About this property

Spring Awakening in a Lakeside Cabin - Strawberry Lake Cabin

Watch the Minnesota wilderness stretch its legs after a long winter! Up North this time of year, the birds return, Strawberry Lake thaws, the trees pop out their blooms—and you can take a front row seat for the show at this lakeside cabin tucked into the lush spring woods.

Built in 2013 by local Minnesota craftsmen, our Strawberry Lake Cabin presents an ideal place for enjoying the outdoors. Spend the day on the big outdoor deck, watching the lake sparkle and relishing the forgotten joy of sun on your skin!

Inside, an open common area—including a fully-equipped and gleaming kitchen—faces cathedral windows overlooking the deck, the woods, and the lake. These windows span the width of the house, all the way up to the lofted sleeping area, which is perched at the tree line.

If a chill lingers in the air during your getaway, the radiant in-floor heating will warm your toes.

A RETREAT FOR COUPLES, FRIENDS & FAMILIES; MOREOVER, A PLACE TO REUNITE WHERE EVERYONE CAN SPREAD OUT

Couples love it here at our Strawberry Lake Cabin—no matter the season.

Experience the easy romance of tucking into nature together and shaking off the stresses of everyday life. From the loft bedroom, views of an unpolluted Minnesota sky full of stars will lull you into a deep sleep, and the green, flowering woods will greet you first thing in the morning.

Friends’ getaways of two to four people—complimented by a bottle of Minnesota’s local wine, maybe? - find a wonderful ‘slow stay’ setting here, as well.

And families appreciate our Strawberry Lake Cabin—as well as the many family-friendly activities on the property and nearby. To make your family retreat easy, we provide a highchair, a baby crib, and a washer/dryer for warm, fresh clothes for everyone mid-week.

No matter who you’re traveling with, we highly recommend a canoe trip out on Strawberry Lake. We will provide the canoe for you! And the water here is calm and peaceful, with less motorboat traffic than on many of the lakes in this area. Not to mention the water clarity: spring-fed Strawberry Lake is so clear; you can see almost 17 feet straight down to the bottom!

And this time of year, the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge, located just three miles away, is a spectacular place for a hike or a bike ride. When you get back from outdoor adventuring, heat up the gas grill and get your energy back with a perfectly cooked lakeside burger. Or, maybe you'd like to be pampered and treated to a local homemade catered breakfast, lunch or dinner - we can help make that happen.

One more spring activity we can’t forget: May marks the beginning of the fishing season! An early-spring morning is never better than when it’s spent on the calm, clear waters of Minnesota’s lakes, a Thermos of coffee steaming beside you while you wait for a bite. The crisp feeling that lingers in the air in May only adds to the experience.

MAKE NEW MEMORIES WITH US

There’s a timeless quality to Strawberry Lake and Northern Minnesota. As the setting for many of my own happy childhood memories (and the place where I proposed to my wife), the woods and lakes Up North hold a special place in my heart. I love being able to share the magic of this place with others—at a cabin built by people who live here in the area, too.

We’ve decorated the house with items that mean a lot to us, collected locally and around the world.

If you’d like to capture the essence of that “feeling of premium,” we’d love to have you here to experience our version of paradise at Strawberry Lake!

Kind regards,
Don & Cheryl Aamodt, Owners

Beautiful relaxing cabin

The cabin is exactly as described. It is warm and cozy with all the comforts you need. Don was very good about communicating and even worked with us when an unexpected snow storm delayed our arrival. I highly recommend the Strawberry Lake Cabin.delayed our arrival. I

Peaceful Weekend Getaway

This property was absolutely stunning! The craftsmanship of the cabin itself was breathtaking but add the view and location and you are speechless. Such an amazing stay with everything you’d need to be comfortable and get away from the day to day chaos. Hope to come back soon!

Thanksgiving getaway

My husband and I had no family coming to town this Thanksgiving and thought a getaway we be a great option. Don's Winter Wonderland was the perfect place. We cooked an entire Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. The view of the snow and lake through all of the windows was spectacular. Thanks for a great time! .

Great location for fishing and relaxing

Had a great time. The place was clean and loved the bonfire/grill/deck setup. Driveway path was a bit narrow and can be challenging if parking with a truck/trailer/boat. Otherwise the fishing and cabin was great.

Perfect cabin getaway

I had a very specific type of cabin in mind when I was looking to book a long weekend cabin getaway for my family and when I found this I was very excited. It exceeded my expectations and was just perfect. We had some sketchy weather but we were still able to make our own fun and relax and watch movies.

Peaceful and refreshing

We had a wonderful stay at this cabin! It was quiet, private, and comfortable for our family of four. We got up at 4am one morning to view the Perseid meteor shower and were surprised with a vivid northern lights display as well, right from the boat dock. We lucked out with perfect weather for our entire stay. My kids loved the campfires, the big hammock, and the canoe/boat rides. Many sunfish and one bass were caught. Thanks, Don, for sharing your property with us! It was well worth the 7-hour drive. :)

Secluded and Quiet

If you like secluded and quiet, this is the place for you. Perfect size for two adults. Living room only seats 4-5 people, so four adults would be very cozy. Cabin is beautifully maintained with a well-stocked kitchen. Only seating in kitchen is three bar stools at the counter. There is a table that can be unfolded/set up for more seating; but if the weather is nice you will spend your time on the roomy deck that has a beautiful view of the lake. Very few mosquitos (surprisingly, since it is so wooded!). Strawberry Lake is large with a sandy bottom and reportedly good fishing. It was a very quiet lake during the week, with few boats out. There are reeds about 100 yards out from dock, so swimming is not really an option at the dock. Part of the dock is only 18” wide so people who are not “sure-footed” need to be careful on it.

PARADISE FOUND

All amenities as advertised and more. Wooded isolation with abundant shore fishing, enough for two yummy dinners on the gas BBQ during our one week stay. Canoe and motorized fishing boat also available. Off-site owner a dream to work with and a local caretaker available if you need anything. Will we come-back, you betcha!!!!!!!! Wonderful Week at Strawberry Lake

My husband and I had a wonderful week at this cabin. It was very clean and comfortable. They have a lot of outdoor seating to enjoy all areas of the deck and yard. Getting to the dock was interesting. I'm thankful that both my husband and myself are able bodied and didn't have a problem accessing the dock. We did rent the boat, which was nice to get around on the lake and go fishing. I would highly recommend this property, it's beautiful inside and out.

Excellent Once Again

This was our third time at the cabin on Strawberry Lake, second year in a row. Same great quality as the previous stays. The cabin is in a secluded location very close to the public boat ramp. The dock has a covered slip with a boat lift and power available. The cabin is very comfortable with everything needed for a great vacation. Many fish were caught, mostly on the east side up through the northeast corner. Great place for a couple or a family looking for a quiet get-away. Highly recommended!

Nice accommodations on a nice lake

Nicely off the beaten path, this was a great stay for our family with friendly hosts. Strawberry lake is one of those quieter lake communities that offers a good break from the busier lakes in other parts of the state -- clear, nice quality lake water with loons calling all night. The cabin was extremely well stocked with many amenities -- allowing us to stay occupied inside during spells of rain, as well as do lots outdoors when the weather is clear.

Lovely getaway

We had a wonderful, cozy and relaxing weekend at the cabin. We would have enjoyed a bonfire and canoe ride had the weather been nicer. The cabin was immaculate and the kitchen had everything you'd need. We've stayed at many rentals, and the beds and pillows were some of the most comfortable we've experienced. You can see other cabins, but you still feel secluded. The lake view is beautiful, and we even caught some northern lights! Highly recommend.

Lovely Anniversary Trip to Cozy Cabin

Well, our fickle Minnesota weather was unforgiving on the weekend of our Anniversary this year, but we were in the perfect spot for a snuggly rained-in vacation. The cabin is lovely, clean, and feels very cozy. We found ourselves staring out the large windows at falling leaves, pouring rain, and flashing lightning in between the pages of our books. The chair facing the windows is impossibly comfortable. I took at least three naps in it and we were only there three days. The movie collection was varied, the proximity to hiking trails was perfect, and we were close enough to a store that it wasn't the end of the world when I forgot some pretty major food items when packing (oops). My only critique is that the grip mat for the shower had some mold growth on the underside. Nothing a little bleach wouldn't cure, but it was a surprise when I found it. Anyway, the views, canoeing on the lake (yes, even in the rain), the campfires, and the cozy snuggle time made a very nice respite from our usual lives.

Strawberry Lake Cabin

We enjoyed our stay at the Strawberry Lake Cabin. We were looking for an escape from the Carolina summer heat and experienced an early taste of fall weather with the leaves starting to change color. The cabin was clean and comfortable and equipped with everything we needed. If you are looking for an escape from urban life, this is the place. It felt like we were in the north woods, and we even had to drive to town for cell phone service. However, internet service is available, so we could use our electronic devices. I would definitely come back to the Strawberry Lake cabin.

As a farm boy raised on an apple orchard in Stillwater, MN, I grew up loving the outdoors. With my father and grandfather, I spent my childhood hunting, fishing and camping in the woods 'Up North.'

Though my wife (who grew up in Sonoma, CA wine country) and I now live in the Central Valley farming region of California, our love for woods and waters of Minnesota ensures that we make time for yearly visits to Strawberry Lake Cabin. With its tucked-into-the-trees setting next to sparkling, spring-fed Strawberry Lake, we've found no better place in the world for slowing down and recharging together. And, we think you'll agree.

Don't hesitate to contact us with questions about the cabin and the surrounding area of Detroit Lakes - we're happy to help!

What's most important to us is helping you create fun and lasting vacation memories. If there's any possible way, we can enhance your vacation experience at our property please contact us by phone, text or email...we aim to provide you a first-rate service.

Why they chose this property

When I came to see the lot on Strawberry Lake, I was hooked. This lakefront property - though overgrown and in the need of TLC - captured everything I loved about my youth in Minnesota: a thick cover of trees to mark the passing of the seasons and to keep the cabin secluded, a sandy lakefront for launching canoes, and acres of crystal-clear water. The cabin itself is a newer construction - built in 2013 - and provides lots of amenities we didn't have back in my days of camping in the MN woods, including a full kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a downy bed for restful nights, radiant heated floors/wall and A/C mini-split system.

What makes this property unique

Too many to name! Mostly, we love its Off-The-Beaten-Path secluded feeling, in the dense trees, the big front deck facing the water, the private boat dock, and the lofted bedroom that feels like a treehouse - a place where you can escape the rest of the world for a while.
Two fun lake fishing & exploring benefits:
1) 14 ft. Lund fishing boat with a 9.9 hp 4 stroke Honda motor for you to rent at the following flat rates:
2-3 night stays - $80.00 (1st tank of gas free)
4 or more night stays - $180.00 (1st tank of gas free)
2) Complimentary 14 ft. Old Town Canoe, with seat backs; paddles (including child's paddle) & life jackets provided
