Peaceful cabin

This cabin is located near Portland and has easy access to multiple places in Maine. The beauty is you feel you are secluded and away from the city. The property is quiet, beautiful and peaceful. The host was great and quick to respond.

Beautuful and peaceful

We recently rented the lodge and it was lovely. The grounds at the lodge were beautiful, peaceful and rustic.... exactly what we were looking for. A great place to stay out of the hubbub of central Portland. John couldn't have been any more hospitable. Clean, roomy and just overall pleasantly enjoyable. Thank you John!

Perfect Short Stay

My wife and I traveled from Pennsylvania via motorcycle to attend a Memorial for my husband's childhood friend. When we arrived we were greeted by the owners, John and Julie. They welcomed us into their very cute and charming guest wing, showed us all around inside. We found out we were the first to stay with them. The house was very clean, well-stocked, located in a pleasant area. We greatly appreciated their hospitality and the nice sympathy card. Lenny's pub is just a short walk and well worth it with delicious food and live music. Wish we could have stayed longer and got to know John and Julie more. They seemed to be around our age and just very nice people! We highly recommend their guest wing, you won't be disappointed. Tom & Chris

Perfect place to stay while visiting Portland, ME

This was the prefect place to stay while exploring the Portland, ME area. The owners are so nice and have thought of everything you might need to have a comfortable stay. The kitchen is very well stocked. We cooked breakfast and dinner each night, and had lunch while out and about during the day. It is on the most peaceful property and we were glad we chose to stay in this cabin instead of in a hotel room in quaint, but noisy, Portland. We met people who were staying in downtown Portland and they complained about the noise. The cabin is a large 1/1, with an open concept kitchen/dining/living area. Fullsize appliances, gas stove, bagel toaster... There is a large screen TV with a ton of channels. Really, we lacked for nothing in this place. John and Julie were above and beyond helpful when we were trying to get to our next leg of our vacation and hit a slight transportation snag. There is so much to see and do in Portland, which was only about a 15 minute drive from the cabin. The grocery store is only about 5-7 minutes away. We did a Lobster Crawl on a Foodie Tour that was great fun, informative and delicious. We attended a play at a local theater, which was just outstanding (the play was about the life of Billie Holiday.) We did our own pub crawl, sampling many local brews. We also hiked in the Bradbury Mountain State Park. The shopping is fantastic, with lots of unique shops. Don't miss the Holy Donut shop - unbelievable handmade donuts. Try the Maple Bacon Donut! We would definitely stay here in the future.

Location beautiful but not the privacy we were looking for.

The location of this rental is very nice, however if you are renting this you should know a few things before doing so. 1) Your bedroom is directly on the other side of the owners living room door. This did not make my boyfriend and I comfortable at all. We are not bed and breakfast people because we prefer more privacy. Also, I specifically rented this property due to having a Jacuzzi. I have rented several other rentals in the past from VRBO that have had this amenity and after a day of vacationing, hiking, etc. that is how we like to unwind. I was told upon arriving that the pool/Jacuzzi closes at 7pm. It confused me this wasn't listed anywhere and that it had not been brought up previously as several emails were exchanged before putting a deposit down on this property and I found it very odd that this had never been discussed. I am lucky if I eat dinner by 7pm so when was I ever going to have time to use this before it closes. Needless to say we left that night and stayed at a hotel where we had privacy and where we could use the Jacuzzi until 11pm. Maybe this rental would work for some as "like I said," it was a beautiful place, it just wasn't what we were looking for unfortunately the only thing that was refunded to me was the cleaning deposit which was a costly lesson to learn. We still managed to enjoy our vacation I just didn't want it to go without mentioning these things as I read reviews and wish someone would have made me aware and I wouldn't have wasted my money. Maine is gorgeous though and I recommend it to anyone. We had a great vacation despite this bump in the road.

This is such a perfect place! Close to airport and downtown Portland!! Extremely relaxing an quiet.

Probably one of the cleanest rentals we have ever stayed in. Everything we needed kitchen was also well equipped. We headed out daily to a new adventure. Five Islands Lobster house, cabbage island clam bake,Kennybuckport, Cgonquait, and Becky’s diner among many other places just a delightful trip. John is very knowledgeable and helpful. Thanks for everything.

4 Night Get Away

The property is lovely, the accommodations very clean and all the needed amenities were provided. The place is quite adorable, but not for 4 adults. The pullout sofa was not comfortable for 2 adults and we had to use 2 blow up mattresses for 3 of the 4 nights, which were in the way during the daytime. There is no air conditioning, and only two windows in the living room and two in the bedroom, that open. No cross ventilation, and no ceiling fans to keep air flow. So it was very hot and stuffy. Cooler temps would have been welcomed. Also, I would recommend that the homeowner do something to improve the lighting in the place, because it is very dark, daytime and evening. When my son came over in the evening to visit (he's 46 years old), the homeowner came out to the bonfire and wanted to know who the "extra people" were and then he informed us we had to let him know before we had any visitors......it put a damper on the time away, which we were so looking forward to. We were also told to turn down the fire, which was well within the confines of the firepit. We are 4 adult women in our 60's who certainly are capable of handling a firepit, after checking a water source, just in case! I highly recommend this place for two adults, and maybe one small child.

Maine getaway

House was very clean and comfortable, very well appointed, and close enough to all we wanted to do. John was a gracious host and very responsive to minor questions. Would definitely return for a stay as it’s close to my son and much nicer than a hotel room. Thanks.

My boyfriend and I stayed at John’s for July 4th weekend. The place was exactly as listed - super cute, spotlessly clean, very quiet, and we just loved it. It was our first time in Portland, Maine and we would definitely return and stay at John’s. He is also an excellent host and great communicator. Thanks so much, John!

Amazingly Well Appointed House

We have stayed in homeaway properties all over the world and this cabin was by far the most comfortable place we have ever stayed in. Everything possible amenity you could want for a stay in Maine was accounted for. The kitchen was amazing- including frosted beer glasses, wine and champagne glasses, ice packs, utensils, spices and snacks. Every where you look the owners have provided for what you could need. Extra towels, toiletries , plenty of light and storage. An enormous TV with cable, fire pit, picnic table. If you can think of it, it is there for you in the house. The cabin is very coxy and charming as well. If you stay here, I promise you won't be disappointed. It is a real find!!

Location and Privacy

We loved staying at this cabin. It was beautiful, clean, and came with everything you could possibly need during a vacation. It was only 20 minutes from Portland, making it a convenient spot to get to all the city has to offer, while still getting to stay in a beautiful, quiet, and private location. While we were there, the property manager stayed in a secluded part of the property and never bothered us while we were there (we never even saw him and enjoyed the privacy and feeling as if we had the place to ourselves). I’d say the only negative part of our experience was the lack of communication in the beginning. We were originally told we could check in between 3pm and 7pm. We told the property manager we would check in around 4:30, but since we were traveling from far away, our time of arrival got pushed back to 5:15 due to stopping for bathrooms, food, gas, etc. We thought this would be fine since it was still WELL before the 7pm check in deadline, but we got a pretty harsh response from the landlord telling us that we better be there by 5:15 SHARP... this worried us greatly because we weren’t sure if that would be how the rest of our stay would go, but for the most part, it was fine thereafter.
