We (10 adults, 4 children) arrived in sunshine, and, a week later, after more than we had dared hope in late October, left in the same glorious conditions! Our stay at Villa Artemis was very successful; the house is ideal for large family groups, with plenty of areas for groups to be doing individual activities (on the rare occasion when we were actually in the house) and in a marvellous area of the Peloponnese for exploration.
Christopher provided us with excellent directions to find the house and we soon got used to negotiating the track down to the villa! The villa was clean and well stocked with equipment and utensils, comfortable beds and plenty of seating; both indoors and outdoors.
The pool is stunning! Despite being somewhat 'fresh' in temperature when compared to the limpid waters of The Med below, we all spent time playing volleyball, diving for rings and doing lengths in the clear, clean water.
The walk down to the sea is a delight, first through the olive grove and then through the lemon and lime trees (picking some of the latter for the G&Ts later!) - calling out for Henry (the resident peacock) and then across the little road to the beach. If you are lucky, Nikos, a local fisherman of some repute, may be unloading his catch from his early morning trip, and, after some negotiation, voilà!, you have your supper sorted!
Do visit Poros, Nafplio, Aegina, Methana and, of course, the magnificent amphitheatre at Epidavros. Our favourite taverna was 'Jimmy's' in Vathi nearby where we ate a wonderful meal and were treated to a delicious pudding 'on the house'.
This is authentic Greece, where English is rarely spoken, but where, with plenty of smiles, hand gestures and good humour, you can buy huge bags of the juiciest oranges at the side of the road, you can negotiate your way around the most incomprehensible menu, and make friends.
I'd recommend Villa Artemis as a perfect place to stay in this wonderful area - the view from the terrace, overlooking the Aegean sea and the mountains beyond is never the same, from one day to the next, and every time you look, the view is breathtaking.
