About this property

Waterfront, Breathtaking Views, Patio Fireplace, Chefs Kitchen, HGTV remodel

Begin each day with stunning Medomak River water views from Jacobs Place, a unique and beautifully renovated 1884 Cape-style Saltwater Farm set on 15 acres of rolling meadows. This historic property has been transformed and redecorated by a team of architects and interior designers and features a modern architectural interior with big open spaces, taking great care to respect the original structure and features. This Maine home is luxuriously appointed and has been equipped to a very high standard to enable the owners and guests to enjoy it year-round. Every season offers it's particular charm - Spring and Summer offer the classic Maine Vacationland experience, Fall colors are beautiful and we love to spend late afternoons after a hike in front of the outdoor granite fireplace. Winter and especially the Holiday Season is a great opportunity to enjoy the beautiful interiors and chef's kitchen.
Its New England coastal retreat style, enhanced by locally sourced antiques and unique decorative touches, provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere and is a wonderful place for families and friends to gather in a cozy and very private setting.

There are breathtaking views from the entire ground floor, including the contemporary country-style Chef’s kitchen with state of the art stainless appliances as well as cherry-wood countertops.

Sliding doors from the living/dining area open onto the spacious curved deck that runs the length of the home with steps leading down to the cobblestone circular patio area, which is equipped with a granite fireplace. Complete with built-in seating and LED riser lights, the space extends indoor entertaining outdoors.

The 2400 sqft home has a large open concept living/dining/kitchen space, mixing contemporary design with historic architectural features and custom-built furniture. The spacious ground floor master suite has deck access and a spa-style ensuite bathroom. Upstairs, the 2-room guest suite, 2nd guest room and family/media room offer plenty of additional space.

Your days might start (early or later…) with a morning walk down to the water, possibly with a thermos of coffee as we often do, to sit and enjoy the peaceful views from the bench installed at the water’s edge. Or for those of you so inclined, do your morning exercises watching the sun rise. I myself will tend to open the deck doors from the master bedroom and watch the view from there with my first cup of coffee. You will want to spend time relaxing on the elevated deck while planning trips to the beach or some of the nearby villages and towns such as Damariscotta, Rockland or Camden to name a few. Further afield, you will find spectacular hiking trails available in Camden Hills State Park or Acadia National Park.
If you don’t feel like going out for dinner, get lobster from a local supplier or decide to cook a meal in the fully equipped kitchen or simply use the large gas grill on the deck for a simple barbecue. Later in the evening, light a fire in the outdoors granite fireplace, cook smores or just enjoy conversation with your friends and family.

This home was the featured remodel on the DIY Network show Blog Cabin 2012.

Wonderful !

Our family loved our stay at Jacobs Place. The chef's kitchen has everything you need for preparing meals. The home is beautiful as well as the property. The hosts provided information for the surrounding areas to visit as well as all the grocery and specialty stores which was very helpful. I highly recommend this home to visit coastal Maine.

Very Enjoyable Stay

The home of Jim & Mia is gorgeous with a spacious great room that flows nicely into the well-stocked kitchen. The master bedroom and bath are quite spacious and luxurious with a large bonus game room upstairs.Several large windows provide beautiful light and views of the property and Medonak River. The 2 sets of double doors on the first floor lead out to a large porch overlooking the garden, stone fireplace and large field (with a nice walking path all the way down to the water’s edge). The 6 of us (friends) really enjoyed our stay in January. The home is cozy and nicely done (remodeled/decorated), keeping aesthetics from the old, combined with a modern flare and convenience.Mid-Coast Maine is definitely a beautiful place to vacation. Although we didn’t venture out, guests are provided with an expansive list of things to do and explore in the area.

Relaxing with great view!

The property was better in person than the pictures. We had 4 adults, and it was extremely spacious, both inside and outside living areas. We had fires at night using the outside fireplace, coffee on the deck, and watched the tide come in and out. Great place!!!

Perfect family getaway!

Our family had an incredible stay at this beautiful Waldoboro property. Jim and Mia are very attentive and responsive hosts and the house is spacious, clean, and has amazing water access. We spent a lot of time out on the deck and on the small beach at the edge of the property. There is enough space that we were very comfortable.and the kids had enough space to spread out. Jim and Mia provided a booklet with lots of great recommendations. In the nearby area there are some great places to hike and swim and lots of towns are easily accessible. We had an incredible stay and would love to return!

Lovely property and amazing host

Such a unique property, from the family gaming room to the large soaking tub, and the amazing view of the large meadow and river beyond it. We had a very relaxing stay. Mia is a great host, communicates well, and provided amazing suggestions for exploring and eating in the region. Boothbay and Camden are easy day trips as well. Great location for a quiet Maine vacation.

Lovely Week in Maine

I, my partner and my adult children and their partners spent a very lovely week at this home. The place was really special given the views from the porch and the inside accommodations. The kitchen was very well stocked with cookware, dishes, wine glasses etc. We loved the fire place and walking through the hay field down to the water. All in all I would very gladly recommend this home to everyone looking for a fun, peaceful vacation.

Waldoboro, MAINE

We loved our stay. The home was exactly as promised and then some! Everything we could possibly need was at the home. We loved the view of the water and the comfort in every space. There was plenty of room for all of us to have our own space. Also, the neighborhood was really quiet. The town of Waldoboro was a 5 minute drive, and we loved the coffee shop there. It was also an easy drive to Damariscotta and Camden. Overall, I would highly recommend this home and would definitely return.

Lovely stay

The property is just as beautiful in person as in the photos. It is well appointed and one of the more upscale places I've stayed. The outdoor furniture was perfect - it's usually old plastic chairs, but these were great and we spent many nights drinking wine on the patio! A couple of travel tips: GPS has the wrong house. Be sure you go to the right one. :) The roads are pretty dark and winding, so be careful when driving. Eat at Moody's!

Top of the List

We have booked dozens of homes over the past 25+ years. This stay may have been the best. The home and the land are special. Quality all around from the bedding to the bath to the chef's kitchen - with perhaps the best hot water on the planet. So much to see and do within 45 minutes in any direction. A magnificent hiking trail and lake are just across the road. The relaxing view from the spacious deck of the cove and trees made it difficult to leave to sightsee. Our gracious hosts made our stay even better. They are kind, responsive and informative. Our stay could not have been better. Hope to return in 2024.

Away!!!!

All was clean and tidy ready for our stay. The layout of the home is comfortable, relaxing and accessible with a beautiful view and walk to the water. Mia was very responsive when asked a question while continuing to respect her guest privacy. A small glitch in the upstairs game room was the LG Smart TV which was not as cooperative as we would have liked. Needless to say TV was not our main means of relaxation and entertainment. It was a pleasure to visit. I, we, would recommend this home as a go to destination.

Incredible rental, pictures do it no justice!

This home is a great rental, pictures do not lie. Mia is great, responds immediately and was incredible to work with. Home is gorgeous, yard is amazing, you can walk the waterfront all day and explore. Kids loved it even while still snow covered. Great to wake up to turkeys running through yard and all kinds of cool wildlife. Great waking paths all over area to walk and hike. Far enough away to disconnect and relax yet close to great dining and places to shop. Outdoor fireplace is amazing, great for sitting around the fire and making smores! Master spa tub is the real deal! Very relaxing home. We will be back! We need to find the DYI blog cabin show to see the history now.

Fabulous Get Away !

My family of 6 enjoyed a few days here after Christmas. It was just what we needed to spend a little time together away from the hustle of our everyday life. The house is impeccable and the property is just gorgeous. Each morning we would walk down to the waterfront and later in the afternoon hike in the mountains just across the way. I have 4 boys so they enjoyed roaming the property and creating the greatest adventures! The master bedroom was lovely and private, so the children took over the upstairs and it was plenty of room for all! The kitchen was a favorite for me, a great place to gather and all the amenities one could want, even a few condiments that we had forgotten! Mia was a delight to work with and I thank her and her husband for allowing us to spend a lovely holiday in their very cosy home. We all hope to go back someday! :)

Exceptional is Right

I can't add much to the superlatives in the previous reviews. This is an exceptionally well-designed home whose transformation from the earlier farmhouse is thoroughly documented on-line on the DIY Network (Blog Cabin 2012). The open design was great for keeping our family of five (three kids ages 9-11) in close contact through meals, board games, open fires on the deck, stargazing, s'more grazing and running around in the huge backyard. Swimming was available at Pemaquid Beach (half-hour drive) or Damariscotta Lake State Park (20 mins drive). Our kids preferred the lake. The locally-grown fruits and vegetables were amazing and any vacationing chefs will enjoy the kitchen. We drove around the area daily to visit different outdoor spots (Pemaquid Lighthouse, Camden State Park, Todd Wildlife Sanctuary) or towns (Rockland, Camden, Boothbay Harbor).

Mid-Coast Mindset

Our family of 5 really enjoyed our stay at this home. It's very clean, comfortable and well stocked with all of the essentials to make it easy and carefree. Each bedroom has it's own AC unit, which is nice for those warmer nights. Cool game/media room. Located about 2 hours south of Bar Harbor, there was lots to do and explore within only about a 30 minute drive in either direction. We had the luxury of talking to the owner of Odd Alewives Farmhouse Brewery (highly recommend) who gave us the scoop on some places to check out that weren't on our radar. Excellent hiking and swimming locales. Close to the grocery and a corner store that served some really great pizza, all of the conveniences were close at hand. There's a new gas grill and the outdoor space is awesome - we really loved having evening fires in the outdoor fireplace, relaxing with a beverage and having great conversations, especially at the end of a long day exploring the coast. The property and views of the water are excellent. It is quite a long walk (about 10 minutes) down to the water along the mowed path, so be prepared. It was a bit of a soggy walk and once at the water, it's tricky to get down to it, but we didn't find any use in swimming or fishing it. Getting to and from the house was easy, communication with the owners was a breeze. Wish list items would be a hot tub, cornhole, games, kayaks for the water; none were deal breakers. Would highly recommend staying here on your trip to Maine!

Beautiful Home & Great Location!

My husband and I booked this home for our family vacation that included our triplet teenagers and older 20-something daughter. It was perfect! The home is beautiful, nice layout with Master BR down and other BRs up. The game room upstairs had a huge TV and the sound system was amazing. The pantry had lots of supplies left from previous renters which made it really nice. I would highly recommend buying gallon jugs of water from the store for making coffee/tea. To us, the water had a funny smell and taste but easily remedied with purchased water. There are Farmers Markets all over which we took advantage of throughout the week. We really enjoyed cooking in the chef's kitchen and using the outdoor fire place at night for marshmallows. There's a nice wood pile, just buy some fire starters at the store. The night sky was so clear and the Milky Way was visible (turn off all the lights in the house). We found the trail near the neighbor's barn next door and walked to Peter Pond. There's a little brochure holder with the trail info. It was about a mile walk and the trail was well marked - but be sure to wear sturdy shoes since you have to hike over some uneven terrain. The pond was gorgeous. We purchased fresh steamed lobsters at the place Mia recommended and they were wonderful. The nearby Hannafords had everything we needed. The location perfect for all of our day trips to Portland, Popham Beach, Boothbay, Pemaquid Point, Camden, Rockland, and Bar Harbor. It was a wonderful stay and Mia was very responsive. There was lots of brochures and information on Maine, plus recent magazines. It was so hard to leave and can't wait to return.

Host profile image
We, Jim and Mia, come from a multinational background and have lived and worked in many different places throughout the world. Currently we divide our time between Europe and USA with frequent stays in Asia. We continue to enjoy travelling both for work and pleasure, and having spent several vacations in Maine, we fell absolutely in love with the mid-coast area and were lucky enough to drive past our dream home one day which happened to be for sale. We plan to use this wonderful house as much as possible ourselves, and have furnished and equipped it as such - as a home we dream of returning to at any time of year and one we are delighted to share with friends and renters who share our love for beautiful spaces inside and out. We speak English, German, French and Danish.

Why they chose this property

While vacationing in the Mid-Coast Region, we drove past this unique property one rainy day by pure coincidence and saw a 'for sale' sign. We were enchanted by the stunning views as well as the cosy look and feel of the home and figured “it was just meant to be”. Apart from being a very beautiful home, we love the fact that it has a history going back to 1884. We have albums at the house documenting the extensive remodelling and renovations which were carried out during 2012 when this place was the featured home in the DIY Network's programme 'Blog Cabin'.

What makes this property unique

When planning the renovation of this home, great care was taken to respect the original structure and features and a great effort was made to use many reclaimed materials, either by incorporating them in the new structure such as the original red double front door, now dividing the living space from the hallway leading to the master bedroom suite where again the beautiful wooden paneling is made of the house’s original inside doors. Wooden gutters were used both on custom-built tables as was barnwood reclaimed from an old structure. We very much feel that many parts of the old home which was build in 1884 continue to live on and we hope it will continue to do so for many generations to come.
