Amazing!
A great place to stay! Many places to spread out - a garden, French balcony, coffee balcony, or anywhere in the house. It also provided bikes, beach cushions, cooler, and more to enjoy your stay
Fantastic property in a great location to the harbour town with plenty of shops from food, bakeries, bars and restaurants serving local specialities.
The apartment was very spacious and a sea view from the balcony.
The facilities were more than adequate and well equipped and had the bonus of the separate ground floor apartment.
A great place to stay.
Serene and quiet neighbourhood, 5 minutes from every important stop in Jelsa.
Parking is a challenge in Jelsa. Robert is amazing host, great attention to detail, house is well equipped with everything required for a proper family stay. We’ll come again.
Really great place to stay equipped with all that you need (minus a pool;) for a great summer holiday. If you're into African art/decor, then you're in for a treat:) The property is located in a superb location - centre of village - that allows you to explore the town, shops, restaurants + Jelsa is an ideal location for travelling to the rest of the island (something that we we did a lot off). We had a hired car with us at all times and could not park very close to the property, however if you dont mind a short 5min walk then it should not be a big problem. We hired the entire villa which also comes with a self-contained studio downstairs that has a separate entrance - perfect for teens/jungesters who'd like to stay late and come home without distrurbing anyone else. The owner is supe attentative and very helpful. I'll certainly would go back and would highly recommend it.
A good place to chill out and a home base to discover the island
Villa Fjaka is located in the middle of the old part of Jelsa. The owner restored the whole building which has now all modern equipment but the ambience of a traditional stone house. The outfit is somehow a bit ethno style what we liked and what creates an inspiring atmosphere. Everything was perfectly clean and well prepared when we arrived. The communication with the owner (and some of his neighbours and friends) was very friendly. – All in all for us Villa Fjaka was an ideal home base to discover the whole island. We had a wonderful 14-days-stay there with our two boys (18 years old), who occupied the basement flat (with a separate entrance). The inside guide (among a lot of other guide books and travel information) written by Paul Bradbury helped a lot (although it is more than 10 years old). If the internet access in the house does not work perfectly (and you need one) go to Café Splendid on the main place just three minutes away. All-out recommendation!
Jelsa, in my opinion, is the best place to stay on Hvar. Very friendly, relaxed with nice restaurants. Robert’s place is tucked away in the old town and has been renovated to a high standard. Quaint, but perfectly comfortable. As well as the house itself, there is an outside terrace and garden so you can sit outside. Robert was very helpful and easy to deal with. I thoroughly recommend this rental.
We had a fantastic stay in Jelsa and appreciated the charm, character and location of Villa Fjaka. Well located a few minutes walk from the centre of Jelsa and it's restaurants and shops, Villa Fjaka is an oasis of calm. We enjoyed the fact that it felt like someone's home rather than a generic holiday apartment; the terrace and garden provide further spaces to enjoy. However, while the downstairs apartment was fine for our teenage daughters to sleep in, the room is quite dark and does not really provide a comfortable living space. Finally, we found the best areas for swimming on the opposite side of the harbour and further around the headland, which are still only a 7-10 minute walk from the house.

Wonderful holiday
We had a really great holiday at Villa Fjaka. Accomodation was perfect for our family, with our adult daughters sleeping in the ground floor room.
Villa was comfortable, quirky and very well equipped. It is just a few minutes from the harbour, restaurants and shops and being sited in a residential area was a real plus as it was peaceful. We spent many hours on the sun terrace as a contrast to sunbathing on the variety of locations along the coast where we swam in the lovely warm sea.
We ate very well in several of the restaurants in the harbour, which is a charming, family-friendly area for after-dinner strolling and ice-creams.
We enjoyed exploring the island by boat and open-topped beetle and we thoroughly recommend a holiday in Villa Fjaka in beautiful Jelsa.

Tolles Haus, toller Ort
Gut ausgestattetes Ferienhaus, toll eingerichtet, tolle Terasse, nette Nachbarn,
mitten in schönem Örtchen, Strände fußläufig. Unterer Teil ist wie eine Einliegerwohnung mit separatem Eingang.

Beautifully presented, well located and comfortable.
We really enjoyed our stay here. We ended up using the top part of the property only, which meant using the sofa bed, but that was fine. The terrace is lovely, and we appreciated the homely touches (like a well equipped kitchen!) that made it easy to stay there. The walk down the lanes to the harbour was a pleasure too. Jelsa is a lovely place.

Perfect home for perfect holiday
We have had a month in Croatia and stayed 1 week in Jelsa, this was by far our favourite accomodation.Everything has been thought of, all the local info about the area, its great to have all the condiments for cooking, as well as the nightlights when your in unfamiliar surroundings. Our kids had been backpacking for weeks so enjoyed having some space downstairs to call their own. We would stroll down to get our morning pastries and then spent a lot of time on the balcony soaking up the surroundings and enjoying the clear skies and warm weather.
We loved getting our fresh vegetables and figs from a small doorway just down the road, the fresh figs yum. We did the coastal walk to Vrboska (it is 5km) with lots of beautiful areas to stop and swim along the way. This is a beautiful village that has an amazing Wine Festival the last weekend of August, which we were lucky enough to arrive in the midst of, Saturday evening. The street food was incredible, water polo games, music and finished with an amazing fire works display. We would definitely recommend staying here to our friends and hope we can return one day.

a beautiful apartment in a beautiful town. perfect for a family.
such a beautiful and characterful apartment... so well laid out... and the wifi and separate apartment was a treat for teenagers... you can't beat the roof terrace though. the views day and night are so lovely. Thank you Robert for all the care you took to welcome us and keep us comfortable... we had everything we could wish for. There is a good food scene emerging on the shore (Usmokve and me and mrs jones) and the sea swimming off mina beach (just a stroll away) is perfect for all ages and has shade and sun! We absolutely recommend Jelsa (better than Hvar town ) for sun, sea, peace and good food and the villa for comfort, peace and charm. (we miss it!)

Gorgeous house, lovely place
We stayed for two weeks in August at Villa Fjaka. The house is lovely, in the town but quiet and peaceful, with a beautiful terrace. It has everything you could possibly need - beach equipment, bikes, books, and (important for me) a cafetiere! Jelsa is really lovely, a beautiful harbour, loads of restaurants, cafes and bars, lots of swimming spots to choose from. It is easy to manage without a car - we used the bus, taxi boat, bikes, and rented a boat for a day to get around. There are lots of supermarkets and some market stalls and lovely bakeries to do your shopping. Having visited other places on the island - Hvar Town, Stari Grad, Vrboska - I would say Jelsa is easily the nicest place to stay. Robert was very helpful in terms of bookings and information. Hvar is very easy to reach from the UK, with a really convenient early morning catameran leaving Jelsa directly to Split. I can't fault this place at all, would highly recommend! (The house is divided into two with a self-contained studio downstairs, this worked well for us with two teenagers).

Great location, comfortable & relaxing
So many holiday villas are poorly equipped and soulless - Villa Fjaka is an antidote to this, clearly a place much loved by the attentive owners, well equipped and easy to live in. We loved the terrace with views to the harbour, and the walled garden for evening meals. Jelsa is a magical place which we hope to return to one day! Much recommended

Beautiful
The villa is beautiful. Clean and well maintained but still very traditional. it was great to have the balcony outside to sit in the morning sun. We had a superb master suite and the children slept in their own room underneath, Now - usually I would stress about this but the area is so friendly, the neighbours were lovely and it was such a safe environment that I was more than happy. It is literally a 5 minute stroll the the harbour and main square where we could sit and watch the world go by and the boats come in! The kids found the local beach (again, very safe) and spent many happy hours there. We took a boat trip from the harbour to other islands and were centrally based to explore the rest of the island. LOTs of places to eat - great food and very reasonably priced. The holiday from booking to arrival was well organised and very stress free - definitely recommend this villa for its charm and location

A very special holiday
Thank you so much for letting us stay in your wonderful house. We had a really, really good time and loved the island. It was particularly nice for me to get to know Jelsa - my full name is Hannah Jelsa Marshallsay because I was conceived there in the 70s - my parents thought it was romantic to give me Jelsa as my middle name. I had always disliked it as it didn't mean anything to me, but am now feeling more of an affinity with it - we should have visited years ago!
About the host
Hosted by Robert De Young
American who has lived in Norway for the past 30 years. Love to travel. I'm a restaurateur and sommelier living in Oslo and a big time foodie. Married to bookish Norwegian. We have three children.
Why they chose this property
Bought the villa as a ruin fourteen years ago and had it totally restored. Jelsa is a relaxed Dalmatian town reminiscent of the way things used to be on the Adriatic. We enjoy our house and the town of Jelsa so much and would like to share the experience with you. The Croats have a word for the palpable lethargy that is often felt in the island towns — fjaka, described by locals as “the sweetness of doing nothing”
What makes this property unique
We enjoy being two minutes from the main square. It's like a big living room for us, to sit in the cafes enjoying an espresso or a cold drink, people-watch and take in the life of the town. Jelsa is perfectly situated for vacationers who love to swim, fish, hike and bicycle. It also has car rental and boat rentals. Easy access to nearby larger towns of Stari Grad and Hvar town, with many charming villages along the way.
