Il Gobbo is a fabulous holiday house close to the beautiful city of Lucca, Tuscany. This traditional Tuscan farmhouse, set in the midst of olive groves, wildflower meadows and vineyards, is part of an organic smallholding/ agriturismo. 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, sleeps up to 14 people; 11 adults, plus three children under 12 yrs. All bedrooms have air conditioning. Comfortable and welcoming, the 300m2 house is built on two floors and has been sympathetically restored, maintaining its original structure and charm.

Casa il Gobbo has an enormous garden, 14m long saltwater pool, large children’s play area, relaxation area with sun loungers, ample shade, spa hot tub, barbecue and wood fired pizza oven. The covered veranda with two wooden tables is a great place to enjoy an alfresco breakfast or dinner, surrounded by the colours, sounds and scents of the Tuscan countryside.

Ideally positioned for visits to Lucca and Tuscany’s historic centres of art and culture: Capannori motorway exit is just 11km away. Reach the Mediterranean coastline and beach in 30 mins; Garfagnana and the rugged peaks of the Apuan Alps in 50 minutes. The local road from the house leads up through ancient villages to Pizzorne, a hilly area where the woods are perfect for hiking, or picnicking, and which offers spectacular views.

Our family carefully restored Casa il Gobbo and has let it as a holiday home since 1987. We continue to make it even more sustainable. Recent eco-friendly upgrades include installing a low energy air conditioning system, solar panels for hot water and converting the swimming pool to saltwater. Our family continues to oversee every aspect of our guests’ stay to ensure they have the best experience and most relaxing holiday possible.

Outstanding villa in a perfect location in Tuscany

We had a fabulous time in this luxurious villa. The property is huge giving each family member their own space to relax. The bedrooms were spacious with very comfortable mattresses and plenty of bathrooms. Each room had an incredible view of the Tuscany countryside. The villa is surrounded by a vineyard and olive trees with the relaxing sound of birds every morning. The kitchen has just been renovated and has all of the utensils you need to feed a large family. The swimming pool is large and was the perfect temperature for swimming / playing. The jacuzzi is beautifully situated under a vine with a wonderful view to relax in the evenings. Pisa, Lucca and Florence are a short car journey away to visit. There are over 50 vineyards and villa’s to visit close by. I would recommend a trip up the mountain as the views of Tuscany are spectacular. A large super market is only 10minutes away (Esselunga). The owner (Elisa) was so friendly and helpful. She was easily contactable and very eager to ensure we had a good time. We had the pleasure to enjoy the olive oil, jam and wine made on the property. They were outstanding. We are most grateful to Elisa and we definitely visit again in the future. This villa is perfectly situated to explore Tuscany and would highly recommend.

What a fantastic property

From the minute Elisa contacted us with directions until we left she could not have been more helpful - we loved the house, everything had been considered and we were all so impressed - the views are amazing, the pool is great, the kitchen so well stocked with every utensil you could need. The electric lawnmower gave us a surprise on the first night but we grew to like watching him do his rounds! My only reservation is letting anyone else know how fantastic this property is and not being able to book again! Thank you Elisa - we had a great holiday.

Wonderful 3 generation family holiday

Elisa was a very welcoming and helpful host. Non intrusive but available if needed. The highlights of Il Gobbo for our family group of 10 were the fabulous swimming pool with hot tub jacuzzi and the very large modern kitchen. The remainder of the house is traditional which we like. There are good restaurants and pizza places nearby and the bar in the village a short walk away makes you welcome.

I love this place!

Always sceptical about pictures on a website but on arrival the villa proved itself and more so. Amazing new kitchen, close to the outside dining table. The pool is fab and the jacuzzi, which of course we never said we’d use, was lovely, with a view to die for. All the bedrooms were fantastic, bathrooms too and the air con a god send at times. The decor is traditional (which we liked) and the lovely new kitchen is a great addition. Well stocked with all you could need. The owners always replied quickly to any questions and were helpful with questions about the local areas. Would I go again? 100%! Make sure you buy their olive oil, wine and, if you like onions, they’re chutney too…

An amazing Villa with real character

This was a great Family Villa with real character, I would say that the pictures on the site do not do it justice as they do not show the quirky side to its character with the decor inside. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Villa during the week we stayed. The Villa was about 15 mins drive from Lucca and about 5 mins drive to the closest cafe and restaurant but remote enough to have real privacy and fantastic views across Lucca from the terrace especially at night. It was great to hear the farm animals in the area around us and it all added to the experience, however at night we turned on the air conditioning and shut the windows so as not to be woken up by the cockerel . We used both the BBQ and the Pizza Oven for some great home cooking, although not used I understand the family can cook for you as well on request. The hot tub and pool were great for spending time in the day and evening and cleaned regularly. Elisa was amazing and so friendly and always available if we needed any help with anything or advice. Both Loretta and Elisa gave us a tour and we were able to sample the honey straight from the hive still on the honeycomb.. Loretta was there to say goodbye and we were all sad to leave. All of our family had a great time and would certainly book again.

Superb Villa In A Stunning Location

Our three families came together for our annual holiday and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Il Gobbo. The villa was extremely spacious and very well appointed. Much thought had gone into the Villa with lots to do and everything we could possible need provided which isn't always the case. The family were extremely helpful and we enjoyed a number of their recommendations for visits and eating out, as well as trying the home made pizza and olive oil. All in all a brilliant experience and would definitely stay again and recommend. Many thanks.

Excellent Experience

From the moment we drove to the gate of the property we were amazed by the breathtaking views and authenticity of the place. Loretta, Giuseppe and Elisa welcomed us and made us feel at home. Their hospitality and generosity were exceptional. The house is a renovated property with the charm of old Tuscany and all the amenities we could ask for. Both the indoor and outdoor spaces are very well maintained and spotless. The owners were very attentive to our needs and suggested local businesses and attractions. We were lucky enough to sample local honey and olive oil produced on the property. One of the most memorable experiences was making pizza in the wood oven! It's a very nice place for families with children and for adults. Thank you to Il Gobbo Family for an outstanding experience. We will hopefully be back soon!

one of my favorite places in the world

I´ve been with my family at Casa Il Gobbo several times during all season (except from winter) and all of us love that place so much for several reasons: Il Gobbo is located in the hills of Segromingno in Monte - when you lie at the pool or sit on the terrace you have a wonderful view all over Lucca with all the olive trees and the village`s church in front...it`s Tuscany as you know from all the pictures- just better because of all the smells and noises of nature. The building has got a kind of farm-style, but offered all the comfort we needed . Il Gobbo has got a big kitchen with a gas cooker- so it`s possible to cook for a couple of people and have a great dinner at home. We liked it so much that we didn't make it to a restaurant during our last stay, although there are plenty of good restaurants around Segromingno. We also used the fireplace inside during our last stay. But in hot summer the house is still cold during the day, which was very important during our other stays. In summer it gets really hot there, but it`s very nice that there`s always some wind at the hills so you feel much better at the house than in the cities. The only problem during hot days can be the horse flies, but if you dry yourself at once when you get out of the pool and use repellent you can handle it. I really, really love that place...it's one of my three favorite places in the world just beside a little beach town in brazil and a spiritual place in New Zealand....so it`s a big race where Il Gobbo gets one of the best ranks;) But you have to be careful- if you wanna see a lot of Tuscany: it might be not possible, because you maybe prefer to stay at the house, in the garden, at the pool,...:)

Everything Simply Perfect

We loved our stay in Villa Il Gobbo! The group was formed of 11 People, 6 Adults and 5 Children. The big garden all fenced is perfect, especially if you have a dog like we do. The swimming pool is very big and the children loved the trampoline. Inside the house all the rooms are very spacious, the kitchen is very equipped. The hosts, Loretta and Elisa were super kind with us! We will come back! Peter

House with awesome view

Owners were super nice family, facilities were as described. Property was clean and interesting with history. Decoration and amenities (incl. some games, tableware, towels etc) were plenty and nice. Surroundings and view were beautiful. Nothing to complain. Nice surprise was horse and pony in the backyard and a turtle. Very relaxing to lay in the warm jakuzzi and enjoy the beautiful mountains around.

Beyond Expectations

This was our first trip to Italy and there were twelve people in our group, six couples. The villa Casa il Gobbo was an excellent choice for us. The pictures on the web-site were good but we were overwhelmed when we arrived at the villa. The surroundings were breath taking. The grounds, swimming pool and hot tub were beautiful. The villa was magnificent, everything was immaculate and well maintained. Our hosts Loretta an Guiseppe were great hosts, their hospitality and kindness during our stay at Casa il Gobbo will always be a memorable part of our vacation in Tuscany. We all agreed that visiting Tuscany was the best part of our trip to Italy and staying at the villa was the highlight of our vacation. Loretta also arranged for a cook to come and cook for us one evening. We would highly recommend this for everyone who stays at the villa. We had a wonderful night and the food was excellent, there was plenty and we had enough left for another meal. We did many trips up the hills and the view was always spectacular. We also visited Florence, Pisa and Lucca. Lucca is a beautiful walled city and the market on Saturday was great fun. We found the restaurants, supermarkets in the area all excellent. Il Gobbo - Fantastico!

The web site description of Il Gobbo is good, but the property is better! 9 of us stayed at Il Gobbo (3 couples and a family of 3 with a 9 year old boy), there was still room for more people. Everyone felt is was the best property we had stayed at in all of our vacations in Tuscany. The home is absloutley magnificent, everything works perfectly, even the espresso machine! It was immaculately clean and well maintained. The spa is at least as good as the view from it! The serenity of the property is probably its biggest asset, although inside the home is superb as well. Loretta and Guiseppi are magnificent hosts who live close by if you need any assistance, such as where can you get the best local wine and seafood, etc! We have never had such good customer service. We will definitely stay there again and have already begun recommending it to our friends.

Paradise Found

Paradise! That is the only word I can use. We shared the house with 2 other families. There were 14 people in total (6 adults, 2 teenagers, 2 tweenagers and 4 kids). The house provided plenty of space and privacy. There was something for everyone. There were many outside activities including the pool, hot tub, deck chairs, swings, a playhouse, pingpong, horses to pet, and trees to climb. There was never a moment when anyone said, "I'm bored." We loved the dining areas - 2 outside and 1 inside that fit everyone. Loretta was kind enough to arrange a cook to come in and make fabulous dinners for us. The price was quite reasonable considering the amount of people and quality of food. The owners came every morning to be sure we were comfortable. The house has so much character. It felt warm and homey. The kitchen was very well equipted and had lots of the basics for us to use. My only issue was the lighting was dim for reading at night. If you like to read, bring a book light. We were able to do several daytrips -Pisa, Florence, Lucca. They were convenient. I recommend that you take the train into Florence. The car was a pain. The towns were lovely, but the Il Gobbo was the best part of the whole trip. I can't wait to return!

Best Vacation We've Ever Had!!!

Our week in Tuscany began with a warm welcome from Guiseppe and just got better! Il Gobbo is a beautifully maintained villa with a stunning view over Lucca and the surrounding hills. We enjoyed sipping wine (thoughtfully provided for us from a nearby vineyard) and watching the gorgeous sunsets from the state-of-the-art hot tub! The kids had a fabulous time feeding the horse, swinging, swimming and playing ping pong (sadly, the grass was still growing on the soccer field)! The property is very large and was perfect for our dog since it is fenced. The villa exuded warmth and authenticity with its beamed ceilings and antique furnishings. We were thrilled to have a dining table that would seat all of us (14). Antonia came twice to make us delicious Italian meals, and she made so much food that we had left overs! We went into Lucca several times and delighted in bicycling around the ramparts. Both Florence and Pisa were a short drive, but we abandoned our plans for any other sightseeing to remain at Il Gobbo and soak in the Tuscan sun and serenity! We felt as if we'd experienced Tuscany like a native--so much better than staying at a hotel or resort!! We've already inquired about coming back in the summer... Grazie Loretta and Guiseppe!

Peaceful and lots of space

We loved Il Gobbo! We spent 3 weeks at house with 2 other couples, which was perfect. We all had our own part of the house. They have lots of beautiful dishes, glasses for an elegant dinner at large dining room. Elisa was so helpful with information about house, area and gave us great places to go visit. She set up tour of where they press the olives. We had a simple problem with dryer, and it was fixed same day. The outdoor area is great, I loved having my coffee at 16-foot outdoor table, looking at the beautiful view of Lucca. They helped setup chef to cook at house several times. The pool was a little cold to get into but after a few laps it was refreshing. Next time we go it will be with all our children and grandkids. Thank you, Loretta, Mario and Elisa,

Fantastic farmhouse in the Tuscan hills

We stayed for 10 days with extended family. Gorgeous views, wonderful modern kitchen, private saltwater pool, wonderful amenities for family vacations. A pool, a soccer field, swings, a small playhouse for kids and a lawnmower robot that kept the grass down. Best of all, there was AC in every bedroom since it was extremely hot. Highly recommend the place.

We really enjoyed staying at this property after being in the hectic environments of Rome and Naples. RELAX and Enjoy to countryside and vistas from this well furnished escape. Dream come true in Tuscany

We had the most amazing dream come true vacation at this beautiful villa! The Villa is absolutely gorgeous, spacious, clean, and charming. We were a group of 8 adults and 2 kids. Everyone was thrilled with it. Elisa was wonderful and so helpful. She organized a chefs dinner for us and massages at the Villa. They were both phenomenal. Our only complaint was that we did not have long enough there and didn’t want to leave! We can’t wait to go back and the olive oil is also delicious!

Alla grande!!

Abbiamo passato qualche giorno ospiti de “il Gobbo” per festeggiare Capodanno, eravamo un gruppo di 4 famiglie con bimbi tra i 7 e i 10 anni. È andato tutto benissimo!! Elisa (figlia della proprietaria) gentilissima e disponibilissima!! Casa immensa e dotata di ogni confort, compresa piscina idromassaggio riscaldata per 4/5 persone vicino alla piscina (fatto bagno anche nella piscina fredda!!), attrezzature per la cucina disponibili in quantità, idem per asciugamani, coperte, lenzuola e cuscini!! Spazio cucina molto ampio e confortevole. Fantastico camino con lunga tavolata per i giochi da tavolo e angolo divani molto sfruttato dai bambini!! Stupendo poi tutto lo spazio all’esterno, poco sfruttato a causa del tempo, ma ci torneremo sicuramente d’estate per sfruttarlo!!

Lucca is one of Tuscany’s most beautiful cities. The historic centre, surrounded by imposing walls dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries, offers visitors a range of attractions from architectural features to traditional food. Its modest size means Lucca can be explored on foot, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the treasures in its historic centre. From Roman times to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, Lucca has kept much of its history, and many of its traditions, intact. Once known as the “city of a hundred churches” Lucca offers several tours to discover unique architectural treasures. Piazza Anfiteatro, the church of San Frediano, the Guinigi Tower, Piazza San Michele, Porta San Gervasio gate and Villa Guinigi are just a few of the interesting sites that the city offers. Its strategic position makes it an ideal base for reaching other Tuscan cities, famous for their art and culture, and popular tourist attractions.

Surrounded by olive groves, wildflower meadows and vineyards, with an enormous garden, to enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside. Take a refreshing dip in the saltwater swimming pool with springboard (14m x 6.3m, max depth 2.40m) - for safety and peace of mind for those with young children, the pool is enclosed by a fence and gate. Spacious area with sun loungers for complete relaxation. Luxuriate in the spa hot tub year-round. Children’s play area, for children of all ages, includes 5-a-side football pitch, swings, ping-pong table, and a wooden play house.

Large, covered veranda at the front of the house, conveniently located next to the kitchen, has tables for dining. The spectacular view, especially at sunset, makes for truly memorable dinners. Outdoor barbecue and wood-fired pizza oven are great for holiday cooking. Top tip: buy ready-made pizza dough at the local bakery, perfect for impromptu pizza parties.
