My husband & I spent a pleasant week next to the Mississippi River watching & photographing birds, towboats, barges, fishing boats, riverboats...and rain. We had lots of rain! Nevertheless, the home had all we needed to enjoy much-needed downtime-- comfortable beds with plenty of linens & pillows & towels, a fully supplied kitchen with not only cookware & dishes but also bakeware, lawn chairs, TV, washer & dryer, and comfy couches. We lacked nothing except we did need to purchase drinking water, which we didn't mind at all.
One reviewer mentioned the sound of the towboats in the night. I'm a fairly light sleeper but I didn't notice the noise from the towboats at all. If anything, the truck traffic on the highway was considerably louder than any boats on the river, but we adjusted to traffic noise in a night or two.
We appreciated being able to self-check-in, having the place to ourselves and being left on our own for the week. That is definitely our kind of vacation; in fact, we never even met the Owners until we were ready to check out.
However, during one night of particularly severe storms, we would have welcomed their interest in our well-being. When the local tornado sirens began blaring we were not panicked at all, but being unfamiliar with the area we called the Owners for advice on a safe place to go and to let them know the power went out. They were not particularly responsive, suggesting if we wanted the outage reported we could call the power company.
We stayed put as none of the suggestions were viable options and thankfully, after a night of crazy loud thunder, lightning, high winds and torrential rains, all ended well and power was restored within about 12 hours. We were glad of that, especially because the Owners didn't check if we needed anything or even if the power had been restored. The next morning, I actually called them to ask if they were ok during the severe storms (there were a fair number of downed trees & power lines in the area) and to let them know the power was back on.
Otherwise, aside from the (seeming) disinterest when we asked for some advice in the storm, this was a great place to rest and relax for the week. The neighbors were all very friendly and offered great ideas on places to visit and things to do in the area. We would definitely recommend it and hope to return in the future.
