A Beautiful Home in an Awesome Location

Crocodile House is perfectly situated on the south side to enjoy all that Roatán has to offer. We were able to get to the touristy destinations at the West End on the paved road, as well as traverse the uncrowded beauty to the east. Our only difficulty in traveling around came about because our extended stay coincided with the end of the island's rainy season. The mostly unpaved roads are muddy, slippery and potholed when they're wet! Rent a four-wheel-drive vehicle from Joshua; you won't be sorry. We found the best way to travel was by sea; the owners provided kayaks for our use during our stay. Croc House sits right on First Bight so it's convenient to launch. The Bight is beautiful for a few hours on the water, exploring the mangroves with their wealth of birds, insects and reptiles. We found that the biggest reptiles, the crocs, quickly swam away from us, and we never felt threatened by them. Heading out of the Bight to sea, you can spend an entire day going East to Fantasy Island, and Little French Key, both beautiful to kayak around. To the West, you can explore Second Bight and beyond. Many times we simply tied up our kayaks to one of several buoys just outside the Bight, and jumped into the water to snorkel. I cannot stress enough how beautiful the reef is right there! The fish are numerous and colorful, but the coral itself steals the show. There are so many varieties, shapes and colors, all vibrant and alive. We never tired of swimming there, and it truly was calmer and clearer than anywhere else we snorkeled on the island. We had everything we needed for our stay provided at Crocodile House. In over five weeks, we only dined out a handful of times. The kitchen is well-stocked, and even on those rainy afternoons, we could hang out on the covered decks and play with the board games and puzzles. The property managers, Kevin and Claire, were very helpful in meeting us at the airport, leading us to the grocery store, and then on to the house where they showed us the intricacies of accessing the internet, the laundry room, trash removal and all the other basics. They were always available to answer questions, and their restaurant recommendations were spot on. This was our first time visiting Roatán, and Crocodile House was the perfect place to call home while we were there. Enjoy your visit!

Croc House

The property was the same as the pictures. Very clean and well kept. We really appreciated the help we received from both Lyle and Dave. Thanks so much you guys you really went above and beyond. The only thing I would suggest for anyone staying anywhere tropical BUG SPRAY. Although I'm a bit more susceptible to the little critters my friends didn't seem to get bitten like I did. The place was great, neighbours were great I would highly recommend a stay there. Thanks again guys. Jim

About the host

Lyle and Mary reside in Pittsburgh PA and began visiting the island of Roatan in 2011. Their friends have a home in the First Bight neighborhood and they were drawn to the island for its great scuba diving. After visiting the island several times, meeting the locals and getting accustomed to "island living", they decided to take the plunge and purchase their own piece of paradise.

Why they chose this property

We love our new Crocodile House! It gives us the combination of check off items that we desired:
water access with a tremendous view, yet high enough above the water to enjoy the trade winds.
It is also centrally located on the island, in the quiet residential area of First Bight.

What makes this property unique

Nature abounds in our little corner of First Bight. It is a bird lovers paradise. We have seen flocks of parrots squawking loudly overhead, herons flying low over the water and osprey joining them. We have woodpeckers, geckos, iguanas, butterflies and hummingbirds! There are several bats nesting in our front patio rafters and loads of crabs close to the mangroves. We are the last home on the road which affords us privacy and tranquility throughout the day.
