Loved everything about my stay there, clean and nice property. The owners really invested into making it a great experience. A nice touch, I had a complimentary piece of chocolate waiting in my bedroom. The property itself is nice, clean, and well-located within a walking distance from the beach. Fireplace in the living room! Strongly recommend.
Pilot Rock cottage is the perfect spot to stay in Trinidad. We loved being walking distance to everything in town including a gorgeous beach with tide pools filled w starfish. The vibes at the cottage are amazing with a cozy wood burning stove to read by. Steve was responsive and helpful! Found our new place to stay when in town !
Well-supplied nice-sized cottage with hosts easily reachable and concerned about your welfare. Only difficulty was loading and unloading from the carport. Parking in front using the front door eliminated that problem. We really liked the wood stove and ample wood supply, but the electric heaters could heat adequately.
This was our second stay at the cottage and we just adore everything about it. It's quaint, very comfortable, and so relaxing. It's within walking distance to a variety of places. My husband and son visit the beach at least twice per day every single day. I love sitting on the porch in the morning drinking coffee while staring out at the bay. In the evenings my family loves sitting in the living room in front of the toasty warm wood burning stove. The yard is lovely too! Steve and Jen are fabulous hosts who have provided a wonderful cottage to stay at in Trinidad. We will be back!!!
Perfect locale to walk to the beach, the museum, library, art gallery, grocery and restaurants. Or just sit on the deck and enjoy the ocean view. Thanks Steve and Jen for sharing Pilot Rock Cottage with us.
We had a wonderful 5 night stay at the Pilot Rock Cottage. It is a peaceful quiet neighborhood with a beautiful (1/2 block away) view of the ocean. We loved having breakfast and seeing it. The cottage has everything you need, is clean, and the host is very responsive. Highly recommend!
You know how sometimes you don’t want to write about somewhere because then everyone will go there and you won’t be able to get reservations again? Yep, but I’m going to tell you anyway. This cottage was perfect. It is small and very cozy. We slept like happy rocks in the two beds (one regular bed and one futon). The kitchen was well furnished and we enjoyed a couple of meals there and also a couple of meals in nearby (and yummy) eateries. Stores were close by and a long walk or short drive to Trinidad Head trail and the beach. The front garden was charming and framed a lovely view of the bay. Sitting in the deck chairs with a nice drink and enjoying the view of the water was perfect. Thanks for adding a lovely memory to our road trip!
Our stay was so lovely, relaxing, and fun. Come to this well-appointed property and forget about your cares and responsibilities. We wanted for nothing...our friendly hosts provided all the comforts of home!
We and our kids (8 and 10) stayed for 3 nights while exploring the redwoods and loved it. The host Steve lives in the house behind the property and was very communicative pre-arrival, and nice to chat with when we showed up. The property is a nice little homey cottage with some charm, a nice front porch and ocean view, and great location. We appreciated the fact that it had all the little things like ziplock baggies and tin foil, it felt like staying at a friends place instead of a rental. We could walk to restaurants, the overlook, and down to the beach for sunset. Trinidad is a cool little town that has a grocery store and a few restaurants to check out.
Vores ophold var godt. Der var alt, hvad vi skulle bruge. Det var også rart med udsigten og Trinidad by er hyggelig og ligger utrolig flot. Kommunikation med vores vært var fremragende. Kan anbefale det.
One of the best VRBO experiences we’ve ever had! Our host were super friendly, but not in anyway obtrusive. The rental was a short walking distance from beautiful vistas, hiking trails, beaches, restaurants, parks, and stores. Would 100% recommend and book this place again.
Adorable cottage from the front and an oasis of relaxation delivered! The interior is cute, clean & laid out well for any stay (few days or weeks). Easy check-in/out & The accessibility to all things awesome in Trinidad was a pleasant surprise. We were walking distance to the beach, the store (great grocery spot!), wonderful shops, great food & lovely wine. We plan to come again and again!
Perfect for a couple. Quiet street, a block from ocean lookout, well thought out with everything you need. Great binder of local info. We enjoyed staying there.
Our stay was great, the cottage is very well stocked and close to the local beach and restaurants. Steve is friendly and hospitable; we will be back again. :)
We enjoyed staying at Pilot Rock Cottage! The cottage is clean, comfortable, and stocked with absolutely anything that you would need for your stay. A short walk down the street there is a breathtaking view of the ocean. There are also cute shops and restaurants within walking distance. It’s in a fabulous location for exploring Redwood National and State Parks which is where we spent our time. We had a great stay!
We love Pilot Rock Cottage. It is our home away from home in Trinidad. Always spotlessly clean, comfy, and cozy, and in the best location! Can even see the Bay from the living room couch/breakfast table. Plus, Steve and Jen are just the best ever hosts - lovely people!!

My wife Jen and I had always dreamed of being able to live in Trinidad and then it finally happened. We both work at Cal Poly Humboldt and love to get outside as much as possible in Humboldt County. We live on this property and know this community and have been in this part of California for 30 years. I am originally from Carlsbad, CA and Jen is from Junction City, CA. I came to Humboldt for the small town experience and Jen came to the university for big city experience.
Why they chose this property
If you want to be in the heart of a small fishing village and be able to walk to the store, to the beach, or drive to any number of attractions, this is a great home base. The neighborhood is quiet, the neighbors are quiet and friendly, and you can do it all, or do nothing at all, and feel refreshed from your time in Trinidad.
What makes this property unique
This cottage has something to offer all year round with great views of the bay from the front room, a cozy wood stove, very comfortable accommodations, a nice yard to hang out in, and a handful of restaurants, wineries, art galleries, and a museum/library. The house is small and really geared for a couple although it can handle up to two adults and two kids under 12 if you are already accustomed to living in close quarters.
