About this property

Come Experience our Regenerative Farm in our historic and renovated Manor House.

This stately, 3 bedroom and 3 baths, home rests on the lush 82 acre Whiffletree Farm. The farm and home provide a serene setting rich in history, agriculture, and natural beauty. Guests can enjoy the sense of being far from the busyness of city/suburban life, yet only 2 miles away from Old Town Warrenton, Virginia. Whiffletree Farm also allows guests the opportunity to delve into agro-tourism: gain exposure to sustainable farming, study resources (videos, books, articles) provided in home library, and purchase poultry, milk, eggs etc. from the farm store run by the farmers themselves, Jesse and Liz Straight.

History: For at least 80 years of the 20th century Whiffletree Farm was dedicated to horses and specifically, fox hunting. The Warrenton Hunt still rides the property and the hunting hounds (50-60) are kenneled next door. Celebrities like John and Jacquelin Kennedy and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor attended cocktail parties at Whiffletree as part of the social scene surrounding the 'Hunt.'

Agriculture: The farmers, Jesse and Liz Straight, raise pastured broiler chickens (and turkeys), free-foraging pork, grass-finished beef and pastured laying hens. Their farming method of using intensive rotation grazing creates a happy and healthy environment for the animals, improves the fertility of the land and provides more nutritious food for customers . Their cattle are 100% grass fed and their turkeys, broiler chickens, pigs, and laying hens are raised on fresh pasture, non-GMO feed, no antibiotics, no chemicals on the ground, and no toxic chemical washes when they are processed. All this work, precision and care, not only help keep animals, the earth and people healthier it also results in distinctively rich tasting food.

Natural beauty: There are lovely walks about the farm, near the stream or down by Great Run and bike rides along the lane. And just a stone’s throw away guests will find a variety of the many great things Virginia’s rolling hills and vibrant culture has to offer: the historic town of Warrenton (2 miles), the storied battlefields of Culpeper and Manansas (15 miles), Virginia’s great wine trails- vinards/wineries- (8 miles), the Blue Ridge Mountains and Skyline Drive (24 miles), the Town of Little Washington with it's famous Inn (17 miles), the Ashby Inn in Paris, Va.(20miles) and many more sites.

And lastly, in case hikes, bike rides and walks don’t satisfy your exercise needs, Warrenton has a large aquatic center with a competition pool, hot tub, water park with slides and workout facilities. Golf courses, a tennis club and a yoga studio are also just within a 10 minute drive. But don't overbook yourselves. The house, the farm and the grounds are special.

Please also note the house's large sunroom and outdoor yard space. We consider events for under 40 people on a case by case basis for an additional fee of $500.

Wonderful stay at a wonderful place

Whiffletree Manor House is A beautifully preserved, but still updated house. Our out-of-town guests couldn’t get over how nice it was, both the overnight guests and the ones who came to a baby shower we had there. Not only is the house lovely but so are the grounds, there’s even a swing hanging from one of the trees to make it look that much more picturesque. We would definitely rent this house again for when we have people visiting.

Overall, nice stay. Great house, lots of potential. Realizing it’s an old house, but first floor entry, hall and living room were musty, not good for those with allergies.

Farmhouse with Animals

Beautiful piece of property with a very interesting history. Love the zebra theme. Jessie was very personable and always eager to make your stay pleasurable. He came very quickly when we needed something. This is a children’s dream with many farm animals.

Very cute house

Beautiful house with lots of charm - a lot of custom mill work in the old portion of the house which was really nice. The property manager was awesome and very communicative. I read reviews about houseflies - and yes, there were a couple, but it’s an old farm house on a working farm. Houseflies are a reality. They never bothered us. Our only real complaint (and reason why it’s not a 5-star review) was the beds. They are very very VERY firm and need to be replaced. We could not get comfortable in them, and ended up spending the second night on the couches to get some sleep. If the mattresses get replaced, we would absolutely go back.

Wonderful Stay

We had a great time at Whiffletree! The house is beautiful and staying on a working farm is so unique. The house is well-equipped with everything you need and the hosts left us farm-fresh goodies and some staples- so thoughtful. The location is beautiful and serene but a very short drive from Warrenton for restaurants and shopping. We loved our stay!

Another wonderful trip!

This was our sixth trip to the farm with our kids. It continues to be a little slice of heaven for our family. We had the most peaceful and memorable Thanksgiving at the farm. Everything was just as we left it. We look forward to returning next year.

Another amazing stay!

This was our fourth year visiting the farm. It truly is a slice of heaven. Our kids had a blast exploring the property and visiting the chickens, pigs, and cows. Jesse and Liz were wonderful hosts (as always). The house was clean and spacious and has everything you could need. We dined out this year and loved Denim & Pearls (which serves Jesse’s chicken) and Red Truck Bakery,

Charming atmosphere for family event, wonderful experience

We stayed at Wiffletree Manor for our son's wedding at Great Marsh Estates. It was a wonderful experience and a great family place. Our grandchildren loved the yard, the rope swing, and watching the turkeys. The house has cozy and homey vibe. The Farm Store was a nice plus. Chase was a great host and very responsive. We will definitely stay again.

Weekend in the Rolling Virginia Hills

We stayed at The Manor House while attending wedding activities at nearby Wollam Gardens. The old homestead provided a relaxing escape from the excitement of the wedding event. The interior of the house is comfortably furnished and features a large well-appointed kitchen. The bedrooms are spacious. The grounds and the home's exterior could use some attention. The working regenerative farm setting, including the well-stocked farm store, adds to the unique experience of staying in this Fauquier County home.

Beautiful property, great hosts, wish we could have stayed longer.

A group of my girl-friends and I rented this property for our trip to the 2017 Women's March on Washington. It was close enough to DC that we could easily get into the city for our March, yet far enough that we escaped the chaos of all the people that were in DC for this historical event. The house was amazing! So charming! We wished we could have stayed longer to enjoy the property. The hosts are so generous, leaving fresh eggs and sausage for our breakfast. Also, the host was a great communicator, answering all my pesky questions. This would be a great house for a peaceful, relaxing family getaway!

Whiffletree wedding weekend

We spent five days at Whiffletreee Farm while attending a family wedding weekend. The farm/property is beautiful in the center of horse/farm country in Virginia. The staff at the farm were so sweet and definitely let us experience the farm…including answering all our questions, letting us hold the babies and sharing their stories. The home was large, with all baths and kitchen being updated. The home’s decor is dated, with older couches in the main living room. The home had a musty smell and too many air fresheners to try to mask the smell. And there were bugs…and yes it’s in the country and it’s expected…but when we used the stove the first day, there were too many ants to count, coming out of the area around it, bugs in window sills, wasps and larger ants in other rooms. The home needs a deep cleaning and windows need to be washed. Our overall experience was fun! Again, everyone was nice and we enjoyed our stay!

Nostalgia meets conveniences

Farm'ville with tons of space, bathrooms are updated, attention to some details and others overlooked. Loved the Southern farm environment, fresh eggs, sausage and bread for a yummy fresh breakfast. Didn't have time to explore the store, animals or grounds but did see lots of activity going to and from the store, the guest house and employees. Flies & wasp were an annoyance we could'velived without. We realize it's a farm but pest management is a real thing. Cob webs, lights not working and piles of 'stuff' in cabinets/closets/laundry room did affect the overall feel. As soon as we walked in the front hall we saw the ripped, silk bench cushion, which grabs your attention and then sets the tone for noticing the sofas are definitely lived on and other areas receive little or no attention. My question would be, how much does it cost to have that recovered or to have 2 nice enough sofas? Just sayin! Overall the check-in and communication was good but we did have to request info we were told would be provided. Apparently, the info book inside the home isn't updated ... again, why not if you're running a business here. The location, clean bathrooms, semi comfortable beds and space to enjoy family, before and after a wedding, was nice. I'd consider staying again or referring it out, IF some of these 'oooops' were improved and given attention

Beautiful Historic Home

I stayed here for our wedding weekend, we also hosted our rehearsal dinner here. Leading up to our stay, Chase was great about responding to questions and providing check in information. The home is old but super spacious and pretty. It is also well maintained. The outdoor swing and surrounding area is gorgeous. The house was perfect to host an event! We appreciated having the fresh eggs and sausage waiting for us, as well as Red Truck coffee and bread. The only complaints I have about the home is, as others mentioned, the spotty Wi-Fi or overall cellular service. The WiFi hot spot stopped working after the first day. Friends who have Verizon did not have an issue, but it was difficult to contact others who were lost finding the house or talking to my vendors the day of the wedding. Also, something went on with the water pressure the second day of our stay and only one of the showers worked when you turned it on!

It IS a peaceful farm setting and a beautiful country getaway!

Believe all of the reviews - this IS a special place. The house and surroundings are lovely. Just driving up to the residence transports you to a time and place when life was less hectic and complicated. It's beautiful horse country and you will love every minute of your stay here. The home is large and was very comfortable for our group of 5 ladies coming into town to cycle (bike) around Warrenton and Front Royal for four days. We were greeted by a lovely note and some special goodies left by the property manager - all were very nice, special touches that made us feel welcome. We had plenty of "cooks" in the kitchen - thank goodness the kitchen is large and well equipped. Having three ovens is such a bonus. Someone mentioned that this home would be a fantastic Thanksgiving getaway for a family….it would be quite the bucolic scene. We never sat in the formal dining room and never turned on the TV! The bedrooms were large as well, with comfortable mattresses, nice quality bedding and linens as well. You won't be disappointed. Main Street Warrenton is right up the road, literally and is quite charming, with plenty of places to dine or grab a lite bite to eat. Don't miss the Red Truck Bakery - it's a special place. The added bonus is the opportunity to see the farm - and to speak with the sweet and special Straight family. We made arrangements to visit the Farm Store outside of their normal Saturday hours and Jesse was very helpful and informative. There was PLENTY of protein and other goodies to purchase - so remember to bring a cooler with you if you are arriving via auto. Since our focus was cycling, we didn't have the opportunity to do more exploring around the property. Hopefully, we will do so with our next visit. Prior to arrival, the property manager was very responsive in our communications and made our stay easy and comfortable. Enjoy your stay!

lovely long weekend

This was our 2nd time at Whiffletree and we had another delightful stay. The setting was gorgeous, the house charming, and the property manager, Chase, was attentive to our needs. The owner, Jesse, even gave us some parting gifts from the farm the morning we left. All in all, a terrific place. We'll be back.
