Sanctuary by the Stream - CLOSE TO SKI AREAS

Leave your cares behind and enjoy the beautiful Catskill mountains as you relax in your “Stream side Sanctuary,” a newly renovated 2 bedroom house just outside of Phoenicia, located on the lovely Stony Clove Stream.
Winter is a great time to visit! We are close to ski centers -12 miles from Hunter Mountain, 15 from Belleayre and 23 from Windham. We also have three pair of snow shoes to use on the property or take to another spot. If you’re not an outdoor person, you’ll enjoy relaxing in front of the cozy fireplace in the living room or visiting some of the shops in town or at the nearby Emerson complex, where you can also take an exercise class, get a massage or visit the world’s largest kaleidoscope!
The view from the property is wonderful year round, with the autumn colors being especially spectacular. We also have a terrific stream side patio and seasonal fire pit. It's available April through November and is fueled by propane. No wood needed and a great flame! (see photo)
The newly renovated house has a beautiful, fully equipped kitchen, spacious dining room that looks out at trees and flowers from a bow window, living room with gas fireplace and large screen TV, modern bathroom, two bedrooms, each with a queen size bed, one with a TV, air conditioning and heat throughout making it a cozy, comfortable retreat year round! The house has cable TV and wifi. A car is not necessary as the house is located just short of a mile form the bus station in Phoenicia. You can walk to town, eat in one of several restaurants, visit the quaint shops, go fly fishing, or tube the Esopus. If you’re feeling energetic, a walk of a little over a mile will bring you to the Tanbark Trail and/or the trail up Tremper Mountain, both very popular spots, or walk about 2 miles to the Phoenicia Diner for a hearty breakfast or lunch. If you do come by car, there are many sites and activities just a short drive away: Lakes, hiking trails, ski centers, concerts, shops, and /or other nearby towns to explore. Come and enjoy “your vacation home” without any of the work or responsibility

Nice little get away
The backyard is beautiful and worth the stay. We werent allowed to use the fire pit, which was a bummer but overall pleasant stay.Very clean, warm and cozy.

Great weekend getaway
Great place to stay for a quick weekend getaway. Great host. She communicated with us ahead of our stay and made it easy for us to prepare well for the trip and made sure we had a comfortable stay. The place is charming and the views are amazing. Place is clean and well equipped. Would definitely consider coming back for another fall trip.

Peaceful getaway!
Perfect getaway for me and my husband. Very clean house with all the basics there! All you need to do is get up, make some coffee and walk straight out to enjoy the stream. It’s so relaxing. The fireplace and fire pit are easy to use. Great location - easy to get to trails and food (every place we ate at was so good!). I will definitely come back!

If you’re looking for a clean, updated, and comfortable place to stay while surrounded by breathtaking beauty, look no further. The sights and sounds of the creek in the back yard and views of mountains on all sides were exactly what we needed. Had a close encounter with a bald eagle while stepping across the rocks in the creek. Lots of hikes and yummy restaurants in the neighborhood too. The owner was friendly and helpful, making our stay a perfect weekend escape!

We were promised a “ Sanctuary” and that’s exactly what we were delighted to find! The beautiful house exceeded our expectations, and being surrounded by nature and the stream was precisely the rejuvenating weekend we needed! The sanctuary … so perfect
Amazing space. So clean, comfortable & well equipped. We were here for a wedding for 2 nights & loved it so much we stayed an extra night. Beautiful gardens & right on a pristine stream. Super quiet & private. Very friendly & accommodating host. Highly recommend. We spent the day in the yard & just relaxed & recharged. Really good restaurants & ice cream in town minutes from the house. So much to do & see in this area. My favorite was to just sit by the stream & watch all the beautiful nature around. We saw a bear which was so fun.

I grew up in New York City but was always drawn to nature. After college I moved to Ulster County and have lived in Phoenicia for over thirty years. I never tire of of the beauty of this area that I am blessed to live in.

What makes this property unique

This property is unique because of the beautiful setting. There is a large open yard with about 150' of stream frontage. The setting is peaceful and lovely but within one mile of town. It is conveniently located to restaurants, shops, theaters, tubing, fly fishing, kayaking, swimming & skiing. There is a lovely stream side stone patio with a large seasonal propane fire pit that is beautiful!
