Beautiful lower level of custom-built log home located on 40 acres between Nemo & Sturgis in the heart of Vanocker Canyon. Private entrance/exit to the lower lever. We are a couple in our sixties and we live on the main level. One bedroom with two sets of queen-over-queen bunk beds. Full gourmet kitchen with granite countertop, 60" HD TV, DVD, cable, WiFi, log pool table, huge luxury bath with jetted tub, separate shower & private commode, propane barbecue grill & outdoor dining, hot tub just steps away, trout pond (catch & release is free - a small fee applies for keeping fish), parking right outside your door. ATV rentals nearby (free trail maps available); direct access to Forest Service trails. Brand new washer & dryer added November 2022! A double Caribbean hammock hung between two trees is the ideal spot to take a nap while communing with nature! Wildlife abounds in this area! You will see deer, wild turkey, bald eagles, elk and much more. The coyotes will serenade you from a distance every evening. We have several bird feeders and bird houses on the property. Mountain blue birds are everywhere and will amaze you with their beautiful song and their brilliant blue color! In August of 1874 General George Armstrong Custer camped in this valley. You will be experiencing history! The book describing Custer's expedition is provided for your enjoyment. History buffs will love it! With National Forest on three sides, this is also a great place for hiking and ATV-ing. Direct access to Kelly Spur Road which connects with over 3500 miles of ATV trails. Towels and sheets are provided. We provide coffee, tea, flour, sugar and basic spices. The kitchen is equipped with plenty of dishes, silverware, glassware, pots, pans, utensils, crockpot, dish soap, napkins & paper towels. The all-new stainless steel appliances include refrigerator with ice-maker, five burner stove, oven, microwave & dishwasher. Granite countertops in kitchen and beautiful cast concrete in the bath. Plenty of thick, fluffy towels are provided, as well as soaps, and a hairdryer. Beach towels are provided for the hot tub. Our world class trout pond is filled with huge rainbow trout. Make sure to check out the photos! We provide fishing poles, or you are welcome to bring your own. There is a fire pit down by the pond, as well as a charcoal grill and picnic tables. It's the perfect place to relax and unwind after a day of sight-seeing in the beautiful Black Hills! PLEASE NOTE that there are dogs and cats (the cats are NOT allowed inside) on the property...if this is a problem for you, please consider choosing another property. Valentines Get Away

Our stay was fantastic! My wife and I loved everything about this place. The location has amazing views and wildlife that make you feel so far off the beaten path. The house was comfy and easy to fit right home. What truly made this experience was our hosts. Margret and her husband Derito were so sweet and kind. They checked in on us, made us pumpkin cake, and were truly so kind. It was clear they take so much pride in their space and making guests feel welcome. I will absolutely be visiting again!

Great Stay!

This property is amazing. The home itself is very cozy and has everything you need for your stay. The surrounding area is very peaceful and beautiful. We had a great time fishing in the pond and spending time with the residents (both animals and people). We felt like family while we were there. Hopefully we can return soon!

A PERFECT Experience

Words cannot describe how much we enjoyed our stay, between the hot tub, pool table, and fishing pond, our kids were in heaven! The kitchen space made it a breeze to cook meals, and the laundry facilities allowed me to return home without any laundry to do. Dorito cooked us a trout one of my daughters caught from the pond, and Margarets homemade brownies lasted a matter of hours. A central location to all the 'must-sees' of South Dakota, this spot is a haven-like retreat. Thank you for your hospitality Margaret and Dorito, we are planning a return trip next year to visit spots we didn't have time for!

Do yourself a favor and stay at this home away from home! Margaret and Derito create the perfect South Dakota vacation experience for you- they are the perfect hosts. They provide a lot of extras- wine on arrival, fresh baked brownies and even preparing trout that we caught in their pond! It is truly a little slice of paradise in the Black Hills and also has a bit of history tied in with General Custer stationing his men on their property during a short time leading up to the battle of the Little Bighorn. We hope to make it back to Nemo someday!

Great place to relax and unwind

Our stay was perfect. The hosts are wonderful people and gave us a few tips on places to go with our little girls. We absolutely loved the place. Beautiful, quiet family friendly property

We were very impressed with the private, serene setting where we felt like we were in the wilderness with all the comforts of home. Hosts were very friendly, hospitable and accommodating! Hot tub while watching deer walk through the woods and meadow was a big treat. Definitely recommend this location and will definitely stay here again if we vacation in the black hills again!

Three of us from Pennsylvania stayed here for 1 week. We had an absolutely perfect stay from the moment we arrived! Margaret and Dorito are very special people who are committed to making sure their guests come first! Unfortunately, we were away traveling and exploring the epic scenery from sunrise to late at night and have hoped to have spend more time with them. Beautiful!

The property was absolutely beautiful, quiet and peaceful! Our host were fabulous! There was wildlife in the area, turkeys, deer and two majestic bald eagles! It was a central location for us to get to where ever we wanted to go.

We had an awesome time that was beyond our expectations. This place is beautiful and is in a perfect location to visit everything in the Black Hills. Terrific getaway for the family. Everything was low key which was perfect. The scerene wooded hills and the valley, comfortable chairs by the pond, and the clear night skies from the hot tub where we've never seen so many stars will be the things we remember most from this trip. Visits from the host's cat and dog, many rounds of 8-Ball on the nice pool table, and the very comfortable living conditions of the basement also leave their mark. The hosts are extremely sweet and accommodating, even stopping by with some well received brownies and ice cream. Love the property and highly recommend!

The best part of an amazing vacation!

Our family absolutely loved staying at Custer Camp. Margaret and Derito are very gracious and it was a pleasure to meet them. The home and property are so beautiful and perfect, like out of a painting. The trout pond is incredible and the home is clean and fun with plenty to do inside and out. We wished we could stay another week just to hang out at the cabin.

Picture Perfect

This place really is picture perfect, it’s that beautiful. Two of the best host I have ever met in my lifetime. I would have loved to stay another week, the weather was fabulous, the scenery was amazing. It’s a quiet,comfortable, peaceful place to relax and just enjoy life. The trout pond is exactly what they say it is, fully stocked, I fished the day before we were to leave,caught a very nice trout. Mr Bonicelli not only cleaned the fish, he sealed it air tight, put it in his freezer, the next morning he give me a cooler put the fish in it, packed it with ice and frozen ice bags for my 22 hour trip back home. I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a place to stay in this neck of the woods, you will not be disappointed. I want to thank the Bonicelli family agin for their hospitality. Check there place out you will love it

Awesome experience!

House was very neat and clean, and the yard simply beautiful! Enjoyed our time spent at the cabin just as much as the time out and about! Love, loved sitting by the water fall and pond. Hosts were exceptional, giving us plenty of space and privacy, but checking in occasionally and visiting also…even delivering fresh brownies and cucumbers! And filling the hot tub especially for us. Definitely recommend!

Such a relaxing stay in a beautiful area. The property and home is absolutely beautiful. 30 minute drive or so to Rapid City which has restaurants and grocery stores. The hosts were terrific and available if needed, and the bottle of wine upon arrival was such a thoughtful addition to an overall great stay!

Why they chose this property

The Black Hills area is nick-named "God's Country" for a reason…there is nowhere as beautiful and pristine! There is so much to do winter, spring, summer and fall! Located on 40 acres, Custer Camp 1874 is perfectly designed to be quiet and relaxing, while providing the ideal base location for exploring and enjoying the Black Hills. Just 25 miles west of Rapid City and only 12.5 miles south of Interstate 90, it is easily accessible by air or by car/vehicle. Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Custer State Park are not-to-be-missed stops. Deadwood and Lead with their rich history, skiing, snowmobiling and gambling are just minutes away. Fishing in our spring-fed trout pond and stargazing from the hot tub are always highlights for our visitors!

What makes this property unique

Our spring-fed pond is filled with gorgeous rainbow trout. Because it is spring-fed, it rarely (if ever!) freezes over and is enjoyable year 'round. Our property is just 1.6 miles from Wonderland Cave and just 4 miles from Dalton Lake. There is so much to do nearby! We are located just 12.5 miles south of Sturgis, making this an ideal location to experience the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. We are located just off Vanocker Canyon Road and have direct access to the 3500 miles of Forest Service trails. Area ATV rentals (seasonal) and access to NFS trails. The hot tub is the perfect place to relax and stargaze. It has a blue tooth for you to connect your own iPod/cell phone and listen to music while soaking. Local wildlife is plentiful - deer, turkey, elk, bald eagles, golden eagles and much more frequent our property.
