The water view from the cottage is amazing. We enjoyed a bonfire out back. We could not adjust the heat properly but each bedroom has individual heaters and we built a fire in the fireplace. No need to over pack for your stay. All essentials for cooking were provided.
We loved staying in the red house! It was very clean and had everything we required for a comfortable stay. Much loved the fire pit and sitting out there in the evenings with a glass of wine watching the freighters sail by. We will stay again!!
Great views, great swimming, great location and a lovely house to boot! The property was perfect and we spent most of our time just enjoying the place. The house was clean and the kitchen was well stocked with pans etc. Would certainly rent it again!
Definitely can’t beat the view! We have stayed here several times and always love our stay! Overall pleased with the property! I would highly suggest a filtration/softener system to improve the smell and taste of the well water the house has.
Perfect location for a relaxing weekend waking up to gorgeous sunrises and ending the day with bonfires and the sounds of Lake Huron. Peter was prompt, helpful and generous in addressing a concern that came up.
We stayed here for an end of summer vacation. The views make the place and spotting the passing freighters. 5 min from town. It was a very quiet place. Please note beach access is shared so neighbors will pass through the yard to reach the beach.
Combined this location with the Log House next door for a reunion. The cabin has lots of room, is well cared for, and has a wonderful beach and shore line. This was our second stay here on and the family was unanimous in its praise and desire to meet again at this property.
Great family time by the lake! We will definitely be back again in the future. All amenities are great, from the grill to the new sectional in the family room! More seating! And upgraded kitchen ware! Thank you for providing a nice experience.
We rented the red cottage along with the log cabin to host a small wedding. Everything was perfect and both houses made for plenty of room for our 30 guests to sleep comfortably. Will definitely be returning to this property!
We stayed here for our family vacation, and the location was perfect. It’s a short walk to the private beach, and the water is fantastic. The host had kayaks and other water equipment for us to use. The only reason I gave it a four on cleanliness is because there were a lot of bugs, especially dead ones, in the windows, and the water in the shower and sink had a strong iron smell. But that’s what you get with well water. Nothing that came close to ruining our time there.
We stayed at this cottage a few years ago and we were happy at that time. Peter continues to make positive improvements to his cottage and it is even nicer now. We will not hesitate to book this beautiful cottage again.

Beautiful property — but the house is quirky
The views of Lake Huron were absolutely gorgeous and access to the lake was easy. Be aware that the stairs to the lake are not the access point — there is a path just beyond it.
The house itself is quirky — so if you’re more concerned with the house than the view, you may want to find another property. The windows don’t appear to have been washed in quite some time and both porches were unclean. The gazebo — which has the potential to be the property’s showcase, is pretty rundown with a door nearly off the hinge and quite a few mouse inhabitants. Also quirky — you have to put the sheets on the bed yourself when you arrive.
We enjoyed our time there, but would not likely return.I rated it as high as I did because the view is spectacular.

Relaxation Disappointment
Found dirty dishes and silverware in the kitchen cabinets. Microwave and dishwasher did not work well. Would have been nice to know that there was construction going on next door before booking as my 84 yr old mother and 2 dogs did not like the noises. Construction crew showed up at 7 am. 😒 Also, not aware that I would have to make beds. I have a bad back. Did not feel that the property was worth what we paid for relaxation other than the view. The view was amazing.
cabinets. Microwave and dishwasher
The property worked perfectly for our group of 10, ranging in age from 6 years old to 89 years old. Our stay was only two nights, however had been longer,(with10 women) the one bathroom might have posed a problem. The ground were very nice and place is equipped with everything you need to be comfortable.
While the house was as listed, there were some issues. The property was not able to be locked. One upstairs bedroom was either sweltering or freezing. Bedroom screens had holes. Beach access should have been provided; I had to ask. No sheets on the beds upon arrival.
The overall space was as described. Plenty of sleeping space, kitchen well stocked. The outside area was great, the view spectacular. There was a fenced in yard for the dogs.
Despite these concerns, we were able to have a good family vacation.
I don’t presume to know how difficult it is to own a property and rent it out to strangers who may or may not treat the place respectfully.
That being said, I have used VRBO quite extensively, both in the US and abroad, for approximately the past decade.
PROS
House and property itself is nice and what you would expect of a cabin.
Dog friendly.
The view by the water is gorgeous.
The house is set back far away from the busy road so you definitely feel like you are in nature.
The fenced in yard for the dogs is a huge bonus.
The two beds we slept in were comfortable.
The kitchen was well-stocked with kitchenware (utensils, plates, pots/pans, etc.)
CONS
No welcome packet or written materials from owner. Only communication from owner was via VRBO confirmation e-mail, with note from owner giving the wi-fi name and password, and a stern warning to not reset the router or risk losing internet the duration of the stay.
Ironically, the information provided for wi-fi and password were both incorrect. Correct information was found on the manufacturer sticker on the back of the modem.
The wi-fi speed is slow like dial-up. Cell phone coverage (Verizon, Boost) is spotty here.
Maybe it was due to COVID, but other than the toilet paper already on the dispenser, there was no additional toilet paper.
None of the sheets were on the (approximately 9) beds—just a coverlet atop a mattress (with mattress protector). Guest is expected to put on the sheets.
Only two adult bathing towels — one of which we fortunately located within the dryer.
Well water tastes like heavy metals. Be prepared to rely on bottled water to drink.
