Wow, really. A Beautiful, Pristine Island Playground
We visited with 18 women in a reunion of sorts and found the scenery just breathtaking. We so enjoyed the enormous trees, colorful wildflowers, and rocky coastline. The property itself was so fun to explore. The island trails, with places along the way to rest and take in the Acadia forest and Castine views, would make a wonderful romantic setting (were I not visiting with 17 other women!). We were amused entirely with the variety of things to do (tennis, hot-tubing, swinging, kayaking, visiting the chickens, etc.) besides the hiking and watching five-star sunsets you would expect.
The house, completely repainted inside and refurnished in more modern tastes than these pictures, functioned well for us. Well thought out gathering places for large groups, comfortable beds, brand new TVs also enhanced our stay. (Although I would say the occupancy estimate of 20 would include a few kiddos as there is a set of bunk beds.)
Lobster bake at the boathouse! What a unique place for a party and the view from the dock ...picture perfect. We got a kick out of the lights and enormous moose head. Our host even treated us to a small band there as a surprise!
A huge thank-you to our warm , welcoming caretakers who accommodated gluten-free and non-red meat eating members of our party with healthy delicious meal options. Callan also made Maine blueberry pancakes with syrup from the island trees and lobster rolls that were just as fabulous as they sound. She and Daniel entertained us with knowledge of the island and its history.
Food from MarKel's Bakehouse…delicious. We also enjoyed a beer at Dennett’s while our party arrived. Our five minute boat ride left from the wharf near there in Castine.
Great place for a vacation/reunion with old friends. And we thought even our teenagers would enjoy it too!
