This is an amazing place for a getaway! Dave was always available for any help/questions. Fishing was very fun out on the lake, would definitely recommend the boats and they are easy to operate. Everyone had an amazing time! Thank you Dave for everything!

Perfect Family Reunion

Our stay at Nicatous Lodge and Cabins was a dream come true. The lodge and campground were full of fantastic little surprises that made our stay unforgettable. The kitchen had everything you needed to prepare a large meal (there were 40 of us). And, the great room and screened porches created a lot of extra living space. While the front lawn was a bit smaller than we’d anticipated, it was plenty big enough for multiple cornhole tourney, badminton, summer olympics, and croquet. David and the crew were wonderful hosts and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We will definitely be back for another reunion at Nicatous.

A wonderful location for a reunion!

We had our family reunion at Nicatous Lodge. There were 38 of us. We were all able to fit comfortably in the lodge and cabins. Dave, the owner was fabulous. Helpful and quick to respond before, during, and after our stay. The kitchen was extremely well stocked for preparing meals for this large group of people. The lake, situated just across the road was perfect. We used the boats, kayaks, and our own paddle boards constantly. The kids were able to run around safely. The road traffic was mostly ATVs. But the drivers of the occasional truck were courteous and careful. A 20 minute boat ride brought us to a state park beach where we hung out for a few hours. The bon fires built each night brought us all together outside. We had a few that needed to keep working. Dave’s access to high speed internet for those few was critical to enable them to stay with us for the entire time. We would stay here again! Thanks Dave!

Family reunion

We expected this to be a bit like scout camp and it is definitely rustic but was also clean and each cabin had its own bathroom (and most had small kitchens). Great places to gather in the lodge and on the porch with a huge kitchen for group cooking and cleaning. Laid back but very helpful host. The week flew by. We loved it!

Beautiful lakeside location

Beautiful lakeside location that was great for our extended family gathering. We loved fishing during the day and sitting around the campfire at night. We gathered in the Lodge for dinner every evening. The Lodge was beautiful. The property was perfect for relaxing and catching up with family members.

Beautiful Lake Stay

We stayed at Nicatous Lodge and Campground for a bachelor party weekend. There were nearly 20 of us, and we had plenty of space and room for fun. The lodge itself was excellent with a large kitchen and outside grill which made cooking for 20 people very easy. The lake was beautiful, with access to canoes, kayaks, and some motor boats. There was also a nice lawn in front of the lodge over looking the lake which was great for lawn games. Finally, David was an amazing host- communicative, helpful, and not over bearing. Overall a great experience!

Small Wedding

We had the best time celebrating our wedding at Nicatous! Our friends and family had a great time swimming, fishing and boating. The cabins were perfect for everyone to have their own space. Dave was very accommodating and quick to answer any questions we had before and during our stay.

Fun and Adventure for the ENTIRE Family!

My family and I returned for our family gathering this summer and (as always!) had a fabulous time! We were greeted warmly and welcomed to our cozy cabin before enjoying drinks on the deck while admiring the rainbow over the lake. Each day was a new adventure - from jogging along the lake in the morning to boating to sandy beaches and kayaking along grassy coves during the day, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! The entire place maintains the simplicity and authenticity of a true sporting camp while allowing some to check-in with reality with WIFI when necessary! We will surely be back next year!!

great time

Three of us stayed there for the weekend. There was plenty of room, comfortable, fire place was awesome and the wood was free for the fire, Cant get any better than that. The water was awesome, although a bit cold because of the time of year, but exhillerating. Also, the boat rental was great, we went down the lake and checked things out and went for a swim in the crystal clear water.

Great Getaway, Awesome Hospitality!

The Lodge at Nicatous Lake was awesome. The Lodge was spacious and comfortable. There was everything at the kitchen. The view of lake was remarkable. The hospitality was just wonderful. We got to use kayaks and canoes for free all day long. Kids enjoyed fishing. It was the total vacation package. I highly recommend it to anyone.

a great experience

This is our second year coming up to the Lodge in the Winter. This year we stayed in the newly renovated Lakeview Suite. It was clean, warm, and really easy. We had a relaxing vacation and did some x-country skiing and ice fishing. The new owners are putting a lot of money and effort into the lodge and it shows.

Lake Nicatous and Lodge, a magical place

Our lakeside cabin looked right down this natural wonder of a lake. A pristine body of water surrounded by tall pines with just a few cabins here and there. The main Lodge was warm, cozy and welcoming, staffed by a friendly, helpful couple who assisted us in any way we requested. We cooked our own lunches and dinners but their breakfasts, a perfect start to the day. We ice fished two days behind an island, catching fish and soaking in the winter sun!

About the host

Hosted by David Dane

Host profile image
I am an avid fly fisherman who enjoys the elements. I have been spending time in the Lake Nicatous area for 30 years. My wife Cathie and I manage the property and we are already looking forward to next season.

My business partners Steve and Patty Schuster love the outdoors and the quiet and solitude of Lake Nicatous and they are second generation Nicatous people. Together we provide for all of the coverage and we share the hosting responsibility.

My skills include facilitating business meeting and leading discussion. I am the former CEO of LOGIX Fiber Networks and I was the COO at Newwave Communications and at Atlantic Broadband before that. We also organize and conduct successful corporate retreats on the property.

Why they chose this property

The beauty and simplicity of a stay at the lodge is good for the soul! What do you require in order to enjoy life? A great meal? Physical activity like hunting and fishing? A good read? Connecting with loved ones or getting to know an acquaintance or business associate better?

We are remote, but not isolated. We have broadband internet, a text center, Dish, and cell coverage. We think that we have reached the right balance between the need for modern conveniences and the need that many of us have to get back to simpler times when human beings were more in tune with their natural surroundings and nature.

Having said all that we can offer any kind of outdoor experience that you want including a formal wedding or a black tie event. Use your imagination and think back to the turn of the century when aristocrats from New York City took a long train ride to experience the outdoors here in Maine. Or think pragmatically about the many hunters and fisherman who have stayed at the over the years.

What makes this property unique

Step back in time. See what life was like before modern conveniences introduced so much stress into our lives. Stay at the Nicatous Lodge and experience the same sights and sounds and feelings of past generations, but if you need to check in we do have wireless! Bonfires at night, fishing at the first light of day, the sounds of the dam and falls. Adirondack chairs overlooking the lake or a seat in out screen house.
