About this property

'Somerley' is a delightful spacious cottage located in a quiet road in Deal's historic conservation area and is a few minutes walk from the sea and the centre of Deal. Deal high street was recently voted High Street of the year and Deal has been used for several film sets, Liar and Vanity Fair. The house is a short drive from excellent golf courses and the bus and train stations are both within walking distance. London and Canterbury are within easy reach by road and rail. Deal is conveniently located for day trips to France.
The house was built in the early 1800’s and retains much of its original character. The sitting room and dining room have panelled walls and the dining room has an attractive gas fire.There is comfortable seating and a smart T.V. Guests are welcome to use the books and games in the house.
The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you might need for your visit whether you stay for a relaxing weekend or a summer holiday.
There are three bedrooms on the first floor, one double bed, a twin bedded and a single room. In addition to the first floor bathroom, the single room is fitted with a sink. There is a private courtyard garden leading from the french doors in the kitchen, with a restful water feature, which offers a lovely space to sit outside and enjoy summer evenings.
The games room in the cellar is a fun place for adults and children alike, especially if the weather is not so good.

There is free on street parking in Nelson Street and the surrounding streets with a permit and there are several car parks within walking distance. You do not need a car to enjoy Deal as everything is within walking distance from the house.

Delightful

The house has everything you would have in your own home, well presented and very comfortable. It's well positioned for all the amenities, we loved being able to walk to the beach. The extra parking permits for the second car were essential, thank you for obtaining them for us.

2018 Christmas in Deal

We (2 adults and 2 children aged 3 & 5) had a great time in this property there is sufficient amount of lego and books for the children and a very workable and comfortable living space for the adults, overall a great stay and would high recommend.

Highly recommended / Sehr zu empfehlen

I highly recommend Deal and the house. It is centrally located, so you do not need a car to the grocery store, train station, high street or the beach. It is totally comfortable and has enough space. There were four of us. If you like to cook on vacation, it makes a lot of fun in the large kitchen and especially with the large stove. From the kitchen you go into the courtyard. We ate there very often. If the weather is kind it is warm and windless. Deal is a really great city. There is a lot of small shops, greengrocers, butchers, bakers, cafés and pubs. It's just fun to stroll and shop through the very busy High Street. In Deal there are a lot of good places to eat, from fish and chips up to restaurants. We liked it very much! Ich kann Deal und das Haus nur empfehlen. Es liegt sehr zentral, so dass man kein Auto zum Supermarkt, Bahnhof, High Street oder zum Strand braucht. Es ist total gemütlich und bietet ausreichend Platz. Wir waren zu viert dort. Wenn man auch im Urlaub gerne kochte, macht das in der große Küche und vorallem mit dem große Herd sehr viel Spaß. Von der Küche aus geht man in den Innenhof. Wir haben dort sehr oft gegessen. Bei schönem Wetter ist es dort warm und windstill. Deal ist eine ganz tolle Stadt. Es gibt dort sehr viele kleine Läden, Gemüsehändler, Metzger, Bäcker, Cafés und Pubs. Es macht einfach Spaß durch die sehr belebte Hight Street zu bummeln und einzukaufen. In Deal kann man auch gut Essen gehen von Fish and Chips bis zum Restaurant. Uns hat es dort sehr gut gefallen!

Quiet spot in a beautiful town!

Had a wonderful time in Deal! House came fully as advertised, was very clean and quiet, and all the utilities worked great! The Deal Pier, waterfront restaurants, and ocean view created an awesome vacation spot. Would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a great holiday.

Beautiful House

My party & I travelled to Deal for a one week stay. We were very happy with the choice we had made. This delightful house is situated right in the centre of Deal town close to all ammenities. The house itself is very warm & welcoming & we immediately felt "at home". All the rooms are fully equipped, extremely clean & decorated beautifully. The kitchen is large bright & airy with a bbq patio area to the side. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the house & the added extra of a games room in the basement with a single bed. I would highly recommend staying in this house & I look forward to doing so again in the not so distance future. A big Thank you to Ashley & Wendy for a memorable break.

A lovely place in the middle of Deal

We had a great stay in this nice vintage-like place. There was room enough for the five of us. We enjoyed the courtyard for having breakfast and the short walks to the beach and the city centre. Espacially nice was the uncomplicated contact to our landlady Wendy via E-Mail. PS.: We were booking from Germany (fewo-direkt.de), the translated description is a little misleading, because the house is not situated in rural areas or close to the nature but in the historic evironement of the city centre.

Great house

We had a wonderful time - the house is indeed spacious and kitted out thoughtfully and generously. Our children loved the basement games area. A very quiet location but only a few minutes walk to the High Street. We’d love to stay again.

Diese Wohnung hat unsere Erwartungen übertroffen / More than we expected

Schon vor dem Aufenthalt hat sich Wendy bei uns gemeldet und hat geduldig alle Fragen beantwortet, natürlich auch während und sogar nach unserem Aufenthalt. Parken ist in der Wohngegend kein Problem. Besonderheit: Wir hatten einiges mitgenommen, was uns in Ferienwohnungen / Küchen wichtig ist, konnten es aber in der Tasche lassen: Es ist schon alles dort gewesen. Die Fotos geben einen realistsichen Eindruck der Wohnung wieder. Für 4 Personen kein Problem, auch wenn die Räume - wie in GB üblich - eher klein gehalten sind. Die Gasheizung in den Kaminen funktioniert gut, wir brauchen sie auch im Sommer einmal zum Trocknen nach einem Regenguss. Deal ist ein schöner Ort mit einer ruhigen und unternehmenslustigen Bevölkerung. Der Kiesstrand ist mit Badelatschen gut zu nutzen, auf Tide und Strömung ist zu achten. Wenn uns der Weg wieder nach Kent führt, dann gern wieder bei Wendy in Somerly. Wendy is a prudent landlady of this holiday accommodation, just ask. Parking in the streets nearby is no problem. All we want to have in a kitchen is still there. All the house is in good conditions and useful, the rooms GB-typically smaller than in Germany. Good for us 4. Deal is an nice place with pebble beach. When we will come back to Kent next years, then glady to Somerly.

Lovely, comfortable cottage

We had a lovely and comfortable stay at somerley. Cottage was very clean and was the most well equipped holiday cottage we've ever stayed in! Wendy, our host, was attentive to our needs. Location was very centre to everywhere we wanted to visit...Dover castle was 20mins away, sandy beaches at botany bay n joss bay was only 40 mins drive. Deal beach was 10mins walk n we loved our visit to Deal castle n walked along the promenade to Walmer castle. Definitely recommend.

Absolutely fantastic

What a fantastic property! Stayed with my husband and two 18+ children. The house was spotless and very well equipped, some places can be a little hit and miss with there kitchen equipment but not here. We usually managed to park on the street only once or twice just round the corner so that wasn’t an issue. Deal itself is a beautiful place with lots of interesting little shops to have a nose around in . I rarely give above 4 stars but this property deserves all 5 !

We, a family of four visited deal in July 2022 and spend two weeks at Wendys cottage "Sommerly".

Great comfortable cottage with a lovely small backyard, fully equipped and in walking distance from, city center, station, beach, supermarkets and shops. Even the cellar had games for the kids. Wendy, the landlady, was always of help. I rate five out of five stars. Really to recommend.

Fantastic Stay in Deal.

The property was spotlessly clean, very well equipped and lovingly decorated with pretty homely touches. It has a great location with a short walk to the local shops and strolling down to the beach. Even with 4 adults in our group the cottage felt spacious and we made good use of the courtyard garden. We managed to park right outside the house and we were very grateful for the parking permits. Our host was very helpful and answered all our questions promptly and provided a very generous welcome pack. We would have no hesitation in staying here again if we came back to visit Deal. Amazing property in a great location

Amazing property in a great location, just a few minutes walk from the beach and Pier. The house was large enough for our family ( 2 adults and 3 children) it was great to have separate kitchen, lounge and dining room. The bedrooms were a very good size with very comfy beds. The house is well equipped and has everything you could possibly want. It was very clean, and ample towels to last us our whole stay. The courtyard at the back of the house was a lovely private place to sit and eat outside. Excellent communication from the owner on the few occasions we messaged we always got a very quick, helpful response. The house is located close to local bars, restaurants and shops. The perfect place for a stay in Deal, I would highly recommend.

We have lived in the area since 2000 and we love being by the sea and yet in a town at the same time. Our children have grown up in a safe delightful place which is dear to all of us.

Why they chose this property

I have always admired the pretty houses in Deal, particularly in the Conservation area. We love our house because it has character and charm and it is in the heart of a thriving town and yet in a peaceful spot. We enjoy being able to walk everywhere and not need the car. If we want to go to Canterbury or London they are both easily reached by car or public transport.

What makes this property unique

Many of our guests comment on how well equipped the house is. We really do try to provide everything anyone could want on holiday and to make the house as welcoming as possible. We love our house and we want our guests to feel that it is their home during their stay.
