A place to stay where time slowed down and where we knew we were away. A home that is immersed in nature while offering more accommodations than we needed. Simply Lovely!

Awesome Hideaway

Very peaceful place with a lot of privacy. The outdoor shower was wonderful, pics represented the home precisely. Enjoyed coffee on the lanai while watching the chickens scurry about the property. The cats were fans of all the petting and so fun to feed them while away from our own. Each and every thing was as described in listing. Don’t miss this special hideaway.

Enchanting Rain Forest Hide Away

We were more than pleased with the Rain Forest Hide Away. The accommodations exceeded our expectations. We stayed in a high priced resort our first night on the island. This Rain Forest Hide Away put the high priced resort to shame.

Cabin in the jungle

It’s a very nice location, peaceful, chicken and pigs running around, also a cat, it has lots of birds, the frogs at night can be quite load and hard to get use to, but overall, very 😊

Beautiful tropical setting

This house had everything we needed for out stay. We enjoyed the beautiful tropical landscaping. Very private setting, with large wrap around lanai. My only negative comment is that the living room furniture was not very comfortable.

Too wonderful for words

Hard to describe how amazing our time was at the Puna rainforest hideway. So charming. Love the nature and animals. The chickens are a riot and sweet feral cat, plus the occasional pig spotting. We had looked forward for years to staying at this cottage and it exceeded all expectations. Sorry we missed seeing Connie. -- Ethan and Rebecca

Heavenly

We miss it already! We cannot say enough good things. We needed this: nature, indoor/outdoor living, getting away from busy lives. We truly slowed down. The outdoor shower under the stars, the fresh fruits in abundance on the property, the farm life feel, everything about it was magical. Mahalo nui loa to you dear Connie and Andrew for sharing this space with us!

Fantastic

The pictures don’t do it justice: it’s even better than it looks!! Calm, clean, beautiful inside and out. Absolutely everything you need (except your food) is available. Plenty of linens, beach towels, happy little things to make your stay great. LOVED the jungle/animal sounds throughout the day. Extremely relaxing…wonderful when it rains. Outside shower is the best….and even clean (no mold or yucky-ness despite being outside). Connie made herself available though we had no problems and didn’t need her.

Absolutely Amazing

I can’t even begin to tell you how spiritual, restful and wonderful it was staying at the Enchanted Rainforest Hideaway! Connie and Andrew were the best hosts ever! The Hideaway is absolutely beautiful, well stocked and private!! Connie met me upon arrival and reviewed everything with me. It is the most restful place I have ever stayed in on a trip. The coqui frogs are very soothing to listen to as you fall into your slumber every night. There is a little black cat, that I think lives next door and visits often. The landscaping is beautiful, and the home is set back from the street with a secure gate for privacy. Connie was so kind during the review of the property and then I didn’t need anything because of her and Andrew’s attention to detail. The Hideaway is beautifully decorated and comfortable. There is a washer and dryer, microwave, coffee pot, dishes…. everything you need. I love the outdoor shower and even used it in the middle of the night when I had to get to the airport for a very early departure. This place was exactly what I needed to check out of life, rest, reflect and rejuvenate! I will definitely be coming back. I didn’t want to leave when it was time to come home. Thank you Connie and Andrew for all your kindness, hospitality and Aloha spirit! Mahalo Nui

Tasteful, comfortable, and well-equipped

We spent ten days here, and it felt like home. The decor is tasteful, the space is clean, and the property is well-maintained. The living room is more like a screened porch, which makes it a perfect place for relaxing. The claw toothed bathtub became a favorite spot of mine. Also very relaxing. The kitchen had everything I would want and more. The description was totally accurate (there really are mosquitoes, but our hosts provided both spray and salve). Proximity to the Hilo and Keaau farmers markets made cooking really fun. The location is great -- we went into Hilo often but went to Volcano National Park even more frequently. We hiked along the Saddle Road, also incredibly convenient. Our hosts were accommodating, warm and friendly. We had a great stay.

Beautiful Hawaii in a Very Magical Way

This was a very new way to experience Hawaii - this magical little house in the middle of the rainforest. Imagine, you are sitting in your living room and still have the full camping experience (without the bugs) - here it is possible, because there are no glass windows just fly-screens. I can get quite loud though with the coqui frogs, but for us that just added to the whole jungle feel. The house is well equipped, and individually decorated. It's a special place that reflects the love and care the owners invested in it - thanks again Connie and Andrew! The shower in the garden is a great place to start the day of wash off the dust and sweat of a long day. The location is great for exploring this side of the island: You can explore Puna, north of Hilo, Vulcano and the National Park - it's all within one hour drive. We can recommand the place wholeheartedly!

Fabulous rental.

This was our second time at this rental, and we plan to come again. That place is fabulous. In a superb tropical garden, with complete privacy, the house is very pleasant and nicely furnished, with taste. The owners are nice. The neighborhood is quiet. Almost no noise, except the birds, the frogs and the roosters. Highest recommendation. It can rain a lot (this is Hilo!) but this time (6 nights) it did not rain much.

Incredible jungle lodge!

There’s not enough space to write about how marvelous this place was! Upon arrival Jody was there to give us a tour of the house. She was kind & knowledgeable & responsive if we had an inquiry about the house or the island. The house itself is gorgeous & very peaceful. The unique open air (screened) walls let in all the sounds of the jungle including birds and coqui frogs (my personal favorite). The rooster on the property was only mildly annoying crowing once at 4:30am. 😏 However the lodge was never too hot with the breeze from the windows & ceiling fans. Mosquitos abound but the mosquito net over the bed was perfect & bug spray & making sure no doors were open kept them out of the house. The bed itself was very comfortable & the extra fluffy blanket was cozy. There were gorgeous fresh flowers in every room & the decor was lovely. The futon had a charging station & the couch was super comfy for lounging. Wifi worked great also! The kitchen I mean wow! LOVED the Mexican feel of the furnishings & the gas stove cooked every meal perfectly. We used the lighter to light the burners for easier startup. There was TONS of goodies in the kitchen too like seasonings, coffee & tea, condiments, oil, even peanut butter & jelly & box of chocolates! Fully stocked kitchen w/literally everything! Even flashlights we used when we visited the active volcano at night (a must see for sure!) The bathroom was also fully stocked! Everything you can think of was there including sunscreen, lotion, body wash, shampoo/conditioner, q-tips, cotton rounds, you name it! The claw foot tub was heavenly & the outdoor shower was one of my favorite parts. Water pressure throughout the house was fantastic & the hot water was great! There’s even a little filter for water by the kitchen sink. The water was delicious & sweet! The jungle kitty on the property was precious & we fed her twice a day (food in kitchen cupboard). She was skittish to be touched but let us sit near her. 😊 The location of the lodge was also great! Not too far to drive to some beautiful places & close to food & stores. The property was large & outdoor plants were fun to explore. No noise from humans or vehicles at all! By the carport there’s storage with a plethora of items! Snorkel gear, umbrella (a giant one for rain), coolers, chairs, even a boogie board all available for use. It’s also where the washer/dryer is located and they are new wonderful machines! Thank you so much & we hope to stay again!

One of the best vacations

I have traveled extensively and used VRBO several times. This was the best, most beautiful, most peaceful place I have ever stayed. The listing and the photographs do not do this cabin justice. Connie and Andrew are very kind, very easy to reach and very helpful. The cabin is on 2 lush, very private acres. We did not see or hear another person for our entire stay. The kitchen was very well stocked with all of the essentials necessary for cooking as like being at home. The living room was a good size, with large windows so you can see the rain forest. There is a wrap around lanai on two sides of the house. A breakfast table on the lanai. The washer and dryer are high efficiency. The bed was extremely comfortable. There are ceiling fans in each room that keep the cabin cool. And saving the best for last. The outdoor shower. If you have never taken an outdoor shower, it's amazing. The property is on 2 very private acres so there are no one to see. Thank you Connie and Andrew. This is a beautiful memory we will never forget.

Perfect Retreat

The house is thoughtfully and beautifully designed & decorated. Very comfortable. The screened in living room gives the impression of being immersed in the chaos of a tropical jungle, with all the comforts of being dry indoors. The bedroom closes off from the sounds of outside nicely. The comfortable bed, sheets, pillows and blankets provide delicious nights of sleep. The kitchen & bathroom are well stocked, the full size fridge allows whatever level of cooking you desire. I stayed there four days straight, but know the area well, it's not far from stores, restaurants, sights and ocean. Highly recommended for the adventurous.

About the host

Hosted by Connie and Andrew

Host profile image
We are a fun loving, adventurous couple, living in the jungles of east Hawaii. We have traveled, and travel, extensively. We love visiting exotic locations and meeting people from all over the world. Connie is a semi- retired, celebrity wardrobe stylist originally from Hollywood. Andrew, born in Australia, is a building contractor and FEO Officer/tanker driver for the Hawaiian Paradise Park Volunteer Fire Department . Connie currently is a yoga instructor who runs her own studio on a 40 acre permaculture farm in Pahoa and leads yoga retreats on the island of Paros, Greece during the summer. Choosing a simpler life, we moved to Pahoa in 2001 to fulfill our dream of off-grid, sustainable living. Our home is up the road from the Rainforest Hideaway on a separate property we developed ourselves with machetes and a lot of sweat. We hand built our rammed earth home, made from volcanic cinder and inorganic soil from old sugar cane fields, and grow most of own own food organically.

Why they chose this property

The Enchanting Rainforest Hideaway is a unique and very private property. Located in a rare old growth jungle/rainforest area of Puna with many native and exotic plants and trees, yet still just a mile from the highway, 200 ft. off a paved road. (unpaved road is maintained and fine for rental cars) The perfect location to get away from it all but still be close enough to all the sights, restaurants and activites. Many other places you share the house or property with others, but not here. This is 2 acres all to yourself, beautifully landscaped with many extra touches to make your stay more relaxing and enjoyable.

What makes this property unique

Enchanting Rainforest Hideaway has been awarded 2014 - 2020 Certificates of Excellence and Super host status for consistently earning top ratings from our guests.
