us and answered all of our questions . Willard Beach is close to Ferry Beach, Higgins and Crescent Beaches. We highly recommend this cottage.

A true Maine cottage in great location

Simple elegance, in a quiet neighborhood that's very close to Portland & other destinations (must go to Higgins Beach). My family of 4 stayed only a few days, but could have easily stayed longer. The pictures are true & correct, and the house shows very well. All bedrooms are reasonably spacious, and the one full bath is fully updated. Both the kitchen & half bath on 1st fl are also fully updated. Marilys, our host, was an excellent communicator and took care of all our needs - she even had a wonderful bunt cake fresh from the oven for us when we arrived. There are also kayaks & bikes available, all in very good condition. And plenty of beach chairs are available, so no need to bring your own. Willard beach is just down the street, and there's plenty of food options very close by (including the requisite ice cream shop!) - though Portland (with nearly unlimited food options) is a 5 min car ride. I think our favorite spot was the patio, with the flowers all in bloom and the nice sea breeze reminding you where you are. This is a thoughtfully decorated and well cared for house that invites you to make yourself at home immediately. Nicely done, Marilys & Robert! If you're looking for a true Maine cottage experience, that's not so far from civilization that you must drive everywhere, this is your place. We'll be back.

Lovely beach cottage!

Really enjoyed our stay here! Our group consisted of my husband and me, our daughter and her husband, two very small children, and a small dog. Marilyn had everything ready for us including two high chairs, two pack n plays, and even dog towels! The house is cutely decorated, like a remodeled beach house you might see on HGTV. Very comfortable with TWO king size beds. The best part was the quick walk to Willard Beach, which various ones of us would visit multiple times per day. Also nearby and an easy walk was the fabulous Scratch Bakery and Scoops ice cream. Marilyn provided us a guide to the whole Portland/Cape Elizabeth area, including supermarkets, restaurants, and nearby attractions. Her suggestions were spot-on. We also texted her with questions a couple of times and she replied immediately. Very responsive host; she obviously takes pride in the property and keeping her guests happy. Thank you, Marilyn! We hope to return.

Home Away From Home!!

My daughter and I recently spent a lovely week in this cottage and we couldn't have been more pleased with the accommodations or the location! It surpassed everything that we hoped for. The home itself was picture perfect. From the beautifully landscaped gardens, to the perfectly appointed kitchen and the ultimately comfortable beds. ......we couldn't have hoped for anything better. We arrived rather late in the day and found the house perfectly presented with a fire welcoming us in the fireplace on a cool spring day. After a very long trip, it was a delight! We found the recommendations for local foods credible but we did add a few of our own as well! David's 388 in South Portland is a jewel that you absolutely must try! It is close to the house and the food is to die for!! I highly recommend the crispy duck! For a breakfast selection, we suggest 158 Pickett Street Cafe in South Portland near the campus of the local community college. Nearby is also a great lighthouse and beach for checking out! We would also suggest for dinner the Saltwater Grille in South Portland. The views of the marina are to die for at sunset and the mussels are something to write home about!! All in all it was the perfect mother /daughter weekend in the perfect location. I would highly recommend this property on Willard Beach! Such a beautiful, quiet relaxing spot on the Maine coast. Close to Portland but not too far from everything else!!! Thank you Marilys for sharing your beautiful home with us for this short time!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely cottage. Cannot say enough about it~the owner has thought of everything! It is beautifully decorated. Quaint Maine cottage near Willard Beach

The house was everything it states in the description and more. We got there late in the evening and the owner had left the gas fireplace on for us. So welcoming! Marilys was wonderful to work with and had a ton of information for things to do around the house. The beach is very close by and the neighborhood is very quiet and nice. We look forward to coming back!

Waterside cozy retreat!

This place is such a gem! Immaculately clean, yet so homey and accommodating. The kitchen is very well stocked with everything we needed (especially with 2 young kids) and the dining and living area has exceeded expectations. The water view from the couch with the added ambiance of the most realistic and warm gas fireplace make for the perfect Hygge experience. The beds are the most comfortable I've ever slept in (and again, water views from bed!) I even emailed the owner to ask her exactly what the mattress, topper, and comforter situation was!) The house is perfectly located for a quick walk to Willard beach or to any of the great amenities nearby like Scratch Baking company. Overall I could not recommend this place more. From the host, to the location, views and beds, everything was 100%.

Charming cottage and great hospitality

We could not have had a lovelier stay. The cottage is adorable and perfectly decorated. We arrived to a raoring fire and a freshly baked cake! It just got better from there. Walks on the beach (first time our dog ran free on a beach and in the ocean, it was a delight to watch her) and cozy evenings having dinners prepared in the gorgeous kitchen. Add to this beautiful bed linens and piles of soft white towels! We will definitely be back.

Lovely, warm and comfortable cottage

This was such a wonderful cottage. It truly felt like a home throughout the stay. It was cozy, comfortable and had such a warmth to it. Marilys is a great host and made every effort to make the stay as welcoming as possible. Our puppy stayed with us for the weekend as well and Marilys was very accommodating with him too. He felt right at home! The neighborhood around the cottage is lovely too. You are surrounded by beautiful homes and nice neighbors, and right along the ocean. It was so nice to sit at the table in the morning and drink coffee with a beautiful view of the water! And Portland Head Light is about 1.5 miles away and is a great walk or run there and back (3 miles in total). Thanks for a great stay!

Fabulous summer stay in cozy Willard Beach cottage

My husband, adult daughter and I adored our stay in this charming cottage by the sea. Marilys could not have been nicer or more accessible. She answered every question, made wonderful recommendations for where to eat, and even baked us a cake to welcome us to this wonderful home. We loved the garden, firepit and huge outdoor table with umbrella, where we had breakfast every day. We totally adored the big fluffy beds, the fully equipped kitchen (even including coffee for the coffee maker!) and the plethora of beach towels and giant bath towels. Everything about this was magical, and we can't wait to return.

Homey cottage close to beach and Portland

The cottage worked out well for our family group. Willard Beach and the terrific Scratch Bakery are within walking distance and the many delights of Portland are just a short drive across the Casco Bay Bridge. In nearby Cape Elizabeth are some great hiking trails. The kitchen is spacious and well-equipped, the beds are comfy, and the fire pit on the patio is perfect if evenings get chilly. Highly recommended.

House just as described

The Willard Beach cottage was absolutely perfect for our needs. We especially loved that we could all sit together for our family meals - the dining room table comfortably seats 8. On Saturday the weather cleared and we were able to enjoy the beautiful yard and have our granddaughter's birthday celebration outside. My grandchildren loved their room and having their own space. The South Portland location was perfect - quick ride into Portland and close to Cape Elizabeth's magnificent Ft. Williams and Two-lights parks (and the amazing lobster rolls). Although the weather was a bit cool, we were able to walk down to Willard Beach. We also have become huge fans of Scratch bagels and the ice cream from Willard Scoops.

Amazing house and location

We absolutely LOVED this beach cottage! The cottage was super clean, bright, sunny, comfortable, and tastefully decorated. We were truly a very short walk to the beach which worked out very well for our toddler. He had the time of his life looking at the crabs and ducks, learning how to skip rocks and hunting for sea shells. It was so convenient to be back at the house within a couple of minutes without having to pack up the car and transport of wet little boy. The cottage is less than 10 minutes to Portland as well. We could not have asked for a better option. Our host was extremely easy to work with, kind, and provided us with an awesome guide to the house and the surrounding area. We had a lovely trip!

Perfectly quaint South Portland cottage!

My family and I just returned from a marvelous week in South Portland and loved calling Marilys' cottage "home". We were welcomed by Marilys (and her delicious, chocolate, mini-muffins) who showed us around her beautiful home. It was a perfect fit for our family - my husband, our three children and my parents. The kitchen is new and fully stocked with everything you could possibly need and the dining room and living room are comfortable and inviting. The gas fireplace offered a nice touch on the cool evenings, too. My kids loved the claw foot tub in the upstairs bathroom and the shower was also roomy and refreshing. Each of the bedrooms were well decorated and inviting - two king rooms that fit my husband and me and my parents perfectly and the smaller room that my kids shared with a full and single bed. We all agreed that the beds and bedding were the most comfortable we've ever slept in! We were extremely lucky that the weather was on our side and we were able to visit the beach up the street with our kids and our dog. Marilys provided us with numerous restaurant recommendations in South Portland and Portland and all were wonderful. We had the best time and will definitely return.

Charming Cottage in Beautiful South Portland!

My family of four stayed at this property while visiting colleges in the area. The cottage is absolutely inviting, charming, cozy and had everything we needed. Marilys went above and beyond what could be expected to help us know where to eat and explore and to make us feel welcome. We arrived on our first night, after a terrible drive through pouring rain from New Hampshire, to a cottage that smelled like baked cookies, with a roaring fire in the fireplace and goodies on the counter from the local bakery! The cottage is very close to the beach and has spectacular views. We would highly recommend this property!!

Beautiful house and great location with water views. A bit of a long ride into Portland considering that we were Uber-ing back and forth (15 minutes or so) but we knew that going in. 8 adults easily shared this house and we all had a great time. Marilys was very responsive as well.

Cozy cottage for family and friends!

My wife and I stayed at this lovely cottage in South Portland in January while visiting our daughter who lives in Portland. The house was clean, with a vey nice, up to date kitchen, a comfortable living room with a fireplace (which came in handy since the temp got down to 6 degrees one morning). The Danish have a word for a place that is beyond cozy, "Hygge". This house tucked into a beautiful neighborhood a short walk from Willard beach is Hygge!

After buying our first and second vacation homes, we began looking for the perfect third vacation rental home to offer our guests and we searched for the perfect home for over 3 years! We wanted to find a home that we could downsize into when our kids are on their own and make that home available as a vacation home for the next 10 years until that time. We finally found our dream retirement home and are pleased to offer it to you, our guests!

Why they chose this property

This property was described to us months before it went on the market, at a time when we were considering placing offers on other neighborhood homes. Based on what we had heard abut this property, we reluctantly passed on other beautiful homes, holding out for this one to finally come to market. We have been so thankful every day since buying it and can not believe our good fortune in being the party selected to buy this special home among the many other offers the buyers received within two days of the home being listed for sale.

We fell in love with this home the minute we turned the corner and saw it from the outside. There is a very magical quality about this home that immediately cast a spell upon us as we walked down the stone path and through the lush and beautiful English gardens, towards the cottage. It is difficult to describe the special feeling you have when you approach this home through the beautiful "secret gardens" that you walk thru to reach the cottage, seeing the ocean on the other side. I love watching my guests experience this. Once inside, you can immediately see why the former owners had described the property as their "slice of heaven", and knew we had to make this home our own.

What makes this property unique

This property has the most amazing energy. There is a special "magical", happy vibe that everyone notices as they enter this home. You just don't want to leave! Although the happy feeling of this house is hard to pinpoint, exactly, there are certain elements that do not come through in the ad that do contribute to this. The views are better than they appear in the photos and you can see the ocean from more places in the house than what is depicted in the ad. The ocean is also closer to the house than appears in the photos. There us is a sunny quality about the home that is not particularly reflected in the photos, as taking photos of a sunny room can be quite a challenge. The floor plan is very welcoming--it's one of those homes that gives you a hug when you walk in. Taking a bath underneath the huge window is amazing! My teenage daughter likes that you can actually get a suntan while taking a bath--the sun streams in that brightly. All I can say is that it is the "happiest" house I have ever owned and we will never part with this house. It will be in our family forever. It's a house that you never, ever want to leave or part with.

This home also has a stone path adjacent to it which leads you to Willard Beach and Fisherman's Point--a gorgeous grassy knoll which we had been visiting for years. From Fisherman's Point, you can see while away the hours and enjoy the ever-changing scene of the Portland Shipping Channel and the Islands of Casco Bay. In any given hour, you may see cruise ships, freighters, tug boats, ferry boats, schooners and every other type of vessel pass by. It's a very special spot, from where you can enjoy interesting and beautiful views of the islands across the narrow shipping channel, in addition to two WWII forts and beautiful Willard Beach.
