We take a trip in Feb (to Galveston) every year to celebrate birthdays. It is 4 couples and kids (8 adults, 8 kids, 7 -17). If you want to stay on the beach, the location is perfect. A little away from the seawall so quieter, right on the beach, direct access. The deck overlooking the beach is amazing and I would think, GREAT, in the summer.
The house was clean and obtaining the key and access was efficient and a smooth process. We also liked all the bedrooms and bathrooms, so each family had their own. Those are all the good. The improvements needed....
For the price, the house is run down and worn. The bunk room and trundle bedroom are sterile and dingy. These are the things that did not work in the kitchen - the ice maker, the trash compactor (not that we would use it, but why keep another broken appliance in the house?), one of the two oven compartments, half the burners on the stove. The temp in the house is hard to control with the double living room (tall ceiling) and no blinds. The heater was blowing so hard on the main floor bedrooms to regulate the double living room, it made sleeping on the main floor almost unbearable. The living room is a wall of windows facing the ocean. While beautiful, it is blinding in the morning (they should install motorized shades on at least the top windows). The upstairs was just as bad, the kids bunk room was very hot. They should put fans in the bunk room and trundle room. The couch in the living room is worn down and felt dirty to sit on, like years of wear and tear.
The house needs a refresh and get the kitchen in full working order before we would consider this property again. Even with the pristine location, the broken appliances, wear and tear of furniture and the heating issue, we would not stay again, nor recommend this property. Also, ask for the rules before renting. There is a long list of them and the constant reminders of them, through email, was off putting. The property manager was efficient to work with and nice. But for the price, there were too many cons to make this a repeat location for us.
