About this property
Desert Guesthouse - 10 Acre Property NW Tucson
Please note that due to local regulations the property is generally only available for 30 days or more. Please contact me for shorter stays.
This 10 acre property is located in the uplands of the Sonoran Desert. It is surrounded with majestic saguaros, ironwood trees and cactus abound. The property is in a pocket of natural desert yet just 5 minutes to I10 (Twin Peaks interchange). The guesthouse sits on its own private area and can barely see the main house. You may watch Harris and Redtail Hawks flying overhead, catch a glimpse of a great western owl or a bobcat and see the roadrunner and coyotes scampering the grounds. The hummingbirds winter here as well and if you supply the nectar in the feeders they will grace your presence. The roads are dirt however we are only approx. 1/4 mile to the nearest paved road. The area has horse ranches and you are likely to see the equestrians and cowboys strolling the roads along with a mule drawn cart on occasion. It is excellent for hiking and mountain biking. There are numerous golf courses nearby from the Ritz Carlton at Dove Mtn (along with the Gallery and Heritage Highlands) - to the local county course at Arthur Pack.
The guesthouse has a master bedroom with a king bed as well as a television. The second bedroom has a twin(w/ pop up trundle). All luxury linens are included. The greatroom/kitchen offers comfort to watch a smart 55 inch television. You can stream many channels. We offer fast WiFi - 200mbps download and 40 mbps upload speeds There is a fireplace in the greatroom. The living room and dining room are in the Arizona Room - a room that is glass on all three sides. This room is wonderful for reading and for watching the hummingbirds and desert wildlife coming and going. The main area of the guest house has bamboo flooring and the Arizona room is all Mexican Saltillo tile. Outside you will find 2 large covered porches, a flagstone patio and lighted ramada along with a BBQ grill. This house also has an oversized carport with a large laundry and outdoor storage room attached.
We are minutes to the U of A, downtown (Trolley) and less than 1.5 hrs to Sky Harbor airport in Phoenix. The Tucson airport is approx. 20 minutes away. Come relax and enjoy the dry warmth of the desert. Summers offer spectacular lightning events and wonderful sunsets. The heat is dry and the temps can drop 25 degrees in 15 minutes after a shower - which rarely lasts over 20 minutes.
Of course our winters are the 'high' season and what better place to escape the cold, damp weather. Late January - February will bring us the Tucson Gem Show (world’s largest) . We have several golf tournaments in February as well as the Tucson Rodeo Parade- the world's largest non motorized parade before the rodeo. El Tour de Tucson - Bicycle race in November is a world class event.
My husband and I live on the property and have been in Tucson for almost 40 years enjoying the southwest deserts. We are avid hikers and when not in Tucson you will find us escaping to the cool rivers of the western states or perhaps to the beaches of Mexico. We enjoy cooking, sharing recipes, tales of travels over a glass of wine. We can be quietly friendly or here to help you enjoy and plan your stay in the Tucson Desert.
Tucson is a great place to enjoy the out of doors and the multicultural heritage of the area.

Very neat, clean, visually pleasing.
The Casita was fabulously outfitted and the hosts are very gracious, helpful and friendly! We loved our stay in this very "remote" feeling of northern Tuscon with 25 minute access to downtown and 15-20 minute access to foothill hiking and biking on paved trails. The place is definately for people who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of a busy city yet close to everything! We will definitely be staying there again and again!
My wife and I stayed at Totolita for the month of January this year and had a wonderful time. It is a guesthouse that was very well appointed and had plenty of space for us as well as a great outdoor space. The privacy was fantastic. We were in the middle of a saguaro desert with few, hardly visible, neighbors, plus we saw plenty of wildlife. Our hosts were great to us and responded very quickly to any questions we had. We would stay there again in a minute.

Arizona at its best
Old west, desert, cactus, ranch style living, privacy, quiet, all the amenities with the exception of a full size queen bed with headboard. Fabulous hospitality. Best italian restaurant in North American within 10 minute drive. Tucson within 20 monites. Weather...perfect in January. Yes, we will be back!
What a beautiful, tranquil, and peaceful location! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was cozy, comfortable and inviting. The views were breath taking from the front and back porches. Our hosts were very friendly and made us feel right at home.

This was a lovely guesthouse in the middle of the fascinating Sonoran Desert.
This guesthouse was a wonderful place to stay while exploring Tucson and taking a break from the weather in Minnesota. It has a newly remodeled kitchen and comes fully equipped. The house was very clean and well maintained. The owners could not have been better hosts. They care about their guests and the property. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

5-star stay!!!
My stay at this lovely guest house was my best experience ever with a VRBO property - and with the owners. The house is lovely - lots of glass, light, comfortable space - felt totally at home. The house is immaculate and well equipped, with a wonderful sun room and outdoor seating and BBQ area. It is 10 minutes away from great shopping - food as well as a terrific outlet mall. The "ranch" is full of amazing wildlife - hummingbirds, huge rabbits, coyotes and even a javalina - all wonderful to watch and photograph. The grounds, neighborhood and views of the mountains are breathtaking. And I cannot say enough about the owners . They are delightful, fascinating, respectful of privacy, but included me in a number of their activities and parties - which was greatly appreciated. I consider them new friends. So again - 5 stars across the board. Without question.

nature at its best, clean and peaceful
I just spent two months in this wonderful rental, and hope to return. Clean, comfortable, easy to live in, with great hosts who live next door. I liked the location, it was easy to get to almost everywhere while being a little removed from the busyness of the city. Hummingbirds, roadrunners, hawks, horses, cattle are just a few of the things that I saw most days on my walks, along with classic Sanoran Desert botany. A well-appointed kitchen made it easy to cook, and the bed was great - something that's important to me. Good grocery shopping close by, with easy access to I-10 to get into the city quickly.
I can't say enough good things about Patty and Jim - they gave me the privacy that I wanted while quietly making sure that I had everything I needed and socializing when time permitted. They went out of their way to make my stay enjoyable, including small details like making sure I had a hot water kettle and my favorite cookware. They are excellent hosts, I couldn't have asked for better, experienced landlords who care about the comfort of their guests. And really nice folks.
I highly recommend this rental for a variety of reasons - location, nature, cleanliness, comfort, privacy, and caring owners. Five stars all the way!

Comfort and quiet
In the more rural sand-roads of northwestern Tucson, this guest-cottage/home is part of the owners adjacent 10-acre property but is completely private. Patty and Jim are perfect hosts. They are kind, helpful, responsive and friendly but not intrusive. Startup package of tea, coffee, fruits, flowers and candles etc is a delightful touch. Good grocery shopping within ten minutes but more plentiful retail therapy is 30-40 minutes away. The unit is professionally equipped without being cluttered. Spotlessly clean. Great WiFi and two TVs. It's as quiet as you could want. An attractive open plan, an Arizona room, WD, BBQ, FP, Queen bed and a (very firm) sofa bed in the den complete the picture of a great vacation spot for two. Loved it!

Solitude in the desert
This is a wonderfully peaceful vacation site. Patty and Jim are great; there when needed - not when not. The facilities are great. The kitchen is fully equipped as is the laundry room. We were leery of the dirt road described but found it to be no problem; actually smoother than many of the paved ones in Tucson. We usually stay in Ventana area but Oro Valley is more convenient to sightseeing, shopping, golf and the main highways (10 and 77). We hope to be back again soon.

Desert paradise!
I had such an amazing time at the guesthouse! Patty and Jim were wonderful hosts. Patty responded quickly to every question I had before I booked, and I felt so welcome from the first exchange of emails. The house feels like home, only in paradise. Perfect location, quiet, private, surrounded by the wonderful southern Arizona desert, yet close to everything you need to do and see in the Tucson area. Patty was an invaluable resource, she shared tons of useful information about outdoors activities, where to eat, shop & play, as well as “tips from a local”. I am so glad I discovered the guesthouse, explored Tucson, and that I made new friends along the way. Thank you Patty & Jim. I cannot wait to go back.

Far away feel, yet close to everything
We had a wonderful experience staying at the Desert Guesthouse. The location is extremely convenient to I-10, Dove Mountain, and other amentities in Marana, yet the property is on 10 acres of lush desert. The guest house itself is cozy and well equipped for anything you might need. I love to cook and the kitchen had everything I needed to make wonderful meals to enjoy outside, under the covered patio. Patty and Jim are excellent hosts, warm and friendly, with a wealth of knowledge about the area. I would definitely recommend this property to those who want to feel like being away from it all, yet still having it all.

About the host
Hosted by Patty Miller
My husband and I have been married for 40 yrs and are semi retired. We live on the property and take great pride in the area as well as the southwest US. We love to hike, travel, cook, and sample all that Tucson has to offer in in cultural and geographical diversities. We love to enjoy the beautiful sunsets with a glass of our favorite wines. We would love to have you join us and tell us about your travels. When we are not in Tucson we are traveling to places to see the out of doors, fly fishing, spending time on the water boating, kayaking, and rafting wherever it may take us.
Why they chose this property
We bought this property over 40 years ago and fell in love with the Sonoran desert. All the surrounding properties are on 3.3 - 30 acres. This area offers privacy and solace and it is unique in that you have quick access to the interstate, hospitals, and area shopping.
What makes this property unique
The guesthouse feels very secluded but the homes are all on 3 - 10 acre parcels with dirt roads. We are close to I10 and can get to downtown in 20 minutes. There is a lot of wildlife in the area strolling through, birds, coyotes, owls, javelina, bobcat.... and you may venture off on the numerous bike and hiking trails in the area.
