Secluded place, good for relaxing gateway

This a quiet and secluded location, away from traffic and city noises. Perfect place to wind down and relax. The main room and the bathroom were clean and well maintained, though the interior decor was dated.

inside fine, outside needs lots of work

The combination lock was easy to operate and when I had to call the owner, she answered right away. The room itself was cozy and neat. The heat worked. But the outside and the entire "ranch" property is sadly in need to Maintenace. rough pavement, uneven stairs with no railings, broken concrete, etc. made it a challenge for my 76 year old self to get to my room with my suitcase. Love this spot

We love staying here. This was our second time at shadow mountain ranch, first time in the enchanted cottage. We just love staying here it’s so peaceful and lovely. The rooms are so cozy and there are some great views and it’s so close to town. It so easy to be here and feel tucked away but still enjoy all the things Julian offers. Any time we’re in Julian we will be staying here.

Always a Pleasure

This is the second time staying at the Enchanted Cottage. Nothing has changed in 4 years....which is a good thing, smiles. The cottage is inviting, comfortable and a wonderful place to rest and relax. The property is beautiful and has a nice seating area under a canopy of trees. Close to both Main Street, Julian and Wynola- both having good restaurants and antique/specialty shops. Looking forward to the next time we can return to the Enchanted Cottage.

Very pretty area

The people we dealt with were pleasant and helpful. The room was fine, except for a few cobwebs around the window. The grounds could have used a little work including cleaning up the outdoor area next our room. And we pulled weeds off the seats in a different outdoor seating area. But it was very peaceful and beautiful setting.

Quaint and relaxing

We have stayed at SMR several times and it is always a good experience. The host, Julie, was excellent and extremely responsive. We happened to go on the week of the largest snowstorm in Julian in over 10 years. The windchill was 17 degrees. The only minor problem we encountered was the amount of time it took to heat the cabin. When I contacted Julie she had a portable heater brought to us 10 minutes and that took care of the problem. You will be hard pressed to find a more serene and quiet setting.

Lovely and perfect

We had a lovely stay. Very comfortable, relaxing, and quiet. We were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary and the upcoming arrival of a permanent foster child from another country. It was the perfect setting to talk, connect and relax. Ability to relax in the cottage or out on the patio. Very quiet. Microwave and refrigerator was nice to store breakfast and lunch items. Jacuzzi bathtub made lounging extra relaxing. I was afraid of being cold because of the time of year and location, but the room remained comfortable morning, noon and night. Quite lovely. About a 7-10 minute drive to the main street of Julian. We would stay again and have already have recommended friends and family to check it out.

Shambles

I have been going here for many years. Each year it gets worse. This year walking to the cabin was a huge pile of dirt and broken up large concrete pieces. So I needed to go the long way around to get to my front door. The manager said" Oh maintenance must have forgot". Inside 4 out of five lights were not working. The jacuzzi is broken. The rug outside tears more every year and looks terrible. The fencing around the little patio breaks more every year One cannot run the microwave and coffee maker at the same time. It shorts out. One little sign could inform us without me having to text the manager again. This place is not cared for nor do the owners care about the shape it is in. Sadly I will not be staying in the Enchanted cottage anymore. Unless someone who really cares about the place and their guests takes over One cannot run the microwave and coffee pot at the same time or it shorts out ( A sign would be nice)

Awesome and peaceful weekend again at the ranch

We have been here 3 times over the last 6 years and love it every time. But do notice it is a little less taken care of each time we return. There are some items that would be good to stock up on, like utensils and some paper or plastic plates. I assume most people just go out and eat so usually it is no big deal. We could not get the Jacuzzi tub to turn on but still was able to relax in there, not sure if it does not work or we missed a switch somewhere. A curtain on the big window in the bathroom would be nice so it is not wide open. Doesn't seam like people can see you, but just in case. The room itself was clean and in great shape, the bay window is a huge plus. Would be nice if the TV was closer to the ground, having it up high kind of makes your neck hurt after a while. The wildlife is really cool and the property still very relaxing. We hope the ranch is around for a while longer. Would be great to see this place back to it's old glory, seams like it could be a great place to do weddings and other events. We realize this is an older place and may not have all the bells and whistles of other places have, but nothing was a deal breaker for us and it is very worth the price. We hope to be back again as long as you guys are still around. Thanks

Our visit was ok. The view was excellent. The rooms were ok except they were old and worn out and needing cleaning. There was only one small basket in bathroom to dispose of garbage and there was no garbage bin anywhere outside. There was no soap and tissues were just left over from a previous occupant.

We enjoyed getting to see the dear in the meadow each morning. Concerned over the mosquitos. Were not able to be outside much because of them.

Best stocked and comfortable cabin

Beautiful property and cabin location was perfect for a trip to Idyllic ild.We lacked nothing. The beds were so comfortable living room cozy and comfortable master bedroom amazing balcony to see the stars. Awesome stereo speakers. We could almost live on the front porch. And Jacuzzi under the stars

nice cabin, but not to senior friendly

We did talk to Julie Chapman before coming, and asked if our car would be parked next to cabin, she said no, there is a path to cabin. Told her we were 82, she said it just a short walk and few step into cabin. It was a short walk from parking lot to cabin, but no lights at night, and very dark, glad we had a flashlight in the car, dangerous walking in the dark, when we got to the cabin, there was no hand rails on the steps for support. Not good for seniors. The cabin inside was very nice, it was clean and plenty of room. There was no TV reception , called Julie and she said the cable was out, if we had known ahead of time, i would of brought a radio. The night we got there we went into Julian for dinner. Ate at the Julian Grill, but 3am I came down with food poisoning . Not the weekend we were looking for. So over all Vrbo was excellent handling our reservations, Julie was helpful, but the property was not senior friendly.. Would I go back, No, would I recommend it to our friends? only if they were not seniors. .

I have stayed here many times. Delynn and her team are very caring and kind and I am so blessed to have ths ranch to Come to . My body battery and mind are recharged! Mama turkey had 6 new babies and comes right up to my front window! Deer everywhere!

Serenity at BEST

Our visit to to the cottage was exactly what we needed. So warm, cozy and exceptionally peaceful. We woke up to families of deer 🦌 grazing in the snowy area right outside our window. The cottage is very clean and well kept. Nice HOT water for showers. Having a Keurig for coffee in the morning was a treat. Great WiFi connection. Truly a hidden treasure.

'FIND A NEED AND FILL IT has been a guiding principle for both Loretta, my wife of 65 years, and myself. When I retired from my career as a teacher and school administrator and she retired from her career as a nurse, rather then have me drive her to work and play golf until time to bring her home, we looked around to see what needs we could find. Loretta quickly saw a need for overnight housing since Julian was rapidly becoming a center for tourism. Bed-and-breakfast was such a new concept in California that our friends asked if we were going to serve breakfast in bed. Nobody knew much about how to proceed so we just opened our doors and started. To say that it was an instant success would be an understatement. There was a very real need, and both of us, having spent most of our lives in professions that served people, were ideally suited to it.
