Classic NOLA Elegance
We came to Nola as a family for a Thanksgiving getaway and couldn’t have chosen a better place to stay. We want a place that felt like home but in New Orleans. The home is beautiful appointed and has a lovely balcony. The area has lots of cute place to grab a bite or do a little shopping. We got to explore the garden district with ease but also enjoyed going into the French quarter too. We had our car but took advantage of the trolly car too. I cooked a full Thanksgiving dinner and I had everything I needed. We can’t wait to come back.

Great Place. Great Location. Great Host. 3 Bedrooms ?
The property is great. There is plenty of space, the kitchen is modern, it's very quiet, the beds are comfortable, the outside deck is nice, and it's very well furnished and decorated. It's charming. The location is great too as there are many cool shops and places to eat in this area. And the host is fantastic: very helpful and responsive. As for the bedrooms, there's a nice master suite on the first floor. Bedrooms two and three are on the second floor; they are part of a larger room and are closed off by curtains (not walls). I wouldn't say it's a true 3 bedroom.

Lovely Home
My family enjoyed this beautiful home. It was stocked with everything we could have needed, including coffee, wine and some delicious sweet bread for breakfast. Juan's Flying Burrito downstairs is a must-try. We walked throughout the beautiful homes in the Garden District, and caught the street car to visit the the French quarter. What a lovely time.

Simply Awesome
We've been visiting New Orleans regularly for almost twenty years and this flat was the hands down best place we've stayed. It's been beautifully restored, the attention to detail was fantastic - great art, fully stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, great linens and the space is just open and flowing. The deck overlooking Magazine Street was well used for evening drinks, we cooked several meals in the well appointed kitchen... it was really a great stay. The A/C worked great, with separate settings for upstairs and downstairs. We were traveling with our two children (ages 5 and 3) as well as another family of four (children aged 15 and 17). The Master BR suite is nicely private, down a little hallway off the kitchen... our little kids loved the upstairs where we all had our own bed to use. The private bedroom upstairs was fine for the two teenagers - but that is the only slight drawback is that if you have eight people then six of them are upstairs and two on the main level where the Master BR is. But we're close with our friends and loved it. We were all very sad to leave, really loved it. Plus the location is awesome - cafes, restaurants, boutiques up and down Magazine Street but you can't hear a thing from inside. Can't wait to go back!

Absolutely stunning property, perfect spot for our stay in NOLA!
If you’re looking for a stunning property, look no further! A walk through the lavender door & you feel as though you’ve been transported to the inside pages of Architectural Digest. The perfect amount of old charm & character with antiques & art that will have you wandering around, just taking it all in room by room. The heavy, custom drapery, old wood floors, bamboo dining table, ceiling height, original art, wallpaper & antiques, you can’t help but fall in love with your surroundings. If you appreciate design like I do, this place is for you, just beautiful!!!! Our family traveled to New Orleans from Germantown, TN & we couldn’t have asked for a better spot. Not only was the property breathtaking, the location can’t be beat! We enjoyed walking to breakfast, lunch & dinner most days, ice cream a few doors down, coffee each morning at a different (walkable) spot & people watching from the balcony. We were even lucky enough to see a bride & groom celebrating their nuptials with a second line band, it was the perfect ending to our trip! If you like to shop, Magazine Street is the perfect place, the neighborhood is very walkable & we always felt safe. Communication from the owners, Tom & Melanie, was perfect & they were SO informative & helpful!! Thank you for your hospitality, we enjoyed the wine upon arrival & our boys were thrilled to have the donuts!! What a special spot you have, thank you again, Tom & Melanie!! As they say in New Orleans, laissez le bon temps rouler!

Amazing place!
Myself and 5 friends rented this place for the Final Four. First of all, its in a great spot--you can walk to restaurants and coffee shops or meander the Lower Garden District, but the French Quarter & Superdome were only a cheap, short Uber away. Secondly, the pictures of this place are good, and yet they still do not do it justice! It is stunning. The balcony was key for our group though. It was so nice to have a place where we could sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine--and although Magazine is a busy street, it was never loud. Highly recommend!

Maison De Violette—superb stay in a great location
This property is surely not to be missed! The space is absolutely beautiful and the pictures don’t do it justice. It comfortably slept a group of 8 girls for a bachelorette party with ample room for entertaining. We hired a sushi chef who did an impressive spread on the kitchen counter (ideal kitchen space for an event like that.) We also had the place during the st Patrick’s day parade and the balcony was such a hit, we caught so many throws! Overall I highly recommend this space. It is clean, spacious and has an incredible walking score to places on magazine st. Flawless check in and check out. Easy nearby free street parking on side streets. I met Melanie as I was moving in and she was so kind and accommodating and genuinely wanted to make sure we would have a great stay. Hospitality at its finest! I’ll certainly be recommending this space to to people for future events. Thanks for everything, Tom and Melanie!

Luxury apartment in Great location
Tom and Melanie are gracious hosts who have anticipated your every need in this “as advertised” luxury apartment that is kid friendly too. We brought 4 10 year olds and they loved the open space on the 3rd floor complete w private areas and full bath. I loved the huge well-stocked kitchen with beautiful views of the nearby church steeple. And we all enjoyed the living room and outdoor balcony overlooking Magazine Street. I felt as if we were living a different life, which is exactly what we needed in these COVID times! Lots of great food and coffee within steps of the apt in an area that felt safe. I will never forget the donuts from District Donuts! Thank you Tom and Melanie! We left wondering how soon we could return!

We could not have been more pleased with our vacation rental. The property was exquisitely furnished and designed. The location was perfect with easy access to the French quarter and restaurants and shopping on the unique stretch of magazine street. Tom was a wonderful host, constantly checking on us to make sure that we were pleased with our stay . Absolutely STUNNING!!!!
This place was absolutely stunning and couldn't have been any better for our stay-I didn't want to leave lol. The pictures don't do it justice, it is breathtaking. The location is fantastic. Being a group of girls safety comes first and we hit the jackpot. It was a nice neighborhood to explore and was conveniently located near everything (shops, restaurants, bars). The property is well stocked with coffee, plates, cups, towels, bedding, etc. The check-in process was simple and Melanie was so dang sweet. Upon our arrival, she checked in to make sure everything was okay and dropped off a fan for the upstairs. We did have some issues with the wifi but we all had data on our phone, so it wasn't anything major. Melanie even offered to check it out, but honestly wasn't a problem. We definitely will be coming back and thank you for everything!

Wonderful weekend in NOLA!
This property is absolutely beautiful and perfect for our Girls weekend in New Orleans! Perfect location on Magazine street and easy to get to around the city. The owners are extremely accommodating and hospitable. When we checked in Melanie took us on a tour of the property and gave us the history of the space. She also left us a gorgeous bottle of wine and pastries to kick off our weekend. I would absolutely recommend staying here on your next trip to NOLA!

Magazine street retreat!
We came for Jazzfest weekend and could not have been more impressed and amazed with our oasis. We arrived and a freshly baked cake awaited us- we dove in on the outside terrace overlooking magazine (coolest exit to the terrrace). The high ceilings and expanse of the place can’t be indicated on the pictures. It was incredibly clean, the beds were very comfortable and everything about it spoke of “home”.

Beautiful property in a great location
This is a beautiful property in a very convenient location for exploring Magazine Street and the Garden District but it is also a short Uber ride from the CBD and the French Quarter. It is very roomy for a family of 5 to stay in. The owners are extremely accommodating and respond very promptly to any request.

Hidden Gem in the Lower Garden District
We spent 5 nights at this lovely place over Thanksgiving weekend. We were so pleased to arrive and discover such a welcoming and comfortable space. The scale of the living areas are not only stunning, they also feature an easy flow - a great area for family and friends to gather. The living room spills out onto a private and spacious patio, overlooking the bustling shopping area on Magazine Street. The dining room easily accommodates eight for dinner while the kitchen is perfect for multiple cooks and helpers. Kitchen was well-stocked. We had a little trouble with the oven so recommend getting proper instructions prior to using. The master bedroom/bath is also on this floor but very private. The extra sleeping areas are up one floor and easily accommodate 5 - 7 people with two queen beds and 3 twin daybeds. Lots of room for air mattresses, if needed. The owners were very responsive to any questions that we had and stopped by to meet us before we left on Sunday. Prior to our arrival, they were interested in helping us make our plans and left a lovely cake and bottle of wine to greet us! We highly recommend this spot - a relaxing and enjoyable way to visit New Orleans! Even better, it offers the perfect spot for entertaining local friends and family!

The best home any one could possibly rent
This rental was without a doubt the nicest place I have ever rented from VRBO. The owners truly know how to accommodate their guests. Every detail, soap, towels, wine, bread, cleanliness, well appointed kitchen was focused on. It was better than staying in a 4 star Hotel.

Beautiful property — really MADE our weekend in New Orleans!
This property is absolutely wonderful. My friends and I couldn't get over how beautiful and well-appointed the space is, and the location is absolutely ideal. It was such a lovely and tranquil spot to come back home to after being out and about in New Orleans — the big open kitchen and sunny patio in particular were some of our favorite places to collect and enjoy each other's company. Every detail of the place felt personal and Melanie was incredibly responsive and helpful pre- and post-trip. I just can't stress enough how integral having this property as home base was to making this girls weekend a memorable and exciting experience. We were truly blown away!

Amazing apartment and Great Location
The pictures do not do this place justice . It’s beautifully restored. The location on Magazine is perfect. You can walk to so many restaurants and shops. We spent much time watching over Magazine from the balcony. Melanie was super easy to work with and very responsive to questions and had great food and drink recommendations. The kids loved the loft area! The whole apartment is very spacious. We will stay here again!

Perfect in every sense!
Tom and Melanie's apartment is perfect in every sense. The home is beautifully decorated and very well appointed. The place is very spacious with high ceilings and large windows. The beds were extremely comfortable with nice linens. The bathrooms were great and we loved the balcony. We hosted Thanksgiving at the house and it was the perfect place to cook and entertain family. The location can't be beat. There are a number of great restaurants and fun shops within walking distance. We love Magazine Street. Tom and Melanie were the most gracious hosts I've ever dealt with. They went above and beyond to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. I will definitely come back to this home.

About the host

Hosted by Melanie Fischmann

Host profile image
I'm an Interior Designer (follow me on Insta - @CaravanFinds)! For several years I had a retail shop across the street from this property featuring Mid Century Modern art, furniture and furnishings. We fell in love with this property and neighborhood, and the more time we spend here that love just continues to grow. I own the property together with my husband, brother and sister-in-law, and we've all shared in the labor of love that has been its restoration. The style you will notice when you stay here, I think, represents New Orleans quite well. It is the blending of new and old, near and far, that makes this city so special. In addition to decorating and styling homes, I love to cook, host, and travel with my family and friends. And I'm enjoying learning Mahjong!

Why they chose this property

After several years operating a shop on this block of Magazine Street, I was keenly aware of how it draws in the community in ways other blocks don't. Ours is often the block where visitors begin their exploration of Magazine Street, and it's one of the last convenient blocks for locals to frequent before getting caught up in downtown traffic. There is always something interesting going on here, and I find myself having interesting and unexpected conversations all the time. So when the opportunity to buy a building on this block came about, I put a family partnership together to pursue it (that is my brother and his wife in the picture with my husband and me, and we own the property together). The name Maison De Violette pays tribute to my grandmother Violet - a woman of amazing style and personality, just like her home city of New Orleans.

What makes this property unique

Our side of the street on this block of Magazine was originally built in the late 1840s as overflow convent housing by the magnificent St. Alphonsus Church, which stands behind us. The church had the foresight to create retail shops on the ground floor, and apartments above. Our building was originally a bakery, and the original oven, tile floors, pressed tin ceilings and other features have all been preserved lovingly in our ground floor retail space, home to RHINO Galleries (a must-visit stop on any New Orleans shopping trip!). We love the history here. It's alive and celebrated, and it makes this a very unique location among the many special neighborhoods of New Orleans.
