Not clean, black mold, lack of maintenance
Exterior of property is nice, as is the town and beach area, and that's about it. The interior pictures do not match the current state (June 2022). The master bathroom had black mold with faint attempts to clean but only smeared it, clear neglect in cleaning is evident as a simple wipe of a napkin cleans some of the mold off, shower heads were full of slime and mold. The house had many visible scuffs and signs of wear. Master bath sheets were stained (blood?). Kitchen was in neglect, there was a burnt piece of bread left in oven, the fridge smelled pretty bad like it had not been plugged in for a long time. hot tub water was cloudy and did not look appealing. The linens in the house were in poor condition.
Although the property owner was very flexible with check-in due to road block protests at the time, ultimately he lacked professionalism in his handling of this situation. he justified the property is in a rain forest and hard to keep mold away, but that is an unacceptable excuse to deviate from advertised pictures. We agreed that I would only stay (and pay) 1 of the 3 nights and would be refunded the rest, I also refused to pay the cleaning fee since we pretty much cleaned the property to a better state than we found it. The property owner did not refund any of the agreed to funds. VRBO said it was up to me and the owner to decide refunds and payment settlement washing their hands off the transaction. I reported to my credit card fraud dept as a material non-compliance, and only paid the credit card the agreed to amount of one night.
The property has potential, and I'm sure it was nice at one point as the pictures show. It was unfortunate to have my first bad experience with a VRBO and a property.
