About this property

" The Eastham Cape House"

The house is on a Cul de sac and sits on a slight knoll with a large front yard dominated by shrubbery. The rear of the property is your usual sandy mixture Cape lawn - ideal for playing or simply lying out in the shade of the many locust trees, which also appear to be a sanctuary for birds and other wildlife.
We are within easy reach of Fort Hill, a popular spot for an ocean sunrise and Rock Harbour for its famous sunsets. The bike trail, which meanders through much of the Cape, can be accessed .07 miles from the house and it will take you right through to Coast Guard Beach and all the way to Marconi Beach or, in the opposite direction, to Orleans, Brewster and Dennis - a pleasurable and safe way of travel. We have 2 first class bikes there for you to use but you need to bring your own helmets.
The house is situated so that alternate roads can be used to avoid the highly traveled Route 6.

Rental period: The calendar may read otherwise but the rental periods are normally Saturday to Saturday unless other arrangements have been made. It will be priced accordingly. Check-in time is 3.00pm and check-out time is 12:00 noon. The time is crucial for the cleaners. It's so hard to find reliable people who maintain the highest standards. So please abide by the check- out time.
I'm sorry to say pets will have to have other arrangements made for them. There are various kennels that can make your animals comfortable and are within easy reach. Other guests must and should be considered.
We're also sorry to say that there is no smoking inside. There is an ashtray on the deck for your use, outside only. Hopefully, you can understand our position, thanks.
Linen and towels are not available so you'll have to bring your own. However, if need be linen and towels can be ordered and delivered through Cape Cod linen 800-559--5105

We started to recycle a few years ago year to do our share. It went very well and we set the cellar up with everything you need to sort things out. You just sort and stack and we take everything out in the fall. Your childrens' grandchildren will thank you! No linen or towels are provided.

The Cape can be even more charming in the late summer and early fall, as most of the tourists have left. This is an ideal time to experience the true beauty of what Cape Cod really has to offer.

For those few who want to take the time to drive down and view the house, we encourage you to do so. Arrangements can be made for you. Just let me know. It is always good to actually see firsthand the house you're going to rent. So many people don't and as a result, are disappointed.
Choosing a holiday house doesn't have to be a hassle. Just look for good value. It pays off in spades
The necessity for a security deposit has been done away with. The basis of trust between both parties has been initiated in its stead.
We offer a check-out time of 12:00 noon, which will give you plenty of time to pack up and depart.
It's nice to be a few steps from the ocean but unfortunately not every house is. There are advantages to being ten minutes away. One is to see the children get to a fever pitch on the ride to the beach and I'm sure you can guess the other!

Good location , nice house

We had a lovely stay in this 2 bathroom 3 bedroom house. A little trouble checking in but owner was responsive and helpful when contacted. We liked the closeness to coast guard beach and use of washing machine and dryer. The house was well appointed and even had beach chairs and beach towels..

Cape Cod mid-August stay

Wonderful landing spot for exploring the Cape Cod National Seashore. House is lovely with a private backyard and located on a quiet cul-de-sac. Bike path is nearby; short ride to town beaches. House has everything and hosts were a pleasure to communicate with.

Perfect location

The house suited our annual friend vacation needs perfectly. Great location to everything mid to outer Cape. We enjoyed easy access to the bike trails. Jay is very communicative. Very peaceful yard, where we saw bunnies and deer while the birds were chirping.

Perfect Cape Get away

This property is everything we wanted in a cape get away. The layout was good for a family and the location was excellent with easy access to both the bay and Atlantic side. We love the beaches on this side of the cape and really enjoyed our time. An unexpected bonus was the very nice backyard and deck that we very much enjoyed. The kitchen was well stocked and the provided bikes were very helpful in getting around. The hosts were very responsive and accommodating. The one very minor downside is that they do not provide sheets and towels, but they told us about this way in advanced and offered options for linen delivery.

A Home on the Cape

This property is a solid, clean, quiet and reasonably conveniently located. The owner provided ample information and communications with us and some of his hints we very helpful. Moreso had this not been our collective 8th or so visit to Cape Cod. I suspect we'll be looking for a place like this next year when summer is here.

We wanted for nothing and hated to leave. Selfishly we’re reluctant to report how much we loved the house and its location for fear of competition to book it.

For us, this is a perfect rental.

Conveniently located in a quiet suburb of Orleans, the house is very clean and comfortable, fit for a stay any time of the year with A/C and heating. It is a pleasure to share it with a neighborhood rabbit and the birds in the pleasant backyard. Once here you don’t want to leave.

Comfort, Peace and Beauty

Jay and Helga made sure that all questions were answered and all needs were met. Their home is in a lovely, quiet neighborhood, brief drives to the best of mid- to upper Cape jaunts. Tons of great restaurants, store, hikes, beaches - not to mention nearby rail trail - made this one of our favorite vacations. Even when the weather was dreadful, staying in to read, cook, lounge about their comfy place made for some of the best reflections about our stay. The master bedroom was the perfect place to secret away when needing a brief hiatus from (beloved) company. Three weeks went by in the blink of an eye. Never stayed in Eastham before, but wouldn't hesitate to come back to make more wonderful memories.

Cozy getaway

We thoroughly enjoyed the long Columbus Day weekend in the house. This town is a great launching point to go to Chatham, Wellfleet, and Orleans. The house that everything we needed. Great kitchen to cook up everything we picked up at the Orleans farmers market and seafood market. Fires in the fireplace kept us cozy at night. We loved the master bedroom upstairs with its own bathroom. We spent much time sitting in the Adirondack chairs in the backyard. And as always we love the outdoor shower! The owners gave us great tips on beaches and we visited them all. Overall a wonderful trip!

That Old Cape Magic

When we visit the Cape, we come to ride our bikes and eat good seafood. Although we always look for a nice, affordable place, where we stay is less important to us than what we do. That said, this place added immeasurably to the enjoyment of our visit. Jay’s home in Eastham is perfectly located, close to the rail trail and excellent restaurants. The yard is large and pleasant to look at and relax in, either on the deck or two Adirondack chairs out on the lawn. The inside is spacious and clean, with tasteful furnishings and a well-supplied kitchen. We felt comfortable from the moment we first walked in the door. That Jay is proud of and cares deeply about the place is clear from the way he takes care of it, and from the pains he takes, including a mandatory phone conversation before occupancy, to make sure he gets renters who will appreciate and respect it. He then communicated via email, before, during and after our stay, to make sure everything was OK and that we enjoyed ourselves. Everything was, and we sure did.

Great Location!

Very charming and comfortable home - nicer than the pictures suggest. We loved the very well stocked kitchen since we are all cooks in my family! Upstairs master suite with bath has lovely updates. All the beds were comfortable. We usually stay in North Eastham near Wellfleet and were a bit concerned about this location, but as it turned out it was so convenient to be near the Orleans Stop & Shop (which I never knew existed!) and to discover Nauset Bay, lower parts of the bike path, and beautiful First Encounter Beach. The house is very private and quiet but close to everything. We would definitely return! Thank you, Jay, for being so attentive to all our needs.

Excellent Stay

We had such a wonderful week at this lovely house. The property was comfortable and impeccably clean. We loved hanging out in the backyard after a fun day at the beach. It was a great place to hang out ( beautiful and most importantly quiet)! The beach was a short bike ride or drive away and after our week we were very sad to leave. We would rent again in a heartbeat! -Jen and Family

The Perfect Cape House!

After spending our vacations the last few summers in Chatham and Brewster, I am so glad my family was looking for something closer to the National Seashore; because it led us to this house! Throughout the entire booking/pre-visit time, Jay and Helga were extremely informative and attentive. All questions were answered in a timely manner and a great deal of pertinent information was shared without even having to ask. The house itself (and it's location) is exactly what we have been looking for. Close to everything we want to do (oceanside and bayside beaches, shopping, restaurants and seafood stores, yoga in Chatham, golf in Harwich, etc.) and the house is equipped with so many useful things that other homes have not had (e.g. lots of hooks and towel bars in the bathrooms, wastebaskets in each bedroom, plenty of plates/glasses/silverware, etc.). This truly felt like a home away from home and we are hoping it is available when we visit again next summer. We highly recommend!

Beautiful

Lovely house with a spacious and beautiful yard, close to Rte 6 but set back from it so you can't hear traffic. The house is a few minutes away from the CCRT, which is accessible by bike down a quiet back road. Herring Pond is just off the bike trail via Crosby Village Rd. Eastham is very special and we loved it here.

About the host

Host profile image
Growing up, and spending Summer vacations on the Cape made it so natural to purchase the house there. We look forward to opening the house in May and regret the task of closing it in November. We find it surprising that so many families opt for the high season in the summer while the off season offers people a chance to enjoy the tranquility and solitude of an uninterrupted beach stroll and the pleasures of autumn.

I grew up near Boston, went to college there, and upon earning my degree I found myself reporting to the Boston Army Base for induction. Yes, America used to draft - not a pleasant time to come of age. Luckily I got orders for Europe when many of my countrymen weren't as fortunate.
Little did I know how it would change my life forever. Having been taken in by the country I found myself being drawn back a few years later. It was in Heidelberg, the medieval home of Germany's oldest university, and the setting for the Student Prince is where I met my wife. The memories of our first few years play out like a fairy tale. A more romantic setting could not be imagined. It would be hard not to be taken in by its Old World charm. Even today, many years later, we still think fondly of our younger days there.
Wanting to keep our ties with Boston we bought the cape house for it was practical at the time and the perfect house for us. Our plan was to change just about everything over the upcoming years and that was accomplished a while ago. The things remaining from the early days are a classic Cape couch from the forties and a dining room set that fits in beautifully. In renovating the bathrooms we elliminated the bath tubs to avoid any future slips. As it turned out it was the right house then and is an even better one now.
We hope families driving a 150 miles enjoy our house as much as we do traveling 3500.

Why they chose this property

Since it's the dream of every youngster from Boston to one day own a home on Cape Cod it came naturally to seek out one there.
This was the third house we looked at and we knew from the get- go it was the one. Sitting up on the knoll with a huge expanse of land, twice as much as any other house on the street (only eight), the cathedral ceiling opening up the whole downstairs - it just seemed right.
We love working in the garden in the spring, whipping everything into shape. It seems with each passing year it takes longer and longer. What used to take three days now takes six (I'm down to half days) but it is still fun.If it weren't for Helga I'd still be at it when the first guests arrived.

There aren't many places like Cape Cod in the fall. It's breath taking. We would never think of coming in the high season. We'll leave that to families who can not come at any other time and who can brave the crowds and everything that goes with it. My only regret about the house is that we didn't buy it fifteen years earlier.

What makes this property unique

There is much to be said of the Lower Cape. To experience it, it will forever draw you back. It's almost like having all of the wonders of nature to yourself no matter how many others you're sharing it with.
.As far as the house goes there is nothing special or unique about it. It's like thousands of other Cape houses built in the late Eighties, except this one belongs to us. The house and what's in it reflect our taste and our lifestyle and we hope that our visitors will feel as comfortable there as we do.
It's too bad families today can't find the time to have the experience of that special day of hunting for their perfect summer house. If I had to choose my favorite childhood memory that would top the list, and I thank my parents for making those summers memorable. Maybe we can provide a few for your family.
