A truly wonderful spot

We travelled as 2 families, 5 adults 2 teens and a 5 yr old and there was more than enough space to accommodate us comfortably. All rooms were clean and of a very good size, master bedroom was huge, kitchen was great, very big with all mod cons. But it was the pool that took top honours, we had 8 in the pool at one time and it didn't feel a squeeze. I spent ages looking for the right pool as my daughter loves the water but is severely disabled but the stairs into pool made it easy for me to support her in and out. The other kids just loved it and literally they were in there at every opportunity 10/10 The location is very rural and in the 36°c heat just walking to the bin 70m away up the hill was challenging, so any idea we had about walking to the nearest cafe/shop was out, but having said that it didnt spoil our stay, we were 20 mins from the stunning Comares, 55mins from Nerja, 35 mins from Vélez-Málaga and 1hr from Benalmadena, given just how good villa was this was a drive i was willing to make, infact were already planning to come back. Honestly this was one of the best trips we've had, Carl was a very good host, with good communication and a very friendly laid back attitude.

Totally recommendable would definitely repeat the experience . Thank you , we had a wonderful time 😀.

Peaceful and tranquil villa near Comares

This is a lovely, spacious villa near Comares. The villa is well equipped and has a delightful pool and terrace area which are very well laid out. Carl and Maria are great hosts and very supportive and responsive. The villa represents very good value in rental terms. The roads can be a challenge if you are not used to them and you need to be organised on food shopping since the nearest good supernarket is 50 minutes round trip. The location is really peaceful and serene and we had a great 2 weeks enjoying the countryside and had lazy days by the pool as well as trips to Cordoba and Antequera (the latter only 50 minutes away). It takes about 50 minutes to get to Torre del Mar which is a great beach resort. During our stay, there was no hot water in the kitchen which it was not possible to fix whilst we were there, which was a bit inconvenient but overall, we had a great stay. Air con in master bedroom only and some of the bedroom fans could do with a bit of a clean. Our family had some great hikes nearby. Would thoroughly recommend to those wishing to see a different part of Andalucia, away from the crowds on the coast. Good restaurants nearby. Very accessible from Malaga airport.

Relaxing and tranquil week away

Lovely spacious traditional villa which had everything you needed for a relaxing week away. Bedrooms were spacious and massive family bath. Well equipped kitchen and good sized pool. 48 minutes to the beech and Comares 15 mins by car (7k). Couple of nice bars and restaurants serving good food in Ventorro, really friendly and only 10 mins away. Typical windy roads however the views and scenery are spectacular, make sure you have sat nav. Carl was a great host and special thanks

Perfect getaway for relaxed holiday

This villa is perfect for getting away from the hustle and bustle. Rural and remote , the real Andulusia. Large, well equipped house, fabulous pool and stunning vistas. Perfect place to do nothing but also a great base to explore the stunning mountains above Malaga. The roads are daunting at first but worth it. Owner is very friendly, meeting us at the Villa and showed us around. If you are after the Costa del Sol experience this is not for you. If you are after a real experience of Spain then you will not be disappointed in Comares and the surrounding area. The nearest bar is a good hike up the hill but worth the effort and you will need to drive to eat outaking a car essential. Overall an excellent experience and we will be back.

Peace and relaxation

Although the roads to the villa are daunting at first, you soon get used to them. The Villa itself is beautiful and has all you need for a complete holiday with everything in the kitchen and living room you could possibly want. Carl came over 2 or 3 times to check everything and to ensure the pool was clean. He was very helpful with regard to local attractions and amenities. The views from the terrace and pool were amazing, the sun was over the terrace all day. All in all a fantastic holiday. Thank you Carl, Regards from Chris, Sue, Jenny, Ena and Simon.

Nobody ever gets a 10 but Villa Romo is close.

Beautiful rural location. Well appointed property with plenty of space. The pool is well maintained and although a tad cool at the time of year we were there (mid Oct) - VERY refreshing! If you like comfort, peace and quiet, stunning views, this is the place. Plan your fuel top ups and shopping trips as the nearest garage and supermarket is 20 minutes drive (Benamargosa) although Comares does have a limited shopping. There is plenty of fridge and freezer space so's not to make it a daily requirement. Overall we had a fabulous holiday exploring the area and were sad to leave.

Super relaxing holiday in great villa.

My wife and I stayed at the villa at the end of September for a week. We arrived late on a Saturday so the complimentary welcome pack was indeed welcome. The road can appear challenging but that a price worth paying for the location, tranquillity and views. The villa was very comfortable and we are breakfast on the terrace each morning. We travelled to the local town with a slightly larger supermarket and found everything we needed. We also visited Velez Malaga for both shopping and beaches. On our last day we went to nerja and a town called frigiliana which were both really interesting and worth a second visit. The villa was very well equipped and had all the facilities we required . Carl was very helpful and gave us some useful pointers for restaurants etc. We would definitely recommend this villa and will be back again.

An amazing property

We have stayed in the Axarquia region five times now and Villa Romo is one of the best we have stayed in. With 5 adults in the group, there was plenty of room and places to escape to if you needed alone time. The outlook is amazing and waking up to birdsong, goat bells and donkeys (and the usual dogs and cockerels) was wonderful. The Villa was very well appointed, Mum especially loved the Kitchen. Carl was attentive when required, but otherwise left us to enjoy our holiday. I would certainly encourage anyone who wants wonderful views in a very comfortable, peaceful and private setting to seriously look at this Villa. Thank you Carl and Maria for the welcome pack and all that you did for us.

Our winter retreat in (mostly) sunny Spain

We keep coming back to Villa Romo for a winter month or two. It's a home from home with plenty of room for guests, generously sized bedrooms, one with its own shower, plus a proper bathroom and additional shower and loo. Best of all is the patio, sheltered but open to the south and the winter sun. In high summer though it must provide a shaded view to the tempting pool. Off a quiet road between the hilltop town of Comares and the more workaday town of Colmenar, it enjoys wide ranging views of the surrounding countryside, across the valley of the Rio Solano (usually dry but just occasionally the dam below fills up) and to west the Montes de Malaga, (take the road over them to the underrated city of Malaga) and to east the twinkling towns beneath the Sierra Tejeda. A high spot of tranquil days is the passage of the goat herd across the valley behind down the track from Romo, a twenty minute walk to the local bar. More sophisticated restaurants are to be found at Los Ventorros and Comares, which looks down to the Mediterranean and down on the concrete Costa some forty minutes drive away. An ideal getaway in the winter and summer sun trap for those who value the quiet life.

God size house for large families

The house was a nice size and layout, it was well equipped and the pool was nice. It would have been better to have sheets on the beds rather than empty duvets and all beds should have linen on, some of the broken stuff needs removing rather than just replacing.

Wonderful villa

We (two mature couples) rented Villa Romo for a week at the end of June and wished we could have stayed all summer! The villa is as described and more; it is very spacious and airy, extremely well equipped, comfortable beds and poolside furniture and everything clean and in good working order. The location is great - very private, not overlooked, peaceful and with good views of the surrounding countryside. The nearest large village, Comares, has a compact but very well-stocked supermarket which fulfilled all our needs during our stay. The local people are very friendly and it is a good place to stop for a beer and a chat, there is even a helpful tourist information office at the gate to the village. We very much enjoyed lunches at the Molino de los Abuelos restaurant in the village square, the food and wine are both excellent and the views from the terrace are lovely - as is the friendly owner who really know how to look after his guests. Carl & Maria were a pleasure to deal with, making everything very easy and straightforward from our first enquiry to checking in. Very highly recommended!

Wow a real find!

We had the most wonderful week at Villa Romo! The actual location was perfect affording complete privacy and panoramic views of the breathtaking countryside and it surpassed our expectations. Carl gave us excellent directions and as we arrived you could feel the stress of our everyday busy lives in Wales evaporating in the peaceful and luxurious surroundings. The villa was well equipped and offered more than everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Carl and Maria were on hand to give us information about the area and we explored the visited many places on their recommendation. The local bar in Roma which which was extremely friendly and where several people arrived on horseback gave us an introduction to the local laid back atmosphere of Adalucia. The nearby restaurants were superb and offered great value for money as well as being authentically Spanish. My husband loved the bird watching in the area whilst I enjoyed relaxing by the pool and enjoying being surrounded by the tranquility of the villa, no road noise, just bird song! We would love to bring our family here in the summer wooed by the idea of BBqs, relaxing by the pool and exploring the beautiful white traditional villages that Andalucia has to offer. If you want to be away from the tourists and hecticness of the coast and sample the real Spain then this is the place for you! In fact since our return, we have booked this villa again and my husband has been learning Spanish in earnest so we can really get the best out of what Andalucia and Villa Romo have to offer!

Perfect place for both adults and children

We had a wonderful and very quiet stay in the mountains of Malaga. The house, swimmingpool and barbeque added so much value to our holiday and made it easy to be 6 adults and 2 kids. The house is placed in fantastic surroundings with small villages and scenic view. The hosts Carl and Maria are very friendly and welcoming people. They helped before arrival with important information, they bought food for breakfast the first day, because our arrival were late. and during the week they answered our questions about sightseeing and shopping. We will highly recommend this house for everyone who needs a big and quiet place for both adults and children. We hope to come back one day :-)

Value for money!

We had some trouble to find the house. My mistake. In my head I measured kilometers and our rental measures miles. But we found it. Carl and Maria welcomed us, showing the house and telling us everything about the neighbourhood. It's a big house so plenty of room for the two of us. The kitchen is very compleet. I liked the dishwasher!! And there were some groceries for the first day. Beer wine, milk, butter and jam, eggs and bread. I liked that very much! The house is very claen and well maintained. Sitting outside is wonderfull and the pool is a big bonus. Normally we are very active during vacations, but now we did stay a lot near the pool and relaxed. The place is so quiet, I liked that!! And in the evening we went to Table Mountain rest. They serve good food and the wines are superb. Comares is a very nice village, you can buy your groceries there. After 1 week we went to Marbella and I had some problems to adjust to the noise and bussiness. I missed the silence and the lack of people. Maybe we come back with some of the children and grandchildren!!

We were at Villa Romo at the end of oktober 2015. As a very good host Carl has given us coffe, wine, ornage juice, bread, butter. Everything you need was in the house. Nothing was missing. All was very clean. The vieuws ware wonderful, the privacy fantastic, We enjoyed the swimming pool, the nice BBQ, the flowers ans palms. We have been in Antequera, with its beautiful nature, nice little villages, the sea and Granada. We come back and we will give this information to all our family, friends, and colleguas.

Stunning City Escape!!!

Firstly, I'd like to start with a thank you to Carl and Maria who were wonderful hosts. We originally wanted to book another villa but it had just been rented a few days earlier and Carl kindly recommended this villa for us. I can only say how lucky I was the other villa had gone as I would find Villa Romo very hard to better. Everything you need for a family get away from it all and with the free Wifi it makes it possible to keep in touch with those back home/outside world if you need to. The views here are some of the best I've seen in Spain and although the twisting roads can be a bit intimidating to the lazy city driver I ended up loving the experience. The location near Comares is perfect as it's only 45min/1hr drive from Malaga airport and within 1-1 1/2hrs drive from lots of resorts you can visit it you feel like seeing some faster paced life. We particularly enjoyed evenings out in Malaga old town and Torremolinos both within 1 hrs travel from the villa although the local restaurant in Comares was also excellent and very inexpensive. The pool was amazing and my kids enjoyed so much my son actually learned to swim within the week we spent there. I would not hesitate to recommend this villa enough if you are looking to recharge those batteries and get away from it all. If I decide to return for another holiday to this part of Spain I will definitely have Villa Romo top of my list.

Can't wait to go back !

We visited Villa Romo for a week with our 16 year old daughter and her friend. We have stayed in the area before and love it. It’s so peaceful and the scenery is stunning. We enjoyed some lovely walks up to Romo village (I say village, it’s a tiny little place with a hand full of houses, friendly dogs and a small bar) and down to the dam, a good way of burning off the vino from the night before! We have stayed in a few different properties in the area, and we never go to the same place twice, but we’re already planning a return trip to Villa Romo next year with friends all being well. The villa is really well designed and surprisingly spacious, all the bedrooms are a nice size, the showers are all great too. The kitchen it very well equipped and there are two fridges which is great for keeping all your drinks nice and cool. We didn’t use the lounge as the weather was so lovely, but the girls watch Wimbledon on BBC1 and cooled down in there. The pool is very clean and a nice temperature, plenty big enough for a few games of water tennis and it is surrounded by beautiful plants and palms. The BBQ is awesome, with an adjoining dining area with more lovely views. The owners Carl and Maria are just super – we’ve have stayed in a few places that Carl own/manages – I trust him implicitly, I know the Villas will always been clean and the fridge will always have a couple of beers in it ! We enjoyed their company one evening and a few too many cocktails and we very much look forward to seeing them again soon. If you are thinking of booking a holiday in the area then I strongly recommend Villa Romo, the drive into Comares village is fairly straight forward (and on a proper road!) and is far more convenient than some other places we have stayed. Be sure to visit Table Mountain is Los Ventorros, the food and wine is amazing and the staff are very welcoming. I’ve got the post-holiday blues, and can’t wait to return. Once again Carl….thank you so much for a lovely week. Espero verte pronto !

Amazing second visit

In September 2014 myself and my partner returned to Villa Roma for the second time. We don't often go back to the same place twice as there are so many beautiful places in the world but we have yet to find anywhere as perfect as Villa Roma. The Villa is amazing especially the pool and the outside area. The weather was so beautiful we hardly spent any time inside. Lazy days spent in the pool and balmy evenings, with outside dining washed down with a bottle of wine or a few beers, (thanks to Carl and Maria for getting the beers in!) This place is not for you if you want an action packed holiday but will be perfect if you want a lazy week in the sun with nothing to do except look at the beautiful views and cool off in the pool. We found our little piece of heaven and will be returning soon, hopefully in 2015!

We, Carl and Maria Cullimore, came to Comares in 1999 with the idea of buying a holiday home…and we are still here!
We continue to be thrilled by the views and beautiful, colourful landscape of Andalusia. The white washed village of Comares is both unique and unspoiled yet only an hour from Malaga. The perfect rural base to relax and explore.
La Paz, our finca meaning “peace” was renovated and a swimming pool was built on the hillside. We converted part of the farmhouse to a self contained studio overlooking the pool and our holiday rentals idea became a reality when we welcomed our first guests in 2002.
Our next project was Villa Romo, spacious accommodation with pool and popular with families. Friends owning properties locally and wishing to rent their villas for holidays have entrusted us with the keys and management responsibilities.
We are proud to showcase a small, quality selection of individual villas, beach houses, apartments and even a seaside Fisherman’s Cottage. We provide a professional, bespoke service which can include the rental marketing and maintenance of holiday properties in the Axarquia region of Andalusia.
