This lovingly restored, clean and fresh, family cottage home, features an expansive green lawn to the lake, plenty of land and water toys, a retro mid-century turquoise 50’s cottage theme, with all of the modern conveniences we have come to desire. On the other sided of the house, a smaller bedroom en-suite, with queen bed and sm full shower bath. A third sleeping option is the queen sleeper sofa in the living room alcove, with a full view of the lake and 32" flat screen tv and WIFI provided.

Fun decor and furnishings make the cottage a joy to explore. The retro 50's kitchen is complete with original turquoise metal kitchen cabinets, 50's chrome dinette set, Kit Kat Klock and original boomerang Formica counter top with chrome edge trim. Find a fondue set, Revere-Ware pan set, Corelle dishes...all of the fifties fun with modern convenience.
The large kitchen features a washer & dryer as well as an eat in breakfast area, full size refrigerator/freezer, electric range, new dishwasher, microwave, drip coffee maker, coffee grinder, French press, toaster, aluminum canister set, and of course a stocked cookie jar. Fully furnished kitchen...just bring food. We also provide 1 high chair.

The large L shaped living room features a game/dining table that seats 4. Large picture windows overlook the lake, plus a full glass pane door leading to the lake, allow for a panoramic view of the lake and all that is going on; from fishing, sailing, paddle boarding, skiing, peddle boating, kayaking, canoeing, tubing, and occasionally a plane will land on the water! The lakeside patio seats 10+ and makes picnics pure joy! We provide a charcoal and gas grill for your outdoor cooking and a nice fire pit near the waters edge for evening bonfires and s'mores. Peace and serenity, relax and enjoy.

Cast your fishing line from our private dock, drop your worm between the rocks along the shoreline and expect to catch bluegill, perch, crappie or maybe even a pike, although trolling is really best for pike. Or charter a fishing trip on Lake Michigan.

Maybe it's just a sit in the sun you love...we offer that too. You are welcome to bring your own boat, with the public boat launch just down the street a ways for in and out. Nice private drive for walks, stroller rides, or biking. Bring your bikes along.
Basketball hoop and court and wooden swing set/playhouse for children, paddle boat and 3 kayaks. Yard games to indoor games...we try to have it all.

2 flat screen tv's, just bring your Roku, wireless internet services are provided. Pillows, fresh sheets and towels, blankets, and bedspreads are furnished, as well as a completely set up kitchen. No smoking, no pets allowed.

The location can't be beat. We are 1-2 mile from downtown Fennville with several great restaurants, a grocery store, drug store, 2 gas stations, an ice cream soft and hard serve, hardware and lots of entertainment downtown and area wineries and restaurants throughout the year. We are only a 5 mile drive to Lake Michigan if it's the Big Lake beach you'd like to explore...but of course much chillier waters and sand accompany a trip to Lake Michigan shore as well. You might find interesting beach stones or beach glass at The West Side Park or Pier Cove beaches. You will enjoy how quickly Hutchins Lake warms up in the summer. We are approx. 10 min from Saugatuck Douglas, 15 minutes from South Haven and Holland.

So much to do in this beautiful coastal area from fruit picking, wine and hard cider tasting, trails for hiking and biking, galleries galore, and quaint lake towns, just a quick drive from Chicago, Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Detroit. We have many visitors from Ohio, Indiana, as well as St. Louis, KY and FL, Iowa, Tx as well as east and west coast visitors.

Fennville is definitely a 4 season community, so check out the happenings all seasons.
Stay with us while you visit your students or reunions at Hope College, WMU, Grand Valley, Calvin, Lake Michigan College...we're only a few minutes away.

We're a beautiful 10 min. drive to quaint downtown Douglas and Saugatuck. Visit Glenn as well, with the Blue Star Hwy antique and artist tour route. Circle Hutchins Lake to find Fenn Valley winery, Virtue Cider, Modales Winery, Crane Orchards U-pick, corn maize, hayrides, cow rides:) and of course Cranes Pie Pantry Bakery and winery for delicious meals and wines...the original farm to table as well as Gary Crane U-Pick.

Speaking of farm to table...check out Salt of the Earth...an award winning restaurant, right downtown in Fennville, with a wonderful evening menu. Music weekend nights. Almost next door is a fan fav coffee shop and spirits, Root Cafe, who offers farm to table as well, and many wonderful bakery items as well as breakfast lunch and dinner menu, along with spirits! Root is a wonderful addition to Fennville, 10 yrs now, and includes an art gallery. Quest Pizza is new to Fennville with unique pizza offerings. As you circle the lake don’t miss The Little Store pizza and much more!!
Many enjoy the Blue Goose, an American diner, for breakfast lunch or dinner...and a favorite for decades has been the What Not Inn at the corner of Blue Star and M-89, ...fun music Sunday and Monday evenings while you dine from a casual menu and the best coconut cake on the planet! We’re fans of the new Mexican restaurant El Jaripeo in downtown Fennville as well! You’ll love lots of great restaurants in Saugatuck/Douglas and South Haven too.

Those are just a 'few' of the fun features you will discover in this area...unique for it's beaches, hiking, canoeing and kayaking plus art, coastal living, and country farm flair. But all you really need for a fun and relaxing vacation can be found right at Cute As the Dickins cottage. Bring yourselves, your family and enjoy.

We hope to be your hosts for your next get-away vacation, and can’t wait to meet you!

Cheers!

Perfect summer vacation

We are so glad we chose the Cute as The Dickins cottage for our summer vacation. The cottage was impeccably clean, comfortable and homey and Kym was an attentive host making sure everything was perfect. We loved the location being so close to Lake Michigan beaches so we could enjoy both lakes. We will definitely book again in the future if we plan another Michigan vacation!

Beautiful location, Beautiful Cottage!

Idyllic, cute cottage right on Hutchins Lake, immaculate and clean and really well stocked. Had a great time using the kayaks and loved grilling outside. It was peaceful and serene and the perfect location to escape busy life and switch off for a few days. Kym was kind enough to send us lots of recommendations and super easy to communicate. Would love to stay again in future.

Relaxing Famiy Time

We enjoyed our family getaway at Hutchins Lake, especially fishing, going to the sandbar, and sharing family meals. The kitchen was well stocked with everything to prepare meals and the hostess is very welcoming and had surprises for us. The cottage is wonderful and provides space for all. A wonderful place for vacations.

Serene

We enjoyed our entire weekend at the cabin. The views of the lake were lovely and the cabin was spotless. The only blip was not being able to communicate with the owners through VRBO's site, but we resolved that by using text messages. All in all a wonderful experience. Thanks Kym and Bob

Beautiful location on the water with a deck, fishing boat, kayaks, and a paddle boat. The house had everything we needed to cook dinners and a great spot to eat outside.

Adorable

This was a great place to stay. House was exactly as described. The owners were very gracious. My only complaint was that I could not respond to the owners during our stay because the security codes VRBO sent would not go through. There has to be a better way than using these codes. We would absolutely stay there again.

Exceptionally clean & very welcome

Kym, the host was awesome! She reached out right after we booked and touched base a few times to make sure we didn't need anything. She went above and beyond at the house making us feel welcomed. It was by far one of the cleanest houses we've ever rented . The house has absolutely everything that you would need. And it is absolutely " Cute as a Dickens". Thank you so much for sharing your home with us!

Back to the Future

From the WOWSA sense of arrival to the personalization of the surprising little goodies Kym so well thought to scatter around the Dickens house to the precious mid-50's tchotchkes at every turn to the well-appointed and very comfortable beds, our stay was lovely. Kym bent over backwards and then some for us in so many ways; she is a rare host. We shall return!!

Second year renting here. Great both times. Good for kayaks, paddle boat, swimming, younger children and up. Wineries, fruit picking and great beaches nearby (South Haven, Holland, Oval Beach, and Saugatuck Dunes and city all within 20-25 minutes). Nice cottage with what you need for your stay.

July ‘23

We were there over the Fourth, and the festivities surrounding the lake were fantastic. The cottage was a great spot for a group of all ages. The location right on the shallow lake was great for the little ones. The adults also enjoyed the lake and the patio. Host was very hospitable, welcoming, and quick to answer any questions or to address concerns. Short drive into town, and not much further for Douglas/Saugatuck or Holland. We’ll definitely consider a return trip in the future!

family vacation

My family and I stayed at Cute as the Dickins cottage and had a great time. The owners were wonderful to deal with and very accommodating. The cottage was very clean and had everything you would need to make you feel at home. We have 3 boys and they had a great time in the lake and fishing, even our 2 1/2 year old could wade out just fine and safely. The is plenty to do near Fennville if you want to get out and explore too. We would definitely recommend staying.

Wonderful getaway

I would highly recommend the "Cute as the Dickins Lake Cottage". It was a must needed getaway with plenty of space and extremely clean. We had a blast using the kyaks and love that the dock has a nice shallow end. You have the best of both worlds with the small lake or the option for a 10-15 minute drive to larger towns to enjoy the crowds and festivals. Another plus was how helpful the owner was, making sure we made it in ok and checking on us to see if there was anything we needed. Again, would highly recommend!!!

Amazing Vacation on Hutchins Lake

Cute as a Dickens lake house lives up to its name and more! Our family which consists of my husband, 2 children (ages 5 and 2) my mother and myself spent 7 days at this lovely lake home. We had everything at our disposal including 2 kayaks, a paddle boat, beach supplies, toys and an amazing outdoor play set. Our kids were always entertained while we were there! The location of this home is ideal to visit all the adorable towns including Fennville, Saugatuk, South Haven, and Holland. We can't wait to stay at Cute as Dickens again!!

Boomerang Time Traveler Trip

2 Boomers had glimpses of childhood, yet with updated Creature Comforts (W/D, microwave, oven, refrigerator/freezer, flatscreens TVs, Wi-Fi, hair dryer) Our responsive host insured it was clean and comfy! Great for families or duos, we toured a winery, Lighthouse, lavender farm, Commemorative Poppy Field, Car Show & Cherry Orchard. Nearby Holland, South Haven, Saugatuck & Fennville offer a variety of spas, boutiques, restaurants & entertainment. The spacious lakeside cottage has a grill, dock, pedal & row boats, life jackets & tubes, fire pit with seating, board games, movies plus a children’s Play Fort. S’more’s ingredients & a large binder guide to area attractions were a welcoming touch! Two porches, kitchen and dining tables are dining options for takeout or prepped meals from a fully-equipped kitchen. Sleeping space for up to 8 includes bunk beds, sleeper sofa, King & Double beds, Pack ‘N Play. Bring a rod & reel, adapters-chargers, night light, books, bait and fishing license. You’ll find it a hoot to stay at the Cute!

Fantastic!

We had an amazing time at Kym's lakeside cottage in Fennville!!! Everything was as described, and we even thought the place seemed a lot bigger in person than in the photos. It's the perfect combination of vintage cottage vibes and modern conveniences. We went kayaking twice a day, and enjoyed the dock and the firepit. We loved watching the bald eagle and the blue herons especially! The beds were super comfy, the bathrooms and kitchen very clean, and Kym left a ton of recommendations. Short trip to Saugatuck/Douglas and Lake Michigan, and we loved Root Cafe, Crane's, and Virtue Cider nearby. We'll definitely be back!! :)

Excellent vacation

We thoroughly enjoyed our week stay. The weather was great. The cottage is comfortable with scenic view of lake. With two young children, Hutchins Lake is great--water is shallow a good distance out, and the boat traffic is light even on a Sunday. The 2 bedroom setup was perfect for 3 adults and 2 children. This is probably the best stocked vacation cottage or condo I have ever rented. My daughter, son-in-law, and 2 children (6 & 8) enjoyed the paddle boat and kakaks and floating and swimming. There is plenty to do nearby if one is interested--Saugatuck Dunes, Saugatuck, Holland & South Haven, etc. Also, we could pick blueberries, raspberries, and peaches (later apples will be in season) within 5-10 minute drive as well as visit two wineries (others and a cider place are nearby as well). Don't miss the Douglas Root Beer Barrel for lunch if you head to the Saugatuck Dunes and/or Douglas and Saugatuck.

Great SW Michigan Lake Vacation

Property is as described with lakefron on Hutchins Lake at Fennville, MI. It is well located for a lake vacation on Hutchins Lake with a good variety of options nearby--within minutes to pick fresh fruit and visit wineries, short drive to Saugatuck dunes and Lake Michigan beaches (20 minutes or less), within 25-30 minutes of Holland to the north and South haven to the south, and a little over 1 hour west of Grand Rapids. Hutchins Lake is great for swimming, kayaking, and pontoon and speed boats. Hutchins is a quiet lake with low traffice alll week (no wake period from 7:30pm to 11am). Bring your own boat to use on Hutchins Lake (boat launch very close to cottage) or drive to Saugatuck or Holland to rent boats to use on the lakes there. There is no marina on Hutching Lake. We have throughly enjoyed our stay at this cottage for 3 years with prompt responses to questions from the owner.

About the host

Hosted by Kym Zumbrink

Host profile image
I was raised in Fennville, and Bob and I came back to live here, after our marriage and a short 2 years in Troy Michigan, where we started our careers after college. The family & hardware lured us back, and we settled and raised our family here in Fennville.

I grew up just down the street from Cute As The Dickins/my grandparents home. It has been a true labor of love to restore the home and keep it in our family, as it has always been, since the 1930's. The picture is of one of our daughters, with her daughter, and 4 of our other daughters daughters! We're a family of many daughters and one grandson!

We still own and operate the local True Value hardware that has been in my family for over 145 years...and I retired last year from a local retirement community, as their Move-In Coordinator/decorator. Life is full, and sharing our family cottage, helping others make memories on Hutchins Lake, is a true joy.

Why they chose this property

The location of our home cannot be beat. It's the best spot on Hutchins Lake in our opinion...having owned property on the lake and grown up here. Enjoy 75 ft of pristine, natural lake frontage, and beautiful sunsets from the shaded yard of this property. The home is much larger than it appears from the outside or pictures.
This location is central to all West Michigan has to offer, a quick ride to Holland, Saugatuck, Glenn and South Haven, and a quiet retreat away from it all.
You like Lake Michigan too? No problem...great beaches within 5-6 miles from the cottage... Hutchins Lake is a VERY clean, spring-fed lake, and it warms up so nicely, and earlier than LM ...you will love this beautiful find. Nice big yard for all kinds of activities and a playhouse, slide and swings for kids plus basketball court.

What makes this property unique

Location Location Location! Enjoy the quiet private lakefront neighborhood, and the proximity to all of the vacation activities you can think of in West Michigan. We're right on the lake...not across the road, or down a hill...just a nice easy stroll across the beautiful yard to the lakes edge, making it easy, and safe for families. The lake is shallow along our 75 ft of frontage, safe for children to wade and swim...with it becoming gradually deeper. We've added a play set for children, 3 kayaks, peddle boat, row boat, toys, and have provided all of the amenities to make your vacation relaxing and care-free.
We have left as much of the original '50's cottage' feel as we can. We love the pine paneling, and 50's light fixtures that are original to the 1950's remodel our grandparents did to the home. The cute wood doors separating the kitchen from the living room were something we all remember as kids.

Lala's huge lakeside bedroom with mint green tiled full bath just outside of the bedroom door; is pure delight. We've added a bunkbed and tv to this room that are a big hit. Who doesn't remember bunkbeds in cottages of the past? We've had fun furnishing with new linens while keeping the original wallpaper and curtains that match in this room.

The queen bedroom with it's small en-suite full bath, is just right, with it's built in dressers, and a nice closet to unpack your suitcase in to. This suites paneling has been painted the prettiest light turquoise blue, after being dark gold for years! Very fresh and pretty now, with the prettiest mid century white wood headboard, and tiny white leather chair. Furniture back then was much smaller than today's furniture.

We have many familiar retro dishes, and decor for you to discover and enjoy throughout. I had a lot of fun furnishing the cottage. The 50's kitchenette and game table are personal favorites...with a few family antiques.
Come and savor this unique and historical cottage. I think you'll fall in love.
