About this property

100 Year-Old Log Cabin Lovingly Restored - With New Bathroom And Kitchenette

The Gallery Cabin, a 100 year-old log cabin, lovingly refurbished with a new bathroom and kitchenette. Perfect for singles or couples the 240 square foot cabin has a brand new queen size bed, kitchen nook with sink, microwave, kettle, toaster, toaster oven and fridge, and a bathroom with shower and towel warming rack. Breakfast makings are provided: delicious fresh organic wood-fired sour dough bread provided by Francis Bread, home-made granola, jam, milk, juice, eggs, butter, bread, fruit and coffee and teas. A private deck soaks up the afternoon sun with a table, chairs and BBQ.

The Gallery Cabin is on the 2 1/2 acre property of Celia Duthie & Nicholas Hunt - with 1 other rental (Gallery B&B). Garden and forest views.

The cabin is a short walk from the nearby village Ganges, Churchill beach, and across the street from the prestigious Hastings House Hotel. There is a public bus service from the ferry terminals so guests can (if they wish) come to the island without a car and enjoy the island by foot, bus, kayak or rental scooter.

Salt Spring Island has an embarrassment of riches in art and music with many galleries, studios, and music venues. The Saturday Market, with farm produce, cheeses, and crafts, is a perennial favorite.

A good time to come to the island is often the off season, when the almost always temperate weather is fine for golfing, biking, walking, exploring the island or taking one of many excellent art and craft courses offered throughout the year.

Perfect stay for my workshops

The cottage was very much like subscribed in the listing. Perfect for one person who don’t need to cook a lot. Would have been a bit cramped to stay with another person for the amount of time I was there (over 10 nights).I would definitely consider staying here again another time!

Great place for a couple

We've stayed here before and we'll be coming back! A lovely little cabin that's just right (in our opinion) for a couple. An easy walk in to Ganges with all its' restaurants and shops, but it feels secluded and private. The hosts provide simple breakfast fixings. It is just enough for two, but no more. A wonderful base to enjoy Salt Spring Island.

Me and my dog

I had a quiet stay on the property. The sweet peas in the kitchen window were a nice touch. There were some basic items available to eat in the fridge, a microwave, toaster oven - that kind of thing. Everything was clean and in order. I was with my dog, and liked that there were a few trails and places where we could take short walkabouts (on leash of course) around the property.

Charming property that is close to downtown but feels like you are very secluded. Loved the amazing breakfast fixings. They were delicious!

Perfectly small

Great location a short walk to Ganges, 15-20 minutes, this is good for couples who are used to sharing cozy spaces. The cabin is quite comfortable but the kitchen is essentially one at a time. The hosts are next door and very helpful. We love it; this was our second stay and we plan to return.

Lovely stay at 100 year old cabin

My partner and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Celia's - as many others have mentioned, it was a cozy cabin equipped with everything needed - included all the items that made for two delicious breakfasts. It was close to Ganges and the shops but a short distance really to go anywhere on the island. We would recommend it. :)

Fantastic Location and Property

First time visiting Salt Spring Island and we had such a great trip! The 100 yr old cabin was super cozy and comfortable and location was fantastic - 5-10 minute walk to the beach and also to one of the local pubs. It was the perfect spot to return to after the day's sightseeing adventures!

Ganges stay

Beautiful property with lovely art walk through the woods. We stayed in the cabin which was comfy and cosy. I found the cabin rather dark and lighting poor. Weather was overcast much of the time which added to the dark of the room. They asked us to recycle but we did not have anything to recycle into. The bread was wonderful and the bakery next door was amazing

Beautiful, restful hideaway with everything provided

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. The cabin is beautiful, the bed comfortable, the setting green and restful, and breakfast foodstuffs are fresh, delicious and generously provided. The cabin is surrounded by gardens including an outdoor sculpture garden which is a pleasure to walk in. The location is convenient and the host friendly and helpful but non-intrusive. My dogs lived our holiday too and we will certainly return.

Perfect for two

This is a lovely small cabin carefully laid out to fit two. Despite the small space we didn’t feel squeezed and found it worked quite well. We really liked being walking distance to Ganges. The fresh bread and simple breakfast food was delicious. We’re pretty sure we’ll be back.

Perfect little cabin

Upon entering the cabin, it was more quaint than the pictures can show and it is on a lovely property with wonderful sculptures to take in. I could hear the rain on the roof and that was an immediate de-stresser. The bed and pillows were perfectly comfy. Very clean! It is a quick walk to Moby's pub and Ganges isn't that much farther...maybe another 10-15 minutes. In the morning, a 15-20 minute walk down Churchill will take you to a beautiful small beach (best done in the morning as it faces east). Nick and Celia were very accommodating! The fresh bread, awesome Nick-made granola and other breakfast food we really nice to have. The symphony of frogs at night made me wish I had more nights to enjoy them! Will definitely return.

Perfection - this cabin is very cute AND cozy!!!

The fridge was full of eggs, butter, yoghurt, orange juice, and milk. The best part was the amazingly delicious loaf of homemade bread the owners left for us. Such a gem of a place ! Stay here for sure - perfection! Also, the cabin is walking distance to a great pub called Moby's, Hastings House Bistro, and the town centre!!!

Private and quaint

This little cabin is a lovely place to stay for a few days. It is walking distance to a beach and Ganges and is on a lovely property with an art gallery and sculpture park. The cabin is adorable and has everything you need except for a stove. There is a bbq with a burner, a microwave and a toaster oven so if you are planning to cook keep that in mind. Otherwise, you have everything you need including wonderful granola, bread, jam, eggs, milk, juice and yogurt. We tucked in and had all of the privacy we needed yet when we poked our heads out the world was not too far away. Just up the hill from Hastings House which has delicious food and a spa. All around a fantastic spot to get to know Salt Spring!

Cute little cabin in the woods, nicely decorated, good breakfast but not for arachnophobes

Nice breakfast of eggs, buns, orange juice, jam and milk. Coffee and tea also provided. Small but efficient kitchen with everything necessary to cook. Also a BBQ outside on nice deck. The washroom was clean and had a blow dryer but it was hard to control the water temperature in the shower. Comfortable bed. Overall relatively clean except for some spider webs hanging about. We did find numerous and various spiders including two very large ones. So not for those with arachnophobia.

Serene setting, yet close to town. Perfect basecamp from which to explore lovely Salt Spring Island

Charming little cabin stocked generously with breakfast goodies by very considerate and friendly hosts. Close enough to Ganges to walk or bike, and beach access at the end of the road. Lovely sculpture garden and art gallery outside your door. The owners provided useful tips for sightseeing and access points for hiking. The Gallery cabin was just right for my solo trip to the island, but there are more spacious options on site, such as the Glamping tent or the suite adjacent to the main house. I highly recommend this unique accommodation on this incredibly beautiful island!

About the host

Hosted by Celia Duthie

Host profile image
Your hosts Nicholas Hunt and Celia Duthie have been married for more than 30 years. We have 2 children and a cat. Much of our life was spent in the book business in Vancouver; now as well as the B&B we have a gallery of fine and landscape art. We love to cook, eat, walk, read, garden and play bridge.

Why they chose this property

We love our property because it is surrounded by garden and orchard, fields and forests and the house, cabin and gallery are tasteful and comfortable. Now on the property is Francis Bread - baking delicious fresh organic naturally leavened wood-fired sour dough bread - for our guests.

What makes this property unique

Visitors will enjoy the historical experience of the 100 year-old cabin and appreciate the art and studio furniture in the cabin. They can also enjoy the landscape art and sculpture on the property and the top quality artists in the Duthie Gallery. As hosts we can recommend restaurants, studios and excursions, and provide maps of trails for hikes and rambles.

The cabin is completely private, with a private entrance; guests will feel they're in their own place while staying with us.

There is always a good supply of current books and magazines available in the suite.

Visitors to our Gallery Cabin will also enjoy its close proximity to the shops, galleries and restaurants of Ganges village, and for lavish dining, the Hastings House hotel, directly across the street.
