Quiet Cabin Getaway

Great Cabin fairly close to the center of town. Kitchen had everythig we needed, the extra board games, pool table and game table left plenty to do even if we stayed in. Host was very responsive and accomodating. Yard was great for the dogs to run around in.

Fun Mountain Home

Fun property for a guys getaway. Fully appointed open kitchen that gives way to a nice living room with fireplace. Had fun with the pool table. Each room has a queen bed. Third bed is a downgrade for that person because loft is difficult to get in and out of. Hottub is nice and where property is located is ideal. I would stay here again!

Upscale lodge

Had a great time with 3 other friends there. Even after idyllwild closes the house has a hot tub, pool table, games, etc to keep you busy. Lots of room for everyone including two front decks and a large back deck. Home is nicely done and accommodating for anyone.

Beautiful home in a private setting

We were six friends and two dogs and we had an amazing time hiking in the mountains and hanging out around the house. There was a beautiful trail within walking distance. The house had a great kitchen and game room and felt very private. We loved to just sit out on the deck and look at the view.

I could not have picked a better location to celebrate my birthday. I’m incredibly tentative to travel/stay out of town on special occasions, but John made sure this was an amazing experience all the way through and I will most definitely be coming back. Thank you so much John!

Wonderful place.

we were a group of four and two of us were recovering from surgeries so steps were a little bit tough for one of us, however; this property itself is gorgeous and the view from the patio is wonderful. We had no issue during the stay and I liked the location, as well. The property is very pet friendly but it was kept very clean. The play area with a pool table and some other table games was really fun to have. Jacuzzi in the backyard was such a great bonus. Thank you so much for a great stay at your cabin.

Great mountain escape

My family and I had a great time in Idyllwild and this cabin. The kids loved climbing and exploring the fenced back yard as well as the dogs. Everything we needed was there at the cabin and the family can’t wait to go back. Hiking trails and nature center were literally a minute drive away. Pool table, dart board, card table and the spa were great and we had fun using all of them including some of the board games. John was very responsive and easy to get a hold of, we hope to go back soon.

Beautiful house and total seclusion

This was our second stay at this property. The place is awesome! Big house, looks even bigger in person. Very modern, great fireplace and kitchen. Really close to Deer springs which has great hikes. Endless fun to be had in the rental from games to pool table. The best part personally is the seclusion. The back yard is totally private and you feel alone with the starts while soaking in the hot tub. I would definitely stay here again. The owner John is great and very responsive. Good times!

Perfect place to get snowed in!

This place has all the amenities. Perched up on the side of mountain away from the streets makes it the perfect hidden luxury lodge in a great location. Nice to find a pet friendly lodge too. Our dogs loved the property too. You'd never tell any pets were there at all, it was very clean. Warm and inviting from when we first walked in the door. Excellent views from all directions especially from the livingroom window and upstairs balcony. The center of town offers great food, friendly people, and interesting shops. If there is any chance of snow or freezing temps, make sure you bring chains. The main roads were plowed and de-iced, the lower roads where we parked were plowed but very icy. Our rear wheel drive Beemer almost didn't make it out of there until most of te ice melted!

Nice getaway for up to 6

We enjoyed this home as a group of 6 active adults. Overall kitchen was well stocked (but needed some silicone spatulas and hot mits), beds were comfortable. Loft is up a wall ladder. Futon was very comfortable, exposed outside the upstairs bedroom. Loved the game room area and hot tub in the cold at night. Stairs to/from are steep and upper drive was inaccessible due to snow drifts from previous plowing, but that isn't much less steep, and slippery. Main outdoor stairs and decking are going to need some repairs this summer... Parking below is on the street (one parking spot for the home). Will tow if need to plow for snow.

Nice Home .. Great Vacation

A party of 8 : 2 families - 4 adults and 4 children, visited Idyllwild for 3 night/4 days and stayed at this home ... The home was convenient and comfortable and we enjoyed our stay. The location of the home of very peaceful and convenient - close to the village and to various trails. While it was generally not a problem for us ... A couple of things to be aware of ... Be Aware that the stairs and walkway up to the home could be strenuous for older people ... Be aware that the spiral staircase to upstairs inside home, again, could be a problem for older people and a safety hazard for younger children ... Be aware that the railing at the upstairs loft (game room/area) is a bit short and "flimsy" Make sure you use the Hot Tub, if you like, before/by 6PM-7PM, otherwise, you will have to keep bugs for company :) Keep those in mind ... Otherwise, It is a nice place to stay and nicely appointed.

Great home for the family

Five of us, plus our dog spent 3 nights at Eagle Rest Lodge and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The kitchen and living areas were a large open space that allowed everyone to be together, and still have space. The kitchen had all the little things you would want - spices, condiments, utensils, coffee/espresso maker, etc. The beds and sheets were cozy and comfortable. There were even dog bowls and toys! The only con was my dog wouldn't walk up the spiral staircase, so we had to either carry her upstairs or walk her around the outside, and the yard outside wasn't quite fully fenced in. But, other than that the house was great for us. We even had a casino night upstairs, playing blackjack, pool and making drinks. We were there until Christmas Eve, and they had decorated with a tree and lights. It was very welcoming.

Better than expected

Beautiful property, the pictures can't do it justice. Many things (including the kitchen and upstairs bathroom are so nicely and newly renovated). Kitchen is stocked with every utensil you'd need to prepare a meal. There is a spice rack and some food items you can help yourself to. The spa is amazing. The AC system is awesome. Playing pool upstairs was great with all the pool-related bar accessories. Especially if you are from the city, like we are, this is a great place to just get away and feel secluded, and the great thing is, it's an easy several mile drive into town. The only things I'd recommend for this cabin: get cable for all of the TVs in the house. The front room had about 6 basic cable channels, the bedroom TVs had none. They all had DVD players, though the downstairs one didn't seem to work. Also, upstairs there's a boom box, perhaps upgrade that to a radio with an AUX cable to plug in an MP3 player; the music is fantastic to listen to while playing pool or while in the spa. Also, my boyfriend and I are not early risers, so the skylight in the upper bedroom was a bit blinding, so we moved downstairs. Overall, this cabin was fantastic and we would definitely stay here again. I have already recommended it to friends and we just got back a couple days ago.

Beautiful place

Rent. This. House. Just beautiful; I highly recommend it. It was clean, quiet, and very tastefully decorated (I don't usually even care about that). The kitchen and appliances are outstanding; everything you would need. I didn't even need to use the knives I brought, theirs were great! The beds are comfortable and there were tons of towels. My only issue (and it was my problem) was that the yard is not fully fenced in. I chose not to ask about that because I really wanted to stay there. Unfortunately, I have an adventure-seeking dog and she figured out how to get around the boulders and go exploring. I think she's part goat. I had brought a long rope, so I just tied her up, which was a bummer for her. Also, you can only reach the backyard via the upstairs, which is a spiral staircase; albeit very wide. She wouldn't go up the staircase, so I had to scramble up the retaining wall on the side; we're both too old for that. A suggestion: a little table on the front deck would be a nice addition. Just a gorgeous place and I will recommend it to friends. Thank you so much for sharing your lovely home! Oh - and there are 49!!!! Steps up to the front door!!! Yikes!

Good for family and friends

Friends and family of 6 adults, 2 kids, and 2 dogs - we spent Memorial day weekend at the Lodge. The house was big enough for all of us, we could have fit 2 more people if we wanted to HOWEVER there is no privacy in the house... The ONLY private room is the one downstairs, all others are opened, even the master bedroom! My daughter and her friend took the mattress on the loft and totally unexpectedly peeked into our bedroom. Kitchen really has everything you need and it comes from someone who cooks and bakes a lot. We did NOT go out to eat the whole weekend, prepared everything in the nice, very modern kitchen. Unfortunately the BBQ didn't seem to work, first we had to fill up the gas, then it still took more than an hour to make it work. Luckily we had 2 very resourceful man with us so they made it work however the regulator needs to be changed on it for it work well. Backyard was not taken care of as I expected from the pictures however it was still great to have the nature (huge rocks and trees) right by the bedroom door. Jacuzzi looked awesome in the backyard but it wasn't clean and it didn't warm up good enough even after an hour of waiting. Game room was super with a bar and a pool (billiard) table, games and even a popcorn machine :-) Some of us didn't leave the Lodge the whole weekend, just relaxed or played games and some of us went for hiking. Dogs - had bowls, blankets for the dogs however the place is NOT fenced in a 100% so we could not let the dogs out to the backyard without heavy supervision and believe me....the dogs wanted to be outside in the nature, exploring soooooo much they didn't even let us sleep. lol. Overall, we had a great weekend.

Perfect weekend getaway

The minute I arrived at Eagle Rest Lodge, I was so impressed. The photos look beautiful, but they don't even do the home justice. That tells you something. I went with 5 other people, all couples all in their mid twenties to mid thirties. We all live in Los Angeles and wanted a snowy getaway without committing to overcrowded and pricy Big Bear. It was the perfect setup, one couple was delighted to take the loft (basically a cozy, grown up fort) and the other two rooms had plenty of space, bathroom space was also definitely not an issue. Some great features: -So many areas to see gorgeous views! There's a wet bar upstairs with a pool table, popcorn machine and darts and the back yard with hot tub is directly outside that area. Then theres another couple areas as well that would be perfect to sit outside and have breakfast or read a book with view of the mountains. -People spoke highly of the kitchen and theres a reason. There's plenty of space for cooking and just open space in general. You can tell this guy made sure everything was top quality. -The hot tub. So crucial. You'd be surprised by how many hot tubs are advertised for rentals but don't actually heat up at all. *A helpful hint: make sure it doesn't go into Eco mode. All of a sudden the hot tub stopped heating. Once we realized that mode was the problem, we temporarily switched if off and it stayed at a delightful 100 degrees with no problems. There is no greater combination than hot tubs and snow. -Great customer service. I wanted to find out if we could do a late checkout and it was no problem, we were able to leave at 2 pm which allowed for a relaxing morning. Honestly, every issue I saw on the reviews I didn't find to be a problem/it was very clearly stated. I had no issues with the cleanliness and I would expect to bring logs and other necessary needs for the fireplace. Just pick it up at Home Depot before you arrive to save you some costs from the nearby grocery store. Yes, the bedroom sun roof is bright. That's in the description, not a surprise. To those who complained about dog hair: Its stated multiple times that this cabin is dog friendly. As a dog owner myself, you can't get every speck of fur out of every crevice of a two story house. It's just not realistic. I probably sound like a paid advertiser, but this really is such an amazing home to stay at. I've started doing annual trips to Idyllwild and I can't see any reason to not return to this lodge every year.

About the host

Hosted by JOHN RINALDI

Host profile image
We live in San Diego and love to hike. Owning a home in Idyllwild has been a dream since I first visited the mountain 18 years ago. The home is a dream! It is beautifully appointed, newly remodeled from top to bottom and enjoys lots of privacy and seclusion.

Why they chose this property

The last owners remodeled the home with love and utilized many of the same materials used in my primary home like slate floors, the moment I walked in the home I knew this was the house!

What makes this property unique

I love views and being up high. The home features large decks in the front and in the back and is quiet and serene. It is a first class home with many fine touches. The unique wood carvings, the large lava rock fireplace reaching to the ceiling, a backyard surrounded by granite rocks, all of these things captured my heart.
