Quiet and cozy cabin

We stayed here while visiting Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. The cabin was in a perfect location for our visit and provided a comfortable and quiet retreat during our evenings. It's an older cabin but was very clean and cozy! We would absolutely stay here again.

Cozy cabin in which to create fantastic family memories

We had such a great time! The wood stove, fabulous art and trinkets, and easy communication with the host added up to make our Thanksgiving trip to Sequoia and Kings Canyon NP the best possible. Thank you Mahalia and Bachrun LoMele!

Fantastic Stay

Our family of 5 stayed as we toured the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks for 3 nights. The cabin is adorable! We loved it and the space it provided for all of us! It was super close to the park entrance, and that was a huge plus! Mahalia was a great host letting us know of any issues- such as a road closing and the wild fire that happened to happen the same time we were there. Great communication!

Charming place very close to Kings Canyon / Sequoia National Parks

Quaint place a short (windy) drive to the Kings Canyon entrance. Lots of room. No dishwasher, but otherwise the kitchen had just about anything you would need including spices, condiments, etc. The host was quick to respond when we had any questions or issues. Be aware there are is a small step between the living area and the bedroom area along with a couple steps down to enter the bathroom. The host has small lights on the steps which was much appreciated when making our way around at night.

Immediately felt at home

The cabin was perfect for our family and bigger than I expected. It has a great location near the parks. But the thing I most appreciated was how much at home we felt. Unlike the sterile, minimalist design trends of today, it was like stepping into a cozy friend or relative's house. We were surrounded by a lifetime's worth of collectibles, art, and an ecclectic assortment of books. We also had an opportunity to meet the owner, which it usually not an option in the impersonal world of rentals these days. Five stars!

Cozy Relaxing Cabin

We had a wonderful stay at this cozy cabin. The location for visiting Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon is great. The owners were very relaxed and accommodating. My daughter enjoyed playing the piano on the front porch which was surprisingly well tuned for being outdoors. Well stocked house with board games and kitchen supplies. Enough space for our family of five. If you are uncomfortable on mountain roads, 245 is challenging. I would arrive via Dunlap or Dry Creek Road instead.

This was totally awesome!!!

Mahalia’s home in the woods was great!! We all loved the house and all the homey touches ( art, books, wood burning stove, bathtub!). We had all we needed and truly enjoyed our time. We would love to come back in the future. The proximity to the SEKI parks was superb. A great time was had by my family. Thanks again Mahalia!!!

Sequoia fires

We came to this property just as the fires closed Sequoia Nat. park. Smoke from the fire was heavy in the area and affected everything we did. Mahalia came to our rescue and brought air purifiers to the house and extra N95 masks. She also offered to cancel our reservation with a full refund. We decided to stay and were still able to visit Kings Canyon before it closed. It was a very charming house and a very gracious host.

Cute little 2 and a half bedroom 1 bath property about 25 minutes outside of Kings Canyon National Park. Quite peaceful with only a little traffic noise from the highway. No TV which was a nice reprieve. Fully stocked kitchen and outdoor bbq and sitting area. Great stay!

Last minute get away

Our host, Mahalia, was super helpful with great communications and coordination of our stay. The accommodations was accurate as it described on Vrbo. The location is ideal for our preferences: 1. We want a quiet but yet safe cabin away from the crowds. The cabin is strategically located only 20 minutes drive from the King Canyon entrance 2. We want to explore both Parks within the 3 days we have in the park. We were able to accomplish most of the points of interest and one good hiking trial in the parks for our stay. It will be an great location if you do not mind to drive a little bit and stay outside of the park and the crowds. It does get a little hot during summer. The cabin has no AC but has 3 fans and a water cooling fan to down the house at night. It also has a whole house fan to keep the circulation going. The ā€œhouse guideā€ provides very useful and detailed instructions on the best way to cool down the house. They recommend to open all the windows at night. It works nicely along with the fans provided. One observation I have is that a few of the window screens have holes so the tiny bugs may get into the house. I have young kids so it presents a slight challenge for them. However, not a big deal since we are living in the nature. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the cabin and would recommend it.

Bachrun and I have lived in Pinehurst since 2003. We opened Fivespot Cabin to the public in 2008, and Merrynook in 2016. Former New Yorkers, we have adjusted to the rural, mountain life without abandoning the arts we love (music and visual art). Come see us!

Why they chose this property

Pinehurst was a flourishing logging community for decades. The Pinehurst Lodge, a short walk from Merrynook, is a locally-owned and operated restaurant in a 100-year-old former sawmill.

Cedarbrook, an early-20th century cabin community built by Mennonite families from nearby Reedley around a lovely year round stream, is a 10 minute walk away. Other nearby historical logging sites are Neff's Camp and Millwood.

Today, small cabins used as summer homes, rentals, and by full-time residents, are scattered throughout the forest. Pinehurst's year-round population is around 350.

What makes this property unique

This is a cabin for exploring books, art, even for exploring the piano on the front porch. Merrynook is conducive to deep relaxing and taking care of yourself, family, and friends. Just chill out without your phone (although there's wi-fi if you have to!), and get back in touch with your simpler life.
