Idyllic Vacation Home

Memorable Family Spring Break

Our family stayed for spring break and we had the best time! We didn't want it to end and wish we could live here. It's such a beautiful and peaceful place that takes you back to simplicity. We enjoyed breathtaking views of the Smith River and had deer visit in the front yard. Everyday was a new adventure either exploring the Redwood Forest or playing at the beach. Awesome host with great communication.

We rented the place to stay at for our quiet elopement wedding (just the two of us), it was exactly what we were looking for. It’s quiet, but not isolated, sits right along the River with a *beautiful* picturesque view, and river access. The property grounds are spacious and lovely as well. The house itself is a clearly well loved and maintained house. Clean, good amenities, and just very homely. It was exactly what we were looking for, and we loved every minute of being there. Absolutely plan to visit again in the future for more quiet get-aways. Fantastic host and communication as well

Perfect Home Base for West Coast Nature Exploration

Our family of 4 (2 adults & 2 kids) fell in love with the Smith River at Dylan’s wonderful retreat. We came from the east coast to experience the redwoods and were so grateful we chose this as our residence for a week (in between long drives and shorter stays that took us from Portland, OR to San Francisco, CA). We arrived late at night and woke up to breathtaking river views well worth the long drive. We had amazing weather but even if we hadn’t we would have been happy to spend all day watching the river through the picture windows - sitting in the cozy chairs or playing pool. The property abounds with wonder - from the redwood playhouse to wild thimbleberries and the sound of the river from the upstairs bedroom. Comfortable beds, mini splits for hot or cold days, a well stocked kitchen, 2 bathrooms, wonderful books - including several nature guides, and room to sprawl out and relax indoors and out made for an ideal home base that we were eager to return to on the days we ventured out, including hiking & swimming upriver at Jedediah State Park and exploring the southern Oregon coastline. Honestly, discovering all the wildlife right there in the Smith River (Caddisfly larva, bank nesting swallows, banana slugs, foothill yellow legged frogs, kingfishers and great blue herons) was a major highlight for our slow-paced nature loving family. We made memories for a lifetime here, and if we ever return to this region we hope to be able to stay at Dylan’s place again. Many thanks!

It was our first trip to California and we definitely made the right choice for booking our stay with you. The home was absolutely beautiful and accommodated our every need. The scenery was breathtaking, even the neighborhood was welcoming. We are already discussing about our returning trip.

Another Relaxing Getaway...

Great family vacation spot with lots of privacy, located right along the Smith River. Had a small hiccup with the water/septic system on the final morning of our stay, but would definitely stay here a third time. Highly recommend.

Awesome place

The house was great and the location was amazing! The peaceful sound of the river, the quiet neighborhood, the plentiful amount of redwoods on property, the horseshoe pits, and the convenience to the state parks made our short trip absolutely perfect. We would certainly book this house again if we're back in the area.

Lovely spot!

Our family and yellow lab had a great stay here. We especially loved the view from the living room, the comfortable chairs, and the pool table. And we appreciated the little touches like the hand made mancala game, the typewriter and the bluetooth speaker. The kitchen was bright and cheery. It took about 40 minutes to get to the big redwoods nearby which were incredibly impressive and magical.

Amazing Location!

This cabin is right on the river! We had rainy, cold weather and the view cannot be matched with extremely large windows everywhere. Easy drive to the redwoods and Crescent City. The beds were very comfortable, the house was super clean and charming. The host was very helpful with many updates. I loved all of the plants. You can tell this home is well loved and used by the owner frequently. Very comfortable and inviting. Thank you for a great stay!

A little piece of Redwood Heaven

Property was clean, quaint and beautiful. We had everything we needed and more. The owner failed to mention that there were redwoods on the property which was a bonus. We enjoyed playing in the river, playing pool and relaxing. It was a great starting point for our adventures to the Redwoods in The cresent City beaches. Our family cannot recommend this any higher. We would give it 10 stars if we could!!

Great location

Great space for a small family outing. This home has a large yard and is in a very quiet and peaceful location, equidistant from the Oregon border and Crescent City. The only downside was the river access. it’s a bit treacherous as the steps are slanted towards the river rocks below, it’s a pretty good drop if you were to fall. Luckily within a few minutes drive, there’s a county park across the river and Jed Smith park both with easily accessible swim areas. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would love to stay again in the future.

Redwoods road trip

Spacious house in the country.! Big yard. Great view of the river from the house and yard. Very quiet. Extremely quiet. Approx 15-20 minute drive to Crescent City. Daily adventure to see redwoods. I enjoyed using the charcoal grill. It’s time for the cleaning people to clean the dead bugs from the window sills. We enjoyed ourselves

All the Right Ways to Spend Time

Fantastic property with amazing views, relaxing scenery, and fun games. Great communication from the host and a clear check-in/check-out process. There’s nothing quite like waking up to enjoy a view from the back window with some coffee or tea. The kitchen is a great size to do any cooking for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a snack. It was amazing to already have some firewood available to use for the fireplace and pit outside - s’mores are a must here! If a fire isn’t your preferred way to stay warm, there is a heat pump to keep you cozy as you enjoy your stay. The location of the property is great, close to the coastline, Crescent City, the Redwoods, and of course right on the river. There’s no wrong way to spend time when you’re at the this property. Whether it’s enjoying the views and fun the property has to offer or are off exploring the nearby lands and water, enjoyable memories will be made.

Amazing tranquil haven

This is a unique and wonderful property in a perfect location - right on the Smith River. There are large windows so we spent a great deal of time sitting in the living room watching the river flow by. The property itself is beautiful, with several outbuildings, nice lawn, a unique 'fort' build among the redwoods, fire pit, and a set of stone steps going down to the river. Just upriver there are houses on both sides of the river, but from this property one cannot see any houses on the north side of the river at all, and there are only a few on the south side (where this property is) so it felt like we were in the wilderness. I kept expecting to see a bear on the gravel bar! Crescent City is fairly close and easy to get to, and there are many hiking trails and beaches to explore nearby. This was such a special place we are debating making this an annual retreat.

This property has been part of my family since my early childhood. I have many happy memories growing up there, and have done a great deal of work personally upgrading the house in recent years. After relocating to Humboldt County, CA, I decided to share my home with others as a vacation rental.
