Sunsets!

We had a brilliant time visiting Andalusia thank you. We will be back to see so much more. The villa was spot on, had everything we needed. The hosts were great and accommodating of our late arrival. Juan was quick to reply to all our messages. Lovely guy! We enjoyed days around the pool and visiting the area. The adrenaline ride on the last 200m was even fun once we were sure. The pictures, though spectacular, do not even do justice to the views. Just amazing vista across the lake. We sat every evening just marvelling at the sunset. Thank you Juan and your family.

Great house with tremendous view in peaceful location

Well equipped and very clean property, exactly as described by friendly and welcoming owners - willing to help with anything. Stunning views and sunsets. Shaded areas for when the sun gets too much. A large, well equipped house in a quiet location with lovely views.

The house is as described and pictured - spacious, comfortable and very well equipped. Juan Carlos was a delightful host and that, combined with the comfortable, well equipped house, made for a lovely relaxing holiday. He was particularly kind to us when we had to postpone our holiday 2 years in succession due to Covid restrictions. The views from the terrace meant we spent lovely evenings gazing at the view. The swimming pool allowed us to cool down in the hot weather and there was always a shady spot to sit and enjoy the breeze when it got hot. It is a very quiet, rural area with lovely, scenic, white villages to visit. We had previously visited Cordoba before staying at the house and this made for a good split between city sightseeing and rural tranquility. There is very good supermarket – Mercadona – in Rute (15 mins away) where we were able to buy excellent supplies for when we wanted to cook or make ourselves salads etc. They also have a good range of ready to eat meals including fresh pizzas, pastas etc. The nearby local restaurant – El Charcon – serves wonderful Spanish food – ideal for meat and fish eaters, although there are non-meat options. Our view is that most portions would happily feed 2! Nice restaurants in Iznajar as well. An ideal place for people who want rural tranquility, although Iznajar and Rute are both within 15 minutes easy drive and it is possible to drive to Cordoba or Granada within about an hour or so. Definitely somewhere to return to.

Incredible property and location. The views from the outside terrace breathtaking.

We had a fabulous time at the villa. Peace and tranquility combined with good access to the surrounding tourist areas of Córdoba, Granada, Malaga and Antequera. The small town of Iznajar also worth a visit. We highly recommend this villa.

Lovely house with magnificent views

We had a wonderful time at Juan Carlos’s place! There was 10 of us - 6 adults and 4 children and the house was just the right size for such a group. There’s everything you need - plenty of pots and pans and cutlery, oven, microwave and a special equipment to make paella! Outside there’s a barbacue and we used it to grill some fresh fish. Washing machine proved very useful during our 2 weeks stay, espescially as some of us only had hand luggage. We even used the swimming pool though the water was still quite cold at the time of our stay in the first half of April. The view is the biggest asset of the house - watching a sunset every day was my favourite entertainment. Although there isn’t a proper garden at the property there are plenty of walking paths nearby offering beautiful views of the Sierra Subbettica and Iznajar. The house is quite secluded, located on a hill. If you want to get to the lake or Iznajar you probably need a car as it’s about 5km away on a hilly terrain. There’s a lovely restaurant nearby (40 min walk or few min drive), great supermarket is in Rute (about 15 min drive). Nearby town of Iznajar is beautiful and well worth a visit as well as Cabra, Lucena and Zuheros (a bit further away, highly recommend visiting nearby cave). We also visited lovely Cordoba, Grenada (about an hour drive) and magnificent Seville (2 hour drive). One day we went at the seaside - closest beach is in Malaga but we decided to go a little further (1.5 hour drive) to lovely Nerja which has a number of well maintained beaches. We also highly recommend visiting Subbettica Nature Reserve - the mountains and the nature are absolutely stunning and there are plenty of hiking and walking paths (ask at Tourist Information in Rute or Iznajar for tips). Few of us brought bikes and enjoyed cycling in the area - it is very safe as the locals are used to cyclists and there are signs everywhere. There are also paths for mountain bikes. In summary - there’s so much to do that we easily filled every day of our 2 week stay with activities and still hadn’t explored everything! The first couple of days and nights were rainy and cold and it took a while for the fireplace to heat up the house so that was a slight inconvenience, espescially given the fact that there were small children in the group. The other little problem was with hot water - it would take a while to get hot water from the tap. But overall we can’t complain. It was a beautiful stay! Thank you Carlos!

Summer 2020

We have just returned from a wonderful family holiday at Vesanilla. The villa is magnificent and the views are to die for. Every evening we sat at the amazing stone and glass dining table and gazed out over lake Iznajar. The villa was immaculate and everything you needed in place. I particularly loved the spanish type bbq . The pool was also amazing and cleaned every 3rd or 4th day by our wonderful hosts. The villa was very private and in a lovely quiet location but only a short drive from some beautiful restaurants. Rute has a very good supermarket for all your requirements about 15 min drive away. Thanks Juan Carlos for the privilege to stay at your beautiful villa and we hope to return and stay again.

Perfect “getaway from it all” holiday

The house was comfortable and spacious with amazing views of the lake and wonderful sunsets every night. We made full use of the barbecue and mainly ate outside gazing at the view. The swimming pool was well maintained and the table tennis table a great bonus. Our hosts were very welcoming and we really enjoyed a truly relaxing family holiday.

Stunning Views and Sunsets

We have just returned from a week in this lovely Villa. It was spacious, clean and such beautiful views that we spent all of our time outside. Our party consisted of seven adults and 2 small children and there was plenty of space and the Pool was much used. Evenings were spent watching beautiful sunsets and then stargazing, as the sky was so clear and no light pollution, it was beautiful. Rute was a short journey to the supermarket which had everything needed to stock up the pantry and fridge. We did have difficulty in finding the Villa but between the sat nav and google maps we found it. Juan Carlos and his wife were friendly, welcoming and provided us with plenty of support when required but not intrusive. The welcoming cerveza, jamon y queso was much appreciated after a long day of travelling, Thank you Juan Carlos for all your help and support during our stay.

Charming villa in an idyllic setting with stunning views!

We absolutely loved our stay for a week in this very charming and spacious villa with stunning views –especially the lake, olive groves and gorgeous sunsets. We found the place to be very clean and well equipped. Our only suggestion for improvement would be to add more comfortable bed mattresses. There were 4 of us (2 couples) and there was plenty of room to provide us privacy. Juan Carlos and his Mrs. met us on arrival and welcomed us with wonderful cheese. The location was specifically chosen and perfect for visiting many cities and towns such as Cordoba, Grenada, Malaga, Ronda, etc. We also enjoyed trips to the very close towns of Rute and Iznajar (especially the supermarket in Rute), and down to the lake, etc. Juan Carlos and his family were very friendly and we were able to stay in contact as necessary. Although Juan Carlos doesn't speak English, his son Ruben does, and we were prepared with our translation apps. And Ruben visited one evening and taught us about the family’s olive oil making business. A very enjoyable learning experience! This is indeed an idyllic place with very personable hosts. We were very sad to leave and highly recommend to others. Thank you to Juan Carlos and family for making our vacation extra special and memorable!

Peaceful location, fabulous views and authentically Spain

Ruben and Carlos were attentive hosts. We appreciated the welcoming beer, cheese and melon. It was a fabulous property with plenty of space although difficult to find, maybe a sign at the top of the steep driveway would be useful as you can't see the villa from the top. We managed not having a 4x4 but needed a car with a bit more power than our rental car. The villa is amongst olive groves on the side of a hill and away from it all, perfect for what we wanted. The views of the sunsets over the lake were glorious. The bread van was a delight.The supermarket at Rute was easy to get to and sufficient for our needs. We visited Alhambra and Cordoba both within easy reach and the town of Iznajar was charming. We also found horse riding within a short drive. All in all it was a superb holiday. Beautiful location, lovely house and welcoming owners.

We have just returned from a week in this lovely house, clean, spacious with fantastic views. There were 10 of us (adults and teenagers) and there was plenty of room to accommodate our group. Juan Carlos and family and dogs met us on arrival and were all really welcoming and hospitable. We spent most of our time at the house enjoying the pool with trips out to Rute, Iznajar, down to the lake and a drive through the mountains, stunning scenery and lots of olive trees. The beautiful skies and sunsets from the terrace and the moon and planets that were visible as well as shooting stars and fireworks just added to our very enjoyable holiday. Thank you to Juan Carlos and his family, this really is a lovely place.

The most wonderful place

We (our party consisted of 8 adults and 2 small children) had the most wonderful holiday here and cannot sing it's praises enough. The house is a great size, well equipped and in a stunning location. Admittedly the climb up (and down!) to the villa itself is a little steep but this is no reason to be put off from staying here. We spent a lot of time hanging out by the pool, playing table tennis, cooking and generally admiring the incredible view (the sunsets were beautiful). The town of Iznajar is well worth a visit as is the lakeside beach, Valdearenas, where you can hire pedalos, kyaks etc. We also couldn't have asked for a more hospitable host than Juan Carlos. In short, if you want a relaxing holiday in a beautiful location you will not go far wrong in booking this accommodation.

Amazing jewel in the mountains

Although the Villa was a bit difficult to find it was well worth it in the end. Juan and his family came to greet us within 5 minutes of us arriving and show us around the Villa, then they gave us lovely cold beer and some nibbles which were greatly appreciated!! The Villa itself was absolutely stunning, very very clean and well equipped as well as very spacious (there were 8 people in our party). The outside space was also stunning with views of the lake which the photos don't really do it justice. Also for those who don't like too much heat there were plenty of little shaded areas and we ate outside the whole time!! We were a short drive from Iznajar and Rute which had a supermarket and various shops etc which did us very well over the whole of our stay. Juan also arranged for a bread delivery man (Tony) to deliver bread to us every day or whenever we required it and this was amazing and all made by Tony before he came out and delivered it. We were situated in a very good spot with things to do and places to go all around us. We paid a visit to the lake for the afternoon and enjoyed hiring the boats and swimming in the lake which was magnificent and very reasonably priced as well. Juan and his family were very friendly indeed to the point that we are in regular contact with them and hopefully we will head back there next year all being well! Juan doesn't speak any English but his son Ruben did well with the little he knew and thank goodness for google translate!!! However, Ruben is presently studying English so that will be a great asset to them for their business. We had the pool cleaned regularly and the bedding was changed midway through our fortnight which was very much welcomed. All be it there is air-conditioning in the upper part and in the main living area in the house as well as fans in all of the rooms. Also a table tennis set on the patio which the teenagers very much enjoyed. This is very much an idyllic place to spend your holiday in with lovely people looking after you! If you don't like the peace and quiet though this is not the place for you but we thoroughly loved it ....only problem was that the holiday went too fast and we couldn't stay forever!!! Fingers crossed for next year!!!

Amazing House, great owners!

The house is so beautiful, alot of space, very nice pool and the views are to die for! Juan Carlos and his Mrs welcomed us with drinks and had a lovely chat. Only thing is that we highly advise you to arrive in day time because it is practically off road and sat nav won't find location of last 5 minutes to the house but Juan Carlos came and guided us at midnight. great people! would definitely be back soon!

A perfect holiday home!

We had a fantastic week in this beautiful house. The view of the lake, the mountains and the surrounding olive groves is simply stunning. As everyone else has mentioned, Juan Carlos and his family are incredibly welcoming and friendly. Ruben was brilliant as the translator! The house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and it was very clean, both inside and out. We really enjoyed the pool area and the sunsets from the terrace each evening were fabulous. Would highly recommend this home and would love to stay here again one day!

A lovely house in a beautiful location, with great owners

We had a fantastic fortnight here. Six adults and two young children enjoyed it tremendously. We had a warm and hospitable welcome from J. Carlos and his family, who brought food and drinks for our arrival. We loved just getting away from it all, taking in the views, the swimming pool and the weather. If you wanted to explore more there's plenty to do but a quick trip to Granada and another to the beach was enough for us. We definitely recommend it - certainly if you are keen to get away from the hustle and bustle (and the masses) of the more touristed coast.

Fabulous Andalusian Villa - Highly recommended

We loved La Vesanilla from the moment we arrived and were greeted by Juan Carlos and his lovely wife and son. After an hour's drive from Malaga we were very grateful for the beer and tapas they provided when they met us on arrival! This villa is located among the finest rural locations of all of Andalusia. Set high up in the hillside, it has gorgeous views of Lake Iznajar and the surrounding olive groves. Be prepared for a bit of an adventure on the final approach as there's a steep climb up to the villa through an olive grove before dropping down the last piece of the driveway (but no need for four-wheel drive!). It's worth it though as, once through the gate, you enter into a separate secluded and tranquil world. The pool area is a sheltered sun trap in the afternoon and the main patio in front of the villa is perfect for a late lunch while enjoying the views. The night skies are very dark and perfect for after-dinner stargazing. It's ideal for groups of friends sharing (like us) or bringing the whole family. Kids would love it. We found it to be a perfect base to explore the beautiful countryside, visiting Cordoba and Sevilla (longish but very easy drives), as well as nearby Iznajar, Antequerra and Rute. The villa is very spacious, comfortable and immaculately maintained by the owner and his family who are close by if needed. However, we found there was absolutely everything we needed during our stay. Oh, and we loved the traditional Spanish ambience of the property. Next time we come we'll stay closer to the villa as we now know there is much more to see in the nearby Subbetica region. Juan Carlos, thank you, we'll be back!

Pleasant stay here!

We stayed at Juan‘s house for a couple of weeks in the summer and really enjoyed it! The house is spacious and leaves more than enough room for everybody. Our personal highlights were the two terraces on the upper floor and at the front porch, both with beautiful views of the lake, especially during sunset. The pool is big as well and nicely designed with steps rather than a ladder and a beautiful floor. Personally, we did not use the indoor dining table, but in the rare case of bad weather it should also provide a nice alternative to the outside terrace. Lastly, the family of Juan were the most welcoming hosts imaginable, they came from time to time in order to clean or do maintenance work on the pool, sometimes they even brought us fruit or local goods, which we really enjoyed! All in all we can only recommend Juan‘s house and still have a lot of beautiful memories from our vacation there!

Vacaciines en Familia

Hola a todos, Hemos estado una semana en la casa de Juan Carlos y la estancia ha sido excelente. La casa es muy comoda y mucho mas bonita de lo que se aprecia en las fotos. Hemos estado 10 personas y no falta de nada. La piscina fenomenal y hay que decir que la casa cuenta con aire acondicionado en todas las estancias, fundamental en estas fechas. En definitiva, hemos pasado una semana en familia agradable y tranquula segun lo previsto. El entoeno es muy bonito y la ubicaciin de la casa te permite visitar ademas de Iznajar, Cordoba, Granada, Malaga que esta a una hora en coche y Jaen o Ronda que estan a una hora y quarto si os apetece mucho turisteo. Los anfitriones, tanto Juan Carlos.como su mujer han estado pendientes de todo y han acudido rapodamente cunado ha sido necesario asi que muchas gracias por vuestra dedicacion.

Magnifique séjour

Magnifique villa

Nous avons passé de magnifique vacances dans cette villa en montagne. Il y a une vue incroyable surtout au coucher de soleil. Il n’y a rien à dire sur la propreté de la maison et des équipements mis à disposition. Quant à l’hôte et sa femme, ils ont été très gentils, patient, à l’écoute du moindre problème. Ein echter Geheimtipp

Wir wurden auch zur späten Stunde sehr herzlich begrüßt. Der Vermieter war sehr freundlich und stets zur Stelle, wenn wir etwas Wissen wollten. Das große Haus war sehr gut ausgestattet und absolut sauber. Am Pool und am Esstisch gab es viele Schattenplätze. Der Blick von der Veranda war atemberaubend. Wir haben jeden Abend den wunderschönen Sonnenuntergang und den klaren Nachthimmel genossen.

Wunderbare Villa mit phantastischem Ausblick!!

Das Haus ist in einem hervorragendem Zustand. Handwerklich ist es wunderbar hergerichtet. Wir haben uns zwei Wochen lang rundum wohlgefühlt. Vom Pool aus kann man die Sonne zwischen den Hügeln untergehen sehen. Juan ist ein toller Gastgeber - per WhatsApp/SMS stets erreichbar. Die Umgebung bietet Möglichkeiten des täglichen Einkaufs (Mercadona), tolle Restaurants und auch mehrere Tankstellen (auch mit DKV). Für Tagesausflüge sind die Städte Malaga, Granada und auch Sevilla mit dem Auto sehr gut erreichbar und eine Reise wert! Vielen Dank für den tollen Urlaub, Juan!
