About this property

*Perfect Waterfront Home* (Skegemog/Torch/Elk)

Need a getaway? Come stay at The Ravens' Nest on Lake Skegemog. Torch and Elk Lakes are only a short boat ride away. Elk Lake can be seen from the back yard and Torch River is directly across Lake Skegemog from the home. These Chain O’ Lakes are famous for their crystal clear, Caribbean blue waters.

Want to know why Lake Skegemog is the best choice? The water is warmer due to shallower shores, the lake is calmer and quieter with less boaters and homes, and it is in the center of Torch and Elk providing easy access to both.

Lake Skegemog is an all sports lake and is home to some of the best fishing in Northwest Michigan including an abundance of bass, white fish and perch. The Ravens' Nest is 6 minutes from Turtle Creek Casino, 15 minutes from Traverse City, and 30 minutes from Shanty Creek.

The area is known for Michigan’s finest golf courses (The Bear, Elmbrook, Shanty Creek, & Hawk’s Eye), summer water sports, winter snow sports, breweries, wineries, casinos, unique shops, museums, horse shows, and much more!

The Ravens' Nest is a ranch style home with 70’ of waterfront right out the back door. It has a long, paved driveway and is located on a dead-end street. The yard is large and grassy providing plenty of room for relaxation, lawn games, and bonfires. Step down to the water from the small sea wall or jump in from the dock! The water is crystal clear and beautiful. Walk from the shallow, smooth rock shore (bottom becomes sandy a few feet from shore) out to the sand bar. Launch your boat only a mile from the home!

As one of the closest homes to the water, you will have perfect views of the lake from the living room, master suite, or deck when staying at The Ravens' Nest. The home has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with a large living space. The living room has plenty of seating. The kitchen, larger than most on the water, is fully equipped with dishes, small and large appliances, cookware and anything else you may need.

Sleep soundly on a large king bed in the master suite, cozy pillow-top queen mattresses in 2 bedrooms or 2 twin double bunk beds in the 4th room. Each room has a full size closet and dresser for plenty of storage space. All bathroom and bedroom linens are provided. A washer and dryer are also included. A new grill, outdoor furniture, and a fire pit are available for your enjoyment.

If you grow tired of relaxing by the water, head to downtown Alden, Elk Rapids, or Traverse City for great restaurants, ice cream shops and boutiques. There is so much to do, and everything is so close … you will love staying at The Ravens' Nest!

Beautiful area and home. Plenty of room for the 7 of us. First time visiting the area and it was easy to get to Torch River and navigate through to Torch Lake. Would definitely stay again!

Relaxing lake views

Property was as described. We enjoyed the lake views and fire pit in the back yard. We were able to use the dock and rent a boat. It was fun to spend time enjoying Elk and Torch lakes as well. Thanks!

Great Time!

We've stayed at a number of different places on the area lakes over the years (Torch, Bellaire, Intermediate), but this was one of the best. Not a big or fancy house, but it was totally adequate for our crew and the site on Skegemog was beautiful. Communications with the host were excellent, and the house had pretty much everything we needed for the week. Recommended!

A Little Slice of Heaven

Our stay at the Raven's nest was very relaxing. The views of the lake just outside the back door were so beautiful and it brought a sense of peace. The firepit was spacious for our family to gather around. The house was very clean and comfortable and it was equipped with everything that you would need. If there was a question, Amanda responded very quickly and was very pleasant to work with. I would definitely stay here again!

Nice getaway

Stayed for a week and didn’t want to leave. Beautiful water. Nice to be able to use all three lakes. Cottage was older but well kept. Owners are working on additions and upgrades every year. I hope the next upgrade are the beds! The kids had a wonderful time playing in the water.

Everything We Needed

This place has everything we needed for a great vacation with 3 couples and 3 tweens. The porch, yard, and firepit overlook a private dock on Lake Skegemog. Elk Lake, Torch River, and Torch Lake are simply beautiful. The cottage has all the amenities we needed. The primary bedroom is private and roomy. The other bedrooms are smaller with thin walls. The kitchen is well-stocked, but on the small side. There is no parking on the grass, so we had to maneuver to get vehicles out. The amenities (aka lakes) make up for these minor issues. We would absolutely rent again.

Fall family reunion

The cottage is clean, the lawn is nice, and the lake water crystal clear. It was nice that 1 bedroom is at the far end of the cottage which is where we put the couple with the crying newborn. There were a total of 8 adults and 1 infant. The living room was rather tight but it was as advertised. The driveway was incredibly bumpy because of tree roots lifting up the pavement - if you have a low slung car (i.e. Miata or Corvette) it will not get by and you are not allowed to drive on the grass to get around it. The linen and kitchen provisions were sparse.

Another amazing stay at the Ravens Nest

This was our second year staying at the Ravens Nest and it was even better than last year! With the older bedrooms being updated, the kitchen opened up and remodeled, floors replaced, and driveway repaved, it is even better than before! So glad we already have a week booked for 2023 and can’t way until we can book for 2024.

Cozy peaceful cottage

Our stay was everything we expected. Ravens Nest was a cozy cottage. We enjoyed the use of the dock. We used it for the kayaks we brought along. We loved the fire pit. It also had beautiful sunrise views. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed. It even had an option of coffee pot or Keruig. I would definitely stay again. Hopefully next time we have a pontoon 🙂

Perfect lake house vacation spot

What a find! The Raven’s Nest was everything we hoped it would be. Location was superb, both for putting the boat in the water and for proximity to Torch and Elk Lake. The cottage was super clean and is very well equipped. There was nothing we needed that wasn’t available. We made very good use of the fire pit and grill. The outside was close to the water, so it wasn’t terrible taking all our stuff out to the boat every morning. The cottage is really cozy. There is ample room for everything with lots of seating in a cute living room ( with new furniture…not grandma’s cast offs)and a large table, plus island seating. The owners had a lot of games on hand which we had fun playing. I loved that the master suite was on the other side of the house. The owners were very responsive and extremely easy to deal with. We use VRBO several times per year and this was our best experience to date. A true “up north” experience with all the luxuries.

Great location!

Location was great, had issues with the garbage, when arrived on Saturday both container’s where in the road, pickup not until Tuesday but July 4th holiday pushed it back another day! Another problem was sleeping, made some changes in putting bunk beds in, pictures didn’t show that, some of us older people can’t get up to the top . Thanks

Good property but some management issues

We couldn't get in when we arrived. The instructions we received said entry was keyed to our phone number. That didn't work. The owners did not send their phone numbers in their messages, so I had to call VRBO to explain the problem. That was a hassle because VRBO cut off my call when they tried to put me on hold. Eventually VRBO reached the owners who called my phone and gave me a different code that worked. The second night, a man came after dark and started cutting the grass. It was 8:40 at night and dark out. His equipment was quite loud and it was irritating. My wife was mad. She went out and asked him to come back during daylight hours. He said he would return the next morning, but he didn't. We were left with having to sweep the grass off the deck and also having to sweep the grass up that got tracked into the house. Seriously, I have never seen a lawn service company that works after dark. They need to monitor their service providers better. The cleaners didn't set the security code so we could get in and the lawn service was irritating and clueless.

Amazing stay on Elk/Skeg/Torch Chain of Lakes

We had such an amazing time at the Ravens Nest that we already scheduled for next year! Amanda and Bob were amazing and responsive hosts. The boat hoist worked amazingly for our 19’ Chaparral and it was great to be able to just lower the boat into the water and go!

Wonderful vacation!

My husband and I stayed here with 6 of our friends, while the kitchen was a little tight it had everything we needed with the exception of dishcloths. We ended up having to purchase dishcloths and dish towels from Meijer. I only mention it so future renters can bring extra, also, if you don't want to do laundry bring extra bath towel because they only supply one per guest. The house was very comfortable, we spent most of our time on the water, on the spacious deck or by the fire pit at night. Location is great, very quiet and beautiful views! Boat lift was a real plus, easy access to Elk and Torch lakes! Would definitely book again!

Ravens Nest was perfect for our vacation!

Everything was just as described when we arrived at Raven's Nest! The sunrise view is AMAZING!! The water is shallow and warm and was perfect for wading and floating. The firepit was in the perfect spot to enjoy the sounds of the water and the beautiful night sky with all the twinkling stars. We ended every evening around the firepit and would recommend bringing a stadium blanket or throw as it did cool off in the evenings. The house was very well supplied with everything we needed. We are very used to packing our necessities when we stay at rental properties and we didn't really need to worry about anything at this home. There were plenty of pots, pans and utensils for cooking and storage containers for leftovers too! The table in the eating area was also perfect for card playing and board games. The television in the master suite and the living room gave us access to plenty of options on the rainy days. The location is remote yet very centrally located which was perfect for quiet morning walks but not too far from Meijer and other places to pick up necessities. The location is also very close to Traverse City and many wineries and the lighthouse. We would highly recommend this to anyone wanting a true lake home experience with beautiful clear water in a peaceful, relaxing neighborhood! Looking forward to our next visit!
