Lodge house in beautiful grounds with breathtaking sea views
The lodge is sited in one of the loveliest areas in England - a designated area of outstanding natural beauty with the freshwater lagoon of Slapton Ley at it's heart.
The lodge has it's own garden within extensive grounds which overlook the long crescent stretch of Slapton Sands and the craggy headland that curves around to Start Point lighthouse.
Refurbished in a contemporary style the lodge has wonderful sea views and sits above the shingle beach at Strete Gate - just 10 minutes walk away. The award winning Blackpool Sands is a couple of miles away.
Situated at the mouth of the River Dart is the historic naval port of Dartmouth with it's wealth of galleries, shops and cafes and restaurants.
Dartmouth is known for it's narrow streets, overhanging medieval houses and old quays, with the historic Mayflower having set sail for the New World America from Bayards Cove.
A boat trip up river will take you to Agatha Christie's house "Greenways" and "Coleton Fishacre" once the home of the D'Oyly Carte family is at Kingswear.
Further afield the beautiful beaches of Bantham (our local surfing beach) Bigbury and South Milton as well as Salcombe and Hope Cove are all within striking distance.

What a super summer weeks stay we had in this cottage in Strete. The location is fabulous, overlooking Slapton sands and short drives to both Dartmouth and Salcombe. Lovely local pubs and eateries nearby. The lodge is really well equipped, comfortable and host Deb was very helpful. Very likely to return here.
The cottage was immaculate with everything you could need. A lovely garden overlooking the sea. The owner is very kind and helpful. The Kings Arms in Strete has super food and views. The coastal walks are stunning.Dartmouth is worth visiting. Lots of boat trips on the river Dart. We visited Greenways Agatha Christie’s house by ferry- wonderful.Blackpool Sands nearby has a beautiful beach.
Our stay at the Lodge was fantastic with everything as described on the website. The local area and beaches were beautiful and Dartmouth is a great place to visit with lots to do on and around the river Dart.
Our only reservation was about the narrow roads, which are a tight squeeze at times with some of the larger cars on our roads currently.
Met with the owner briefly who was very nice and extremely friendly.
Would thoroughly recommend.
We had a super week at this very roomy, clean, comfortable lodge. Very private and super views. Lovely area. Beautiful weather too. So couldn't be better.
The Lodge was a very clean and comfortable place to stay. The arrangements could not have been simpler and communication was excellent. The location of the property was fantastic and the views stunning
Happy to use your services again
Everything with this property is perfection. The grounds are stunning the lodge is amazing. Its all on a slope and there are 4 to 5 steps up to the property from where you park but the property itself is amazing and the views my husband sat and watched the world go by. I dealt with debbie the owner who was informative helpful and answered my queries immediately
An excellent choice for a relaxing "get away from it all"
The property has been extremely well decorated and equipped with everything one would ned to a week's stay.
It is completely quiet and very near Slapton Sands , either a three minute drive or a 15 minute walk and most of the walk not on a road, is you follow the owners guidance.
The only awkward part was the narrow roads in Devon, one does get used to them but you need to double journey times in Devon.
Our thanks to Deb and Ian for thier kind hospitality.
Lovely property with amazing view and a garden to enjoy it from. Everything was thought of, even little treats, which made this stay feel very special. The property is very spacious, modern, comfortable, bright and super clean. The beds are amazing. The location is fab although we preferred Strete Gate Beach, right on the doorstep, to the other beaches around. We had lovely weather which is always a bonus in UK. And we saw a seal just a few yards off the beach! Magical. We will return hopefully.
It would be true to say we were very impressed with the Lodge upon our arrival. Almost without exception everything you needed was provided throughout the property and not only that but, for us, the views were amazing.
Despite the weather not always being kind we found it to be a very peaceful place to return to each day which is what you want from a holiday. At the end of our stay we both felt very rested and very reluctant to leave this superb location.
Would we return to the Lodge? The answer to that is a definite yes and offer our thanks to our hosts
The cottage is excellent. It is clean and modern with very good beds, two showers and a bath and plenty of pots and pans to use on the modern cooker. The Nespresso machine was particularly welcome. We met Deb, the owner, one time while walking back from the beach, and she was very friendly and helpful.
The location is superb with wonderful views of the beach and is in easy reach of lots of interesting places, all of which you will find in the information provided. Totnes and Dartmouth are both very good for walking around and shopping. We would particularly recommend Agatha Christie's house, Greenway (accessed by ferry from Dartmouth) and Coleton Fishacre, the home of the D'Oyly Cartes.
The cottage is very well presented and the views across the garden to the beach and beyond are outstanding. The cottage is a great place to stay with a lovely interior and if you are the active type there is covered space at the rear for your roof box and bike racks etc. There is also an outside tap so you can wash bikes/paddle boards/wet suites etc. The owners are very responsive and want to make your stay a great one. The location is fantastic and there are plenty of places to explore with some amazing beaches and coves along with beautiful villages and towns if you're thing is the likes of paddle boarding, cycling, walking ,hiking you will not be disappointed, the costal path is literally on your doorstep and the cycling is fantastic (but remember to pack your hill legs-you'll need them and maybe a new set of pads in your brakes 😃) . Over all a great place in a fantastic location that will simply make you want to come back for more.

Wonderful setting, lovely views
Spent an enjoyable week in late September exploring the South Hams district. Cottage was in an excellent location close to facilities and attractions in Dartmouth and the Slapton Sands area. Cottage is well equipped and very spacious for us as a couple. We felt it would have been polite of the owners to ask us when it would be convenient to do a job in the cottage, rather than just letting themselves in whilst we were not there. Also the cleaners arrived at exactly 10 a.m. on the day of departure and virtually pushed past us as we were trying to get our last bags into the car and check that we had left nothing. These incidents unfortunately slightly spoiled an otherwise enjoyable stay.
Ian and Deb live in the main house down the drive from the lodge and were very helpful. Booking was simple, hosts were quick to respond. The property is clean, spacious, well equipped, in a very quiet location, just a 2 minute drive to Strete Gate beach car park. Blackpool Sands beach has a cafe but is more expensive to park. This is a good location for exploring South Devon. Local pubs all good. Supermarkets and fuel can be found just outside Dartmouth. We recommend this property and would certainly go back again.
A very well appointed holiday property, everything you could want for, for a peaceful retreat. Owner very welcoming and helpful.
We would not hesitate to recommend this holiday property to others and will hopefully look to return ourselves someday in the future.
We had a great mini break with the family. A really lovely base to explore and then come back to a lovely fire. The spacious open plan living dining area was great for the kids to spread out and unwind. We loved watching sunrise and sunset over the sea. A little slice of luxury.
We enjoyed our week at the lodge very much. A very comfortable bed, a powerful hot shower, lovely views set within a beautiful location. Immaculately clean and kitted out with everything you need for a relaxing stay.
This is a great property within sight and sound of Slapton Keys beach.
Clean, uncluttered and comfortable with a well resourced kitchen, 2 bathrooms and lovely surrounding garden.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Coleridge Lodge, which is located directly above the east end of Slapton Sands, about 5 miles from Dartmouth.
The lodge was very well presented, spotlessly clean and had all of the facilities we required (including good WiFi coverage).
Also, the owner provided all necessary information in advance and quickly responded when we had any queries at all.
We will certainly stay there again in the future.
Delightful gate lodge with stunning views. Spacious and fabulous attention to detail. Minimalist decor with White Company bed linen. Cannot wait to return.
