My family and I were just getting into the taxi to go to the airport when I got a phone call to say the owner of the villa we had booked had moved back into the villa and wouldn’t move out. So we could not stay there!
We were offered a full refund, but this wouldn’t cover our flights, and we had all booked time off work- so this was not an option.
We were then offered several alternative villas- which we had to try and view in the taxi on the way to the airport and then in the airport check in queue. None of these met our needs. The property manager did his best to find us places, but kept pushing us to take one of his own villas, which was nice, but not what we wanted and in the wrong area.
The stress was horrendous! I ended up crying and having an asthma attack.
Finally we chose one of the alternative villas- only to be told there were already people staying in it. The next one we chose was not actually even available til the day after we arrived, meaning we would have to check into an apartment for the night and then wait til the next afternoon to check into the villa- not an option- as we only had a 1 week holiday. Finally we had to settle for a third villa (from the ones we were offered) which was more expensive (as so last minute), but as we were about to board our plane at this point, we had no choice. When we arrived in Funchal we were told that we would be able to claim back the difference in price of the villa we had been offered as an alternative. Appalling!!
